HOW WE WORK Term 1 - Teaching (new steps taught) Term 2 & 3 - Teaching the concert routines Term 4 - Concert is held in week 2 & the rest of the term is teaching. Students should complete the whole term after the concert if they intend returning the following year, as this is when a lot of new teaching is done. Management will decide when your child will advance to the next class - this is not automatic if they have not learnt the required steps (especially in tap). Acro - from 3 years Lyrical - from age 9 years Hip Hop – from 9 years Tap & Jazz - from 3 years • No experience required - we welcome beginner students as well as students who have had previous tuition. • Terms run the same as school terms, and we break during school holidays. • Classes are held on public holidays during the school term unless otherwise notified by management. • All children are to be dropped off at the door – no parents are to sit inside to watch as this is very distracting for the students – particularly the little ones. • We often get requests for fun classes but children are required to do structured classes if they enrol – this is still fun for them! • Remember your child is learning to dance so there is a certain level of discipline required and their homework is to practice each day please. • Please remember when organising swimming lessons or winter sports to try and book a different time to your dance class. 2
EXPLANATION OF CLASSES AND LEVELS OF ABILITY Age is a guide for any class – all classes have a range of ages. BABIES – this class covers a little bit of everything for the little ones: jazz, tap, ballet and acro. BEGINNER – this is for suitable for 3 - 6 year old beginners. They will stay in this class until they achieve a certain level of tap steps before they move into the next level. JUNIOR – this is for children who are aged between 6 - 10 years of age. When they are at a more advanced level they will move to Intermediate level. Teacher will decide this move. INTERMEDIATE – this is for students who are aged between 11 - 13 years of age. Students need to have attained a high level of tap steps. If they start at this level they may find it a struggle. It is recommended they start at junior level and then will be assessed. SUB SENIOR – this is an extension of the Intermediate class for older students, 13 years and older. A certain level of tap experience is required. ACRO – minimum age is 3 years. Beginner Acro is for beginners with little or no experience. The teacher will decide promotion to the next level. There are minimum levels for acro grading (refer to website). Acro students are required to do a jazz or ballet class as acro requires dance moves as well as tricks. BALLET – this is for students who are over 11 years of age. JUNIOR LYRICAL – little or no experience necessary. This is for children aged between 6 – 10 years. LYRICAL/CONTEMPORARY – this is for children who are over 11 years of age. HIP HOP – Minimum age is 6 years Beginner Hip Hop, for those with little or no experience. The next level of Hip Hop is an advanced class and requires some dance experience. Minimum age for this class is 11 years. 3

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS How can I enrol? You can enrol at any time via email. It is recommended you enrol as soon as possible due to class size limitations. Re-enrolling each term is not necessary but if you choose not to then please notify the school. Do I have to pre-enrol for class? We recommend you secure your place in class by registering prior to the new term, particularly for the beginner tap & jazz, and beginner acro classes. Due to the high number of younger students we are limited to class size. I need to speak to someone with regards to my class/es Keyarna is available via email or text at any time (prefer this to phone calls so there is written information to refer back to) and will be at classes for you to ask any questions you may have (before and after class). Will the timetable change? It is possible that some class times may change for age related and style changes, due to popularity or lack of interest. As our school grows it will be necessary to make timetable changes to accommodate numbers and classes as required – this will usually only happen at the start of the year. I’m not sure if I’ll like the class, can I pay for 1 casual class? Casual classes are available, subject to space availability, as preference is given to dancers committing to a 10 week term. Accordingly, we encourage you to watch a class in the previous term to assess if it’s what you are after. We don’t recommend a decision be made about any dance class after attending only once, as it is unlikely that you will achieve anything with less than 5 lessons. Do you hold exams? We offer exams through a different dance school. Please speak to Miss Keyarna if you are interested. Can I do competitions? Some students will be given the opportunity to do solos, duos and trios. This is INVITATION ONLY by the teacher. 10
Do I have to wear the uniform? Yes, the uniform colours for our school are black, purple, turquoise and white. If you choose to wear your own clothing please ensure it is appropriate dance attire. NO SCHOOL UNIFORMS ARE TO BE WORN TO CLASS. Children may be asked to sit out from their lesson if they do not wear correct dance clothing. Do I have to do ballet? All competition students are required to enrol in the Ballet Exam class. What if I am having trouble paying my fees? If you are finding it difficult to pay your fees you need to contact Miss Keyarna ASAP about this. A payment plan may be available to you. Do you have an annual concert? Yes we do, and all children are included unless otherwise informed. Costs associated with the concert will be charged to you, even if they do not participate, if you have not notified us by the end of Term 1. Will I have to do the concert? Performing in the concert is not compulsory although the children usually want to once they have spent time learning their routines. There are extra costs associated for this – one costume per dance, hair piece, shoes, and various other costs. A deposit is required in Term 2 and will be added to the term account/invoice. Final costs will be handed out closer to the concert date. Tickets are also available at an extra cost and range in price depending on the venue. All tickets are available on a first come basis. Tickets must be pre-ordered, as no door sales will be available on the day. When will I get my costumes for the concert? Costume making starts in April and continues until the October school holidays, and will be ready for the dress rehearsal. Costumes will only be given once FULL PAYMENT has been received. 11
