QCC PLANS IN RELATION TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC Clearly the Coronavirus (COVID-19) has sparked an emergency across our community & the World. A situation that has developed and changes weekly. There can be no denying the exponential growth in this virus’s spread, so as you are no doubt aware, there are a number of government restrictions and health recommendations which are already in place, and new ones being introduced at times, we seem to have respectable control of the Virus in Queensland, but this still will affect the way the Queensland Corvette Club Inc. can operate in the future. The Management Committee conveys to all QCC Members that they must comply with all the up to date Government Regulations/Restrictions & respect your other Members & their Family on all Events/ Runs going into the future. QUEENSLAND CORVETTE CLUB Inc. ABN 37 497 880 910 PRESIDENTS REPORT AUGUST 2021 Hi Corvetters, COVID again, this month, but this time a full lockdown and restrictions put on us for 8 days, hope they can get this new Delta strain under control, so we don’t look at another week. This COVID Strain is dreadful, so we must consider the wider implications and as a Club and we cannot risk potentially exposing our members or their families to any increased risk of spreading the virus. Due to these COVID restrictions in place now most Runs/Events have been postponed or cancelled. We have had to cancel 2 meetings now and hopefully September we can have the AGM, time will tell !! Repco Max Charity Day has been cancelled with no date in sight with all other runs have been postponed to later dates, again depending on the COVID situation. NB: So, to remind you all please before you set off for any Runs advertised in the Vetteletter phone or email the trip leader or myself. I did say the July Vetteletter was the last correspondence for those who have not paid their Membership renewal, however because we have missed 2 meetings and have around 33 Members not renewed, I have sent this to every member on the 2020-2021 database. This will be your last Vetteletter unless you renew. We currently have 112 Members. Runs/Events to look out for: Morgan Park Raceway / Performax Production Racing – Sat 20th & Sun 21st August. Gold Coast Car Show / Bob Mihill’s Memorial Run – This has been postponed till Sunday 7th November. Mothers Products Demo / Auto One Browns Plains – Tuesday Night 28th September. We have been invited by Auto One to get some great info and demonstrations for all the products from Gary Waterson from Mothers. On the night Members will get a 25% discount on all products and 15% to all other Members till the end of September. Stone Pillow / Wounded Heroes 9th October – This is a family open day & sleep-out being held at their headquarters @ 221 Grindle Road, Wacol and it would be nice to see as many Vettes as possible to support one of our major charities & their Event. More info will be in the September Vetteletter or contact Brad. Carrara Markets / 5th Father’s Day Car Show Weekend – Sat 4th & Sun 5th September. As per previous years this is a 2-day Event, but you can attend & show your Vette for 1 day. So, if you are interested, please contact Tom the organiser directly. What he will need is your name, email, Vette details & phone number, and what days you will be coming. Contact Tom Stoewer / email: tom.c.stoewer@gmail.com for the Info. All the best for the month take care and stay safe. Drive you Dream. Brad Stumer bradstumer@gmail.com / Mob: 0414 730 833 QCC VETTELETTER— AUGUST 2021 Page 7

QUEENSLAND CORVETTE CLUB Inc. ABN 37 497 880 910 Jumpers & Jazz / Warwick Weekend Met up with fellow attendees at Puma Service Centre Dinmore, there were 4 Corvettes and 3 Pontiacs. We travelled up to Oakey for a break, then onto the Oakey Army Aviation Museum which I found very interesting. Then we continued onto the Meringandan Pub meeting up with a couple more Pontiacs. The seating was outside unfortunately it was a very cold & windy day, and they were not able to move us indoors, so we moved onto the Highfields Tavern for lunch. Left there late afternoon and back to Toowoomba for the night. Waking up early morning to 1 degree then departed with 2 Corvettes & 5 Pontiacs to Warwick for the Jumpers & Jazz Festival meeting up with 2 more QCC Vettes. QCC VETTELETTER— AUGUST 2021 Page 12

