SEPTEMBER 2019 We would like to welcome all of our new and returning students and families to the 2019-2020 school year! We hope everyone had a great summer and is ready for an exciting and engaging school year. Our staff has been working hard over the last few weeks getting ready for your children and are looking forward to working with all our students at Isaac Newton. We are looking forward in serving the community and the students at Isaac Newton School. I am confident in saying that myself and the entire staff at Isaac Newton School take great pride in working with you in partnership in making this school year a great success for all our learners. Our Grade 9 students are starting their first year of high school with the credit system. Students are encouraged to make sure they have a clear understanding of how the credit system works with the help of our resource teacher, guidance counsellor or the grade 9 teachers. Those new to our school are encouraged to seek out the resource teacher, the guidance counsellor, and their homeroom teachers as they adjust to a new school and junior high. Isaac Newton offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities for student to join . All students are encouraged to participate on as many teams and clubs as they can, as this will enhance their learning experience at Isaac Newton. This year we are welcoming several new and returning staff members at Isaac Newton. Ms. Angela Perez our new vice-principal, Ms. Tai Puhawan who is our new guidance counsellor, Ms Angela Lalor is returning from a leave and will be teaching grade 8 mathematics and social studies, Mr. Jake Wolfe who is also returning from a leave and will be teaching grade 8 physical education and grade 9 social studies. We also welcome a group of Teacher candidate students that will be training with their designated teachers this year. We welcome them all to our school and the Isaac Newton School community. Isaac Newton continues to have a strong focus on Literacy and Numeracy for our students . We take pride in being able to accommodate all learners in our school through specialized programs and classes. Parents/guardians, we encourage you to have discussions with your child’s subject area teacher if you have any concerns or questions about their class placement. We also remind families that all our staff are open to phone calls and emails to discuss concerns or questions. Please contact your child’s homeroom teacher first followed by subject area teachers. If further information is required, contact our guidance counsellor or resource teacher. For further concerns, please contact administration for further discussion.. We have implemented a new attendance recording system at Isaac Newton called School Messenger. This system has many ways for parents to enter absences. Unexcused absences will generate a call after 9:30 AM, so please ensure that you understand how to input absences for you children. If you require further information on how to use the system, please contact the school office. We are looking forward to a great school year meeting all students’ families at our Meet the Teacher evening on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 from 5:30 to 7:00 PM Sincerely, Mohammad Rezai Angela Perez Principal Vice‐Principal

Isaac Newton School M. Rezai - Principal A. Perez - Vice-Principal mrezai@wsd1.org aperez@wsd1.org September 2019 Dear Parents/Guardians: I am writing to ask your assistance in helping to keep your child/children and the rest of our school community healthy. The flu season in Manitoba usually begins in the late fall and lasts into the spring. The flu is an infection caused by a virus. It can spread easily from one person to another through coughing, sneezing or sharing food or drinks. You can also get the flu by touching objects contaminated with flu virus and then touching your mouth, eyes or nose. Here are some proven ways to help reduce the spread of germs and viruses: Wash hands: Wash your hands frequently with soap and running water for at least 15 seconds. Elbows: Cough or sneeze into the inside of the elbow. Eyes, nose, and mouth: Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth as germs and viruses can transfer from the hands into the body in this way. Safety zone: Stay at least one metre away from anyone who is sick. Please keep children who are sick at home. Do not send them to school. They should not be around other people until they are better. If you have questions, please contact your healthcare provider. For more information, contact Health Links 788-8200 or visit the Manitoba Health website: www.gov.mb.ca/health/flu Sincerely, Mr. M.
