JAE Worksheet 1. You should complete the Worksheet in the JAE Booklet before accessing the JAE-IS to submit your application. 2. You are advised to make full use of the 12 choices, where applicable. 10
IMPORTANT!!! 1. Students should consider their course choices wisely. In the JAE, applicants are posted to a course based on merit according to their net aggregate scores (taking into account any bonus points applicants are eligible for). 2. Students should make full use of their 12 choices. If a student is unsuccessful in getting a place in any of his/her registered choices, he/she will be posted to a course with remaining vacancies AFTER all the other students are being posted according to their registered choices. 11
IMPORTANT!!! 3. Students are strongly encouraged to indicate at least 2-3 courses where their aggregate scores are much better than the previous year’s course cut-off points (COP), so that they will stand a better chance of being admitted to one of their course choices. Past year COP can be a useful reference but be prepared for variations! 4. Students who are unsuccessful in their JAE application to JC/MI may approach the institution directly to appeal. Students who wish to appeal for admission must meet the minimum entry requirements for admission to JC/MI. Those who do not meet the 2020 COP are unlikely to be successful in their appeals. 12
IMPORTANT!!! 5. Students who wish to appeal for a place in a polytechnic or ITE Higher Nitec course may do so online, through a combined polytechnic and ITE Higher Nitec appeals portal at https://jaeappeal.edu.sg. Results of the appeal will also be released through this portal. 6. Students who were not posted to any course during the JAE might receive a Nitec course offer from ITE. You are also strongly encouraged to submit an appeal through the above portal as you can still appeal for a Higher Nitec course. 7. Students wishing to appeal online must (i) meet the minimum entry requirements for their chosen polytechnic / ITE courses and (ii) the current year’s cut-off point (information will be made available on the JAE appeals website). 13
IMPORTANT!!! 8. Please use all 6 JAE appeals choices carefully. You will be informed of the outcome through the appeals portal and SMS notifications. 9. If you do not receive a posting by the end of JAE appeals, you might be offered an alternative course as an additional option. If you are offered an alternative posting, you are encouraged to accept it as it will give you a chance to continue your studies. 10. You can still appeal directly to the polytechnics or ITE for courses that you are interested in. You can do this even if you have accepted a posting through the JAE appeals. 14

Career Guidance for JAE 2020 for 2019 Sec 4E5N cohort 19
The GCE O-Level is not the destination. It is part of the process of growing and learning. • As you await your GCE O-Level results, there are 3 possibilities: – You are happy that your results meet your expectations, – You are overjoyed that your results exceed your expectations, or – You are worried / upset because your results fall short of your expectations. Remember that everyone’s learning journey is different but we can have a fulfilling outcome! Many pathways and opportunities! 20
Managing Your Emotions and Making Your Decisions When you receive your results, you may feel overwhelmed by emotions. Managing these emotions well will allow you to stay calm and make rational decisions. Stop any unhelpful thoughts or actions that would make you more upset. Inhale deeply and exhale slowly using 10 counts as STOP you relax your muscles. Acknowledge your emotions. Think through the different options that are available for you. Keep things in perspective. Remember that the O-Level is just THINK one part of your life journey and not the destination. Approach a trusted adult and seek his/her help. Have a conversation with this person about what would be best for you. DO Make a decision based on your options and take action.
The ability to learn, un-learn and re-learn will be key “The future economy calls for a very different sort of education… It is a future driven by the need for skills, innovation, adaptability and flexibility… (and it) means that learning has to continue well into adult life” - Indranee Rajah (2019)