QUEENSLAND CORVETTE CLUB Inc. ABN 37 497 880 910 Performax Racing @ Lakeside Results for Performax Racing for the last round at Lakeside Raceway on the 10th of July. Great weekend for Performax Racing in the last round with both cars being hard to beat. American muscle pre- vailed showing the Japanese and European cars a good clear view of their rear end, and that’s the closest anyone got all weekend. A lot of comments were made about how fast these two cars were around the track with Greg set- ting the pace for the day, a time nobody could get close to, except Michael in the C5. The Grey C6 Z06 Driven by Greg Waters took out POLL position on the weekend and then went on to make it a clean sweep for the weekend taking out first place in Race 1, Race 2 and Race 3. The Black and White C5 Driven by Michael Learoyd was right up there with him taking out second place in qualify- ing and then 2nd place in Race 1 and Race 2. Unfortunately, on race 3 he suffered a fuel issue and didn’t complete the last lap. Performax Racing only intended to use this year as a test, to work out what needed to be done to the cars and set them up properly to be competitive next year. Looks like the plans may have changed as we are now becoming the front runners in the series a lot faster than we expected. Next race is at Morgan Park in August on the 20th and 21st, a big weekend with 2 days of racing. QCC VETTELETTER— AUGUST 2021 Page 18

QUEENSLAND CORVETTE CLUB Inc. ABN 37 497 880 910 CORVETTE SOLD OUT BEFORE THE FIRST ONE LANDS IN AUSSIE The first batch of factory-built right-hand-drive Chevrolet Corvettes has sold out before they’ve even turned up in local showrooms – and there will likely be a blackout before the next Australian allocation arrives. The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette sports-car has become a sell-out success before the first example has even been displayed on a showroom floor. And some buyers have agreed to pay dealer delivery fees in excess of $20,000 to secure a vehicle, in some cases pushing drive-away prices beyond $200,000. All 250 in the first allocation of factory-built right-hand-drive Chevrolet Corvettes are spoken for and have customer names on them – and all were bought without a single local test drive. General Motors Specialty Vehicles (GMSV) has confirmed “the initial allocation has been accounted for”. However, the GMSV statement added: “But this is only the first allocation”. CarAdvice understands each dealer will only receive between three and five vehicles, with little flexibility in choice of colours or options. However, dealers – and it seems customers – are taking all they can get in the historic first shipment of factory-built right-hand-drive Corvettes. For the first time in the 58-year history of the Corvette, General Motors will manufacture a right-hand-drive version of its iconic sports car – North America’s answer to Porsche and Ferrari. The latest generation is the first time the engine has been mid-mounted (behind the driver’s seat), making a right- hand-drive conversion more economical and less of an engineering challenge. As reported earlier, there will initially be five versions of the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette, starting with a model called the 2LT priced from $144,990 plus on- road costs, a mid-grade 3LT priced from $160,500 plus on-road costs, and a flagship Carbon Edition, priced from $189,990 before on-road costs. QCC VETTELETTER— AUGUST 2021 Page 22
QUEENSLAND CORVETTE CLUB Inc. ABN 37 497 880 910 A convertible version of all the 2LT and 3LT models will also be available for an additional $15,000 each – bringing the total line-up at launch to five models. The first batch of right-hand-drive Chevrolet Corvettes is due to roll off the production line in Bowling Green, Kentucky, USA in the second half of this year before local deliveries commence either just before Christmas or early next year. When asked if there will be continuous supply of the Chevrolet Corvette – or if the model will be sold periodically and in batches – a statement from GMSV said: “There will be some further Model Year 2022 allocation, with Model Year 2023 to follow when production commences for right-hand drive,” said GMSV. Left unsaid for now are any plans for the even faster Chevrolet Corvette Z06 version, which is yet to be unveiled. However, CarAdvice understands that model is also a chance to come to Australia eventually, albeit in limited numbers. When asked about industry claims some GMSV dealers were quoting between $20,000 and $40,000 in dealer delivery fees – in addition to the dealer’s profit margin – given the popularity of the vehicle and the initial tight stock allocation, the statement from GMSV said: “Delivery fees are at the discretion of the dealer”. The latest Chevrolet Corvette is the fastest of its breed, after switching to a mid-engine layout (for better weight distribution) and a fast-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission. Powered by a 6.2-litre V8 (369kW/637Nm) paired to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic that drives the rear wheels, Chevrolet claims the Corvette can accelerate from 0-100km/h in a Porsche-quick 3 seconds. Overseas media have reported 0 to 60mph (96kmh) times of 2.8 seconds. For the first time in the history of the Corvette, a manual transmission is not available. QCC VETTELETTER— AUGUST 2021 Page 23
