There is a full rehearsal at the theater starting at eleven A.M. on the performance day. PERFORMANCE Bodiography Center for Movement will hold its annual Spring Performance at the Byham Theater. This performance is primarily geared towards offering performance opportunities to our advanced students who are studying classical variations and advanced coursework, but is inclusive of students in graded levels 1 and up. Bodiography strives to maintain a high level of professionalism and our yearly performance is used to display student talent and achievement, therefore students only wear classroom attire (see dress code below). Class time will not be used for rehearsal until April, and notices will be given out if additional rehearsal time is needed to solidify performance pieces. Student participation at every level is optional. There is a small “Performance Commitment” fee of $25. Our young dancers have found themselves each year stressed the day of the show to relearn staging and choreography because other dancers did not attend. The faculty needs to prepare the students the best we can for this special day to make it a meaningful and positive experience. The performance has always been optional and will remain so- and like in years past there will still be no costume fees.
DRESS CODE Bodiography Center for Movement firmly believes in the artistry and discipline of all genres of dance. While all physical shapes and sizes are welcomed at BCM, appearance and etiquette are critical aspects of professional training. Students are not permitted to wear T-shirts, baggy warm-ups, or any form of pedestrian clothing. Any student failing to obey the dress code more than three instances will be politely asked to leave class until appropriate attire is attained. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. CREATIVE AND PRE-BALLET All students are required to wear a pink leotard, and hair must be in a bun or fastened securely away from the face. GRADED LEVEL PROGRAM (Level 1-College Preparatory) BALLET All students are required to wear a black leotard, and hair must be neatly secured in a bun. MODERN/JAZZ All students are required to wear black leotards but may choose to wear black tights or jazz pants. Black split sole jazz oxfords are required for jazz classes, and hair must be neatly secured in a bun unless otherwise requested from a teacher. All modern classes will be barefoot. COLLEGE PREPARATORY PROGRAM All students are required to wear a solid black leotard, and hair must be neatly secured in a bun. Pointe shoes are required for the program. Warm-ups may be worn through tendus only. Black tights/jazz pants, and black split sole jazz oxfords will be required for jazz class, and bare feet are required in modern class. Character shoes will also be required for some workshop sessions. Shorts are not accepted at any time. TIGHTS FOR BALLET BALLET CLASS AND REHEARSAL AT ALL LEVELS Regardless of skin tone, dancers are permitted to wear flesh tone tights and ballet flat shoes/pointe shoes that match most closely to their own skin tone; OR dancers may wear classical pink tights with pink ballet flat shoes/pointe shoes. Flesh tone tights worn with pink shoes, and pink tights worn with flesh tone shoes are not permitted. PERFORMANCE Graded Level students: Pink footed or transitional tights and pink ballet slippers are to be worn for all ballet pieces in the Spring Concert. The brand and style are not mandated at this level. College Preparatory and Student Company students: Classical ballet pieces may be performed in flesh tone tights/shoes in some cases. Soloist roles for Variations, for example, could be performed in flesh tone at the discretion of the artistic staff, in conjunction with the performer’s wishes. For large group ensemble classical ballet works, specific
classical pink tights are to be worn. Pointe shoes will be pancaked to match the pink tights, as different brands of shoes come in an array of shades. This will allow for a cohesive leg line throughout the performance. TIGHTS We recommend Capezio style 1916 for flesh tone tights. Kryolan aquacolor comes in 8 shades that can be used to match these tights. For the College Preparatory classical ballet work you will need Capezio seamed professional mesh transitional tights style no. 9 in theatrical pink. It is important you purchase theatrical pink and not classical pink. They are very different colors (classical is the darker pink, and theatrical is the lighter pink). We will use Kryolan 1101 “TV white” to color the pointe shoes. BOYS & MEN Boys and men at every level of ballet are required to wear a white t-shirt, black tights, white socks and white or black ballet slippers. TAP AND HIP HOP Students are required to wear black tap shoes and black jazz pants for the tap classes. The hip hop classes may wear sweat pants and clean sneakers. NOTEBOOKS ARE REQUIRED AT ALL TIMES FOR ALL STUDIO AND ACADEMIC COURSES LEVELS 1 AND UP. RECREATIONAL PROGRAM Students are required to wear appropriate dance attire. In the event of a closure, please make up your class as soon as possible in a class similar to the one missed. STUDENT PERFORMANCE COMPANIES Bodiography Center for Movement strives to provide our student body with the most impactful classroom and performance opportunities in preparation for a collegiate or professional career in the arts. In addition to our annual Byham performance, we have been granted the use of a beautiful performance space on the La Roche College campus. In this space, the students of BCM will be provided with the opportunity to be a part of a performance group who will engage in additional performances throughout the calendar year with the La Roche College dance majors. As we continue to maintain the integrity of our leveled programming and our College Preparatory offerings, these opportunities are extracurricular. Students may audition for the company and articulate if they are interested in the positions of principal, soloist, or ensemble artists. All candidates are required to participate in a nationally recognized or Bodiography Center for Movement three-week summer intensive program to be considered. The co-directors of the company will select a total of sixteen dancers for the company based on their application, audition, and level of weekly rehearsal commitment. Principal Artists - These students will rehearse four days per week and focus on principal roles in both the classical ballets and contemporary works. These students are allowed to take 6 class hours per week to focus their energies on rehearsals and additional coaching. Tuition - $475.00

All ensemble artists will perform their assigned roles, as well as understudy larger roles. Through this program, dancers are given a unique opportunity to further develop the skills necessary to become fully prepared to enter collegiate and professional settings that are focused on themes in both the classical and contemporary realms. All student artists are required to take a technique class prior to each of their designated rehearsal times, and their schedule will be devised based on their role as a principal, soloist, or ensemble artist.
