NOTICE FROM OUR HEALTH OFFICE: TICK TIPS! Spring is here and summer is right around the corner!!!! It’s a great time to enjoy outdoor activities, such as hiking, biking, and exploring. Along with this comes a genuine concern about insects, especially ticks. How can we play safely this season? A few facts about ticks: -In our area, wood ticks (a.k.a.dog ticks) and deer ticks are the most common. -Although ticks can carry disease, most people are concerned about deer ticks and the bacteria that they carry for Lyme Disease. -Deer ticks are usually smaller than wood ticks and have a characteristic red/black color. The nymph stage is the most aggressive for biting and the nymph stage peaks May-July. -Bites usually occur at the ankle yet ticks love to migrate to warm places such as the groin, behind the ears and knees and on the back. EMS Mission Statement The Epping Middle School community educates and empowers students within a safe environment to become respectful, involved, and knowledgeable 21st century learners and citizens.
-Deer ticks inject the Lyme Disease bacteria into the skin and there is a 3-32 day incubation period. Watch for a red, circular rash, joint aches and flu-like symptoms. -Quick assessment and treatment after a deer tick bite helps to clear the infection; your doctor can help you decide when to seek care and treatment. Attendance Reminder - In an effort to clarify attendance during this very challenging time, the following applies to parents calling their student out "Remote." "Remote" attendance is not something that we can accommodate or support on a day to day basis. For attendance purposes this will be considered an "excused absence" in PowerSchool. Any student that is absent may not participate in any after school activities, including athletics if they have not been to school that day per our district attendance policy. As the middle school does not offer synchronous learning, students are encouraged to check Google Classroom when they are absent. Please contact Susan Gualtieri, sgualtieri@eppinsd.org with questions. Lunches Available for Remote Learners! Meals for Remote Learners are available for pick up twice a week. The pickup location is at the top of the High School entrance road, at the kitchen door on the loading dock. Ordering form is online and will be updated as things evolve. Please contact Veronica Bush at vbush@eppingsd.org with any questions. Snack is offered daily for students to purchase for $.50. Selection includes crackers, cheez-its, rice crispy treats, and granola bars. A refillable EMS water bottle is available for $2. Student Attendance and Absences ● Attendance is extremely important and is required by state law ● Attendance is taken during Morning Meeting each morning, and then each period throughout the day. ● Attendance is tracked closely. Please expect a phone call if your child has been marked absent and you have not called to report that your child will be out. Student Dismissal Policy: As has always been the policy, emergency contacts may not dismiss students unless permission is given by a parent/guardian in writing via email or note. Emergency contacts are used by the nurse if a parent cannot be contacted and/or is not available to pick up a student. Thank you! Team Leaders – Each grade has a team leader that is the contact to answer questions or have information that is related to each grade. The best way to contact teachers is via email. 8th Grade – Ms. Weisberg, pweisberg@eppingsd.org 7th Grade – Ms. Page, jpage@eppingsd.org 6th Grade – Ms. Beidleman, abeidleman@eppingsd.org EMS Mission Statement The Epping Middle School community educates and empowers students within a safe environment to become respectful, involved, and knowledgeable 21st century learners and citizens.
T RI -TOW N R E NE G ADE S 2 0 2 1 S E AS O N RE GIS TR AT ION OPE N! T H E R E N E G A D E S S TA N DA R D Difficult as it may be to achieve, The Standard is perfection. Every player executing perfectly on every single play is the goal. To do this, each player must take on the responsibility to do their job for the good of the team. It’s a simple proposition though far from easy. The only way to even have a slim chance of reaching The Standard is to make every detail important. Assignment, alignment, stance, cadence, footwork, hand placement, proper pad level, eye discipline, fakes, angles, everything! Total effort, hustle, positive attitude and enthusiasm must be given. Without these habits The Standard is unattainable.
