Please keep up the good work. We are able to get through so much great learning when attendance is high. Unfortunately, we continue to have a high number of unexplained and unauthorised absences. We are going to try to improve our home-school communication by running a rewards activity for the next 4 weeks. All students with no unexplained or unauthorised absences from Monday next week until the end of term will be acknowledged with a free pick from the current book club catalogue in the last week of school. Students will not be penalised for sick days and other authorised absences. Remember, Every Day Counts! Then we got to Mungulla. After that, we parked and went to have lunch and it was kind of like a picnic when we were eating. Then when we finished having lunch we found a spot for our bags on the veranda. Then we all painted a boomerang on the veranda. It was so much fun. Everyone finished and then we let them dry under the hot sun. While we waited, Mr Tom and some students played touch footy but they only played for a little while. Next, we did boomerang throwing with real boomerangs. We waited for a turn behind a big net. There was an Aunty called Aunty Jo who taught us to throw the boomerang and when she was throwing a boomerang it accidently hit me in the stomach. Finally, we hopped on the bus and went back to school. It was a brilliant day. By Layla My trip to Mungulla Station On my trip to Mungulla Station first we went on the bus and cruised away from Kennedy. Then we went past Cardwell and then past Ingham. After that, we came to the entrance of Mungulla Station. Finally, we hopped off the bus and got introduced to Uncle Jacob but I already know him because he’s my uncle. We went on a bus and got taken to “Sand Ridge” which is Nywaigi Country and Uncle Jacob told us facts about James and Frank Cassady. That’s where we got our last name from. Then we got to go and do lots of activities. Before we went home, we had a go at throwing boomerangs. We went back to school and got picked up. It was so good to see my family there. By Shaya Mungulla Excursion Last Tuesday we went to Mungulla Station. We had lunch and played. Uncle Jacob pulled up in a bus and let us jump in and we did a tour of the station. We saw crocs. Next, we did dot painting and after that we did a little bit of play. We played touch football and then we threw boomerangs. Lastly, we went home on the bus and got picked up. It was an excellent day. By Ethan

It took us about an hour and ten minutes. Mungulla is near Forrest Beach. First, we met up with Uncle Jacob. He took us to the Sand Ridge in his bus. It was kind of scary. Then we went back to paint our own boomerang that we got to take home. Then we had lunch. There were apple slices, orange pieces, salad and hot dogs. After that we threw some boomerangs. Everyone got a turn. Finally, we went home. It was pretty fun but kind of scary on Uncle Jacob’s bus. By Ruby Trip to Mungulla Station On Tuesday 17th we went to Mungulla for a school excursion. We had to go past Cardwell and Ingham to get to Forrest Beach on the school bus. The ride was one hour and ten minutes long so when we got to Mungulla station we had morning tea. Then we got to see a leaf that can be used as soap and another one that can be used as sandpaper. We saw pig traps and things that were used in old houses. Next, we went back to the station to learn about the Nywaigai languages while we painted our boomerangs that we took home at the end of the day. After that we had a BBQ for lunch. Building resilience in children Resilience … it’s a familiar word, isn’t it? But what does it really mean? When we talk about resilience, we’re talking about a child’s ability to cope with ups and downs, and bounce back from the challenges they experience during childhood. Building resilience helps children not only to deal with current difficulties that are a part of everyday life, but also to develop the basic skills and habits that will help them deal with challenges later in life, during adolescence and adult- hood. Resilience is important for children’s mental health. Children with greater resilience are better able to manage stress, which is a common response to difficult events. Stress is a risk factor for mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression, if the level of stress is severe or ongoing. https://healthyfamilies.beyondblue.org.au/healthy-homes/building-resilience
