INFO ITINERARY 14th February 2022 Arrival Day One: Transfer to 15th February 2022 Base Camp 16th February 2022 Day Two: Arrenjarka 17th February 2022 Day Three: Arrenjarka 18th February 2022 Day Four: Mini-Exped 19th February 2022 Day Five: Mini-Exped 20th February 2022 Day Six: Mini-Exped 21st February 2022 Day seven: Travel Home PRICE: £2000 PER PERSON WHAT’S INCLUDED • Transfer to and from Lulea • Training workshops held indoors and outdoors with highly qualified, expedition experienced instructors TRAVEL TO AND FROM THE TRAINING • Hire of Tent, Pulk and Skis for mini-expedition • A mini-expedition in the arctic, sleeping under canvas You’ll make your own way to Lulea in Northern Sweden on the 14th February 2022 and stay in a hotel provided by ourselves. NOT INCLUDED • Flights On the 15th February 2022 you will be collected from the hotel and • Mandatory Kit (see last page) transfered to Base Camp. Lulea can be reached easily by train or domestic flight from Stockholm. PLEASE NOTE: Due to the ever-changing nature of managing events during the Covid_19 crisis, there will be more information to follow On the 21st Feb 2022, we will take you by coach back to Lulea Airport for in the coming weeks including: your return journey. • A full finalised list of all mandatory kit • More detail on the route of the expedition and location of the final camp.
DAY ONE LOCATION: ARRENJARKA Arrenjarka DATE: 15.02.22 Welcome to the arctic. APPROXIMATE TIMINGS* You have entered Swedish Lapland, a UNESCO World 1300 – Pick up from airport in Lulea Heritage area, above the arctic and transfer to the Arrenjarka 1600 – Welcome brief, course line. overview. Settle into rooms 1930 – Dinner This area is home to the Sami, 2100 – Cold weather awareness talk the indigenous population who 2200 – Bed have thrived in these conditions for many many generations. *These will be confirmed closer to the event Our team will collect you from Lulea International Airport and transport you to Arrenjarka. Arrenjarka is a small resort by the side of a frozen lake and will serve as our Base Camp and the venue for the classroom based activities. After arriving at Arrenjarka and settling in with a brief of the course and dinner, the first talk of the trip takes place before everyone retires to their beds.
DAY TWO LOCATION: ARRENJARKA Arrenjarka DATE: 16.02.22 After breakfast, day 2 begins 0700 – breakfast – make pack lunch with an orientation hike around at breakfast the frozen lakes and pine forests 0800 – Orientation walk – intro to surrounding Arrenjarka. the cold 0900 – Inside, equipment talk, gear check, staying warm, using clothing Once you’ve become accustomed correctly to the snow, it’s straight into 1000 – Inside talk on Skis and skiing a full day of indoor talks and 1030 – outside skiing outdoor practical workshops to 1200 – inside, discuss clothing begin building up the skills you’ll issues, skiing need to thrive in the arctic. 1230 – Lunch 1315 – Inside talk on tents – This will include learning to use routines, set up your skis and pulk, outside and 1400 – Outside tent demo – then tent practice in darkness, something you’ll 1530 – Inside talk on stoves – need to become adept at for the combine with tent upcoming mini-expedition. 1600 – Outside stove demo – stove practice – out of tents and inside tents 1700 – Break – tea, coffee 1730 – Intro to pulks and pulk packing 1815 – Outside ski with pulks – in the dark, headtorches 1900 – Back to rooms, get ready for dinner 2000 – Dinner 2100 – Evening talk on mini exped – travelling in a group, trail etiquette 2200 – bed
DAY THREE DATE: 17.02.22 Kvikkjokk After an early start, it’s 0700 – breakfast – make pack straight into preparing for your lunch expedition experience. 0800 – Start preparing for mini exped – talk on food prep and Today you’ll learn how to feed cooking yourself in the frozen north, 0900 – food prep brush up on your navigation skills 1000 – Navigation, maps, GPS and prepare yourself and your 1100 – Start packing for Mini equipment for the first night exped – this will be ongoing living outside above the arctic throughout the day line. 1230 – lunch 1315 – continue prep for mini It’ll be near dark by the time exped your march into the snow begins 1500 – depart on mini exped and you’ll build your camp using 1630 – set up camp for the night, headtorches, before passing your in the dark – head torches first freezing night under canvas.
DAY FOUR Expedition DATE: 18.02.22 A full day of expedition. Day 4 – Mini exped 0700 – awaken and have Expect 10-14 mies of hiking with breakfast in tents much to learn along the way. 1000 – pull pole Travel designated course – The mileage might seem humble stopping every 2 hours for food but dragging all your kit behind and water – travel for 6 hours you in a pulk whilst travelling 1600 – set up camp next to large on skis isn’t easy work for the tent uninitiated. The terrain varies from pine forest trails, heaped with soft snow, to wind-scoured frozen lakes where temperatures plummet and you live in the knowledge of ice being all that sits between you and the freezing water beneath. Enjoy the conversation at camp in the evening as we reflect on the day. Fingers crossed that your arctic cookery skills are honed in time for dinner. Keep your eyes on the sky as the night draws in, this area sees the northern lights regularly at this time of year.
DAY FIVE Expedition DATE: 19.02.22 Another full day of expedition 0700 – awaken and have with 12-15 miles to cover with breakfast in tents your pulks. 0930 – pull pole Travel designated course – Towing that load should be stopping every 2 hours for food second nature by now and we’ll and water – travel for 8 hours push on for longer today as a 1730 – Set up camp – in the dark, consequence. headtorches needed Large tent will be set up for staff This is the time to consolidate your new-found winter survival skills. DAY SIX Expedition DATE: 20.02.22 This will be the last time you Day 6 – Mini exped finish wake up under canvas on this 0700 – breakfast in tents – trip. After your final breakfast in 0930 – pull pole the field, we’ll march ourselves to Travel to accommodation our next accomodation. 1100 – Dekit – sort all kit into relevant sections Once you’re de-kitted there’ll 1130 – Relax in rooms – use day be time to relax and recuperate bags for lunch before debrief and dinner where 1600 – debrief – you and your colleagues will 1930 – Dinner have a chance to talk through all 2100 – free time you’ve done across the previous days.
DAY SEVEN 21.02.2022 After one more Scandinavian breakfast, our team will take you back to Lulea International Airport ready for your return journey. We’ll look forward to seeing you again in future when you can test your new winter skills in a racing environment.
KIT LIST There are likely to be minor changes to this kit list as planning progresses and we will keep you updated. All items are compulsory. Skis, Pulks and the ropes and karabiners needed to use them will be provided as will tents. Should you wish to bring your own please let us know in advance so we can discuss this with you.
