Working to improve the quality of life for disabled children, young people and their families in Derby City and Southern Derbyshire O August 2018 Bulletin Car Park At long last our safe space car park is now complete. Securing funds for the car park was more difficult than we expected, but once again our wonderful friends gave time and money to help. Initially the car park is being used by staff transporting children and young adults to Umbrella House and office staff, this will ensure lots of space is available in the close for families to drop off and pick up. The car park has been a real labour of love and our huge thanks go to Keith and his wonderful friends, BAM Construction, Strata all of whom made light work of clearing the wasteland. Geoff Collett from GCA, Tomlinsons and associates who provided professional advice, guidance and drawings, The Coop, Screw Fix, Stamp and Deliver and The White Swan for their financial help and last but not least Paul and our wonderful friends at Industrial Contracting Services (ICS) who completed the work at a very favourable rate. Independent Support The new Information, Advice and Support Programme. The Independent Support programme is coming to an end. Independent Support was always intended to be a time limited resource, supporting the transition from statements to EHCPs. Information, advice and support will continue to be provided by local SENDIASS and the National Contact helpline, which will in turn be supported by the Information Advice and Support Programme. The programme will also work with IPSEA as a core training provider. If you need support please contact Derby City: SENDIASS@derby.gov.uk 01332 641414 or text 07800005190, Derby SENDIASS, The Council House, Corporation Street, Derby, DE1 2FS. Children’s Services at Twin Lakes This month the children enjoyed a wonderful day out to Twin Lakes Theme Park. Our Co-Ordinator Assistant Danielle had been fundraising for this trip through cake sales and an 80s quiz night. We were also very kindly donated a coach to use for the day by the Freemasons of Derby. The children had a brilliant day filled with fun, laughter and sunshine! Umbrella would like to take this opportunity to thank the Freemasons of Derby for their kind donation; for all of the families and members of public that supported the fundraising events and to all of the staff who worked extremely hard on the day to ensure the children had an amazing time! What’s happening in Umbrella Young Adult Services We would love you to join us at the White Swan’s Family Fun Day. Shepherd Street, Littleover, Derby DE23 6GA on Monday August 27 2018 from 2pm. Back in 2010 the funding for the voluntary sector was slashed, this resulted in local authorities cutting services for disabled children and young people. Umbrella knew this would put huge strain on the families and decided to raise funds to cover the shortfall. With the help of our wonderful friends and supporters we have successfully raised £50,000 each year to provide much needed services. Every penny has been gratefully received. The White Swan Pub in Littleover have raised funds for Umbrella for many years and last year was no exception, they raised a whopping £10,300.00 The money is raised by their loyal customers and staff throughout the year. The biggest fundraiser is the Annual Golf day and Family Fun day which is held during the August Bank holiday weekend. We cannot thank the White Swan Pub enough for their incredible loyalty and support. We are really excited to hear that plans are well under way for this years event. The Charity Golf day is taking place on Sunday August 26 at Mickleover Golf Club. If you are a keen golfer and would like to take part then call 07855568842 for more information. The following day, Bank holiday Monday 27th August, the White Swan Pub hosts a Family Fun day with lots of exciting activities for the whole family, including a bouncy castle, face painting, Jumping Clay, tombola and bottle stall, good as new items, music, bbq. We would love you to come along to support Brendan and his wonderful staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to help Umbrella. ALL of the proceeds are given to Umbrella.
