Already February We are entering week three of In-Person learning at Arctic Light K-8. We've learned a bit about keeping things safe. 1. Kids get sick at school and need to go home. This happens even during regular times. During a pandemic, students who have Covid-like symptoms need to quarantine. This keeps everyone safe. 2. Wearing a mask all day is not easy. Masks get wet and need to be replaced. Properly wearing a mask all day keeps everyone safe. 3. Communication keeps our educational system working. When teaches and parents work as educational allies - student learning soars. Let your teacher know if you have questions or even positive stories about how your child learns best. 4. Choice schooling is not perfect but it is better than last year. We know we have a long road ahead until we return to normal schooling. Parent schooling choice works as long as we all do our best Covid safety practices. In two weeks we have Parent/ Teacher Conferences: February 15th & 16th. Look for communication from your teacher regarding your style: telephone or virtual. If these don't work, do talk with your child's teacher. These conferences provide important insights into your child's strengths and areas of need. Do share your thoughts and observations about what works best for your child. The more we all work together the more your child will succeed. Know we appreciate all that you do and have done to make educational successes for your children. Counselors Corner - February 1, 2021 Hello Staff and Families, Our February themes of Honesty and Kindness continue our current Social and Emotional Learnings about: Recognizing feelings Accepting them Taking time to become more aware of breathing to feel better, and thinking for insights (brainstorming) Choosing the next small steps or healthy actions to take for solutions Honesty is: Acting, speaking, thinking and seeing truthfully Being trustworthy, fair, loyal and sincere (trust is the basis for relationships) Being someone who others can depend on to act responsibly, to do what was promised if possible and to make amends when it was not (being careful not to do wrong; to have honor)
Kindness is: Showing that you understand and care through acts of friendship Being generous and not expecting something in return Processing uncomfortable feelings to get to forgiveness Honesty and Kindness are actions that sustain trust and connection for healthy communities. Instructional Coach Corner - February 1, 2021 Hi Arctic Light families, Two weeks of students back in the building has already come and gone. It is truly wonderful to see the students learning and working together with their peers and teachers. I understand that these are still trying times and that we're barely into the third quarter, and so I just wanted to take the opportunity to make myself available if there are any questions or concerns regarding the education or well being of your child. As an instructional coach, I like to make myself available to families who may have questions about the curriculum, homework, classwork, or anything else that may be of concern. We are all in this together... Stay warm out there! Nick Hoy Instructional Coach Arctic Light Elementary 907-356-2038 X28017
