Highlights at the Residence Friday, May 21, 2021 After school on Friday, the boarding students went out for a walk or went shopping while enjoying the beautiful warm weather. Summer is truly just around the corner! For dinner, some girls ordered out from UberEats or prepared their own meal with the help of the Residence Life staff. Following dinner, a few of the girls had a movie night in the lounge while the others relaxed or exercised in the solarium. Saturday, May 22, 2021 The long weekend began with Ms. Celia’s delicious homemade brunch of French toast drizzled with maple syrup, a side of breakfast sausage, hash browns, and fruit. Following brunch, Ms. Meaghan and the boarding students headed to ‘Sports de Combats’ to learn knife and axe throwing. This sport seems simple to do as it requires little equipment; a knife, an axe, and a target. However, this sport entails great focus, coordination, balance, and strength, to name a few. Once the basic instructions were explained by a staff member and after a few practice runs, the girls and Ms. Meaghan started to throw knives and axes. All of the boarding girls were so proud of themselves improving in every round. Some girls were even so close to getting a bullseye but only Yoonha and Xihe (Isabel) were naturally skilled and had many perfect shots! Overall, the boarding students and staff had such a fun time learning a new sport and letting off some steam. After the activity, it was time to explore more of the Mile-End neighborhood. Luckily, the afternoon weather cleared up while everyone was on their walk. Only a block away, a few girls stopped at a local boutique that they discovered during a previous outing and bought some unique t-shirts and sweatshirts. They visited a popular ice cream shop, ‘Kem CoBa’ but unfortunately the line was too long. Nevertheless, the girls opted for a beverage at a local coffee shop. They continued discovering several local shops while walking around before heading back to the School. For dinner, Ms. Celia prepared a savory Korean beef bowl and veggies served with steamed rice and pickled cucumbers. Following dinner, game night took place in the lounge. This time, Ms. Liezl wanted to change things up and discovered a fun yet competitive activity called, ‘Minute to Win It’. The objective of the game was having only one minute to complete the tasks. The boarding girls and staff were split into two teams, red or blue. A few games that were included were, ‘Face the Cookie’, ‘Defying Gravity’, ‘Scoop ‘Em Up’, ‘Backflips’, etc. These games were perfectly executed thanks to Ms. Charlotte. The tasks consisted of transporting
marshmallows from one plate to the next using only a spoon in your mouth, or moving Smarties across the table with a straw, stacking up cups as fast as possible, using facial movements to move an Oreo cookie into one’s mouth, and so on. Everyone actively participated and had a lot of fun! The winning team was the Red Team that consisted of Linger (Danielle), Mary (Yue), Xihe (Isabel), and Yoonha! After game night, the girls were free to relax before bedtime. Sunday, May 23, 2021 On Sunday, the boarding students began their morning with a mouthwatering brunch of breakfast sliders filled with turkey, salami, and cheese served with fruit, bacon, and scrambled eggs with spinach. The afternoon in the Residence was quiet and relaxed as the boarding students cleaned their rooms, did their laundry, exercised or went out and shopped for some new summer clothes. For dinner, Ms. Celia made chicken stir-fry in a sweet chili sauce on a bed of noodles. The rest of the evening the girls had the option of a movie night or relax and catch up with family and friends. The ones who chose movie night with Ms. Charlotte watched a classic movie called ‘The Witches’. The night ended around 10pm so they would be well rested for a fun day at La Ronde the next day. Monday, May 24, 2021 As Monday could not have come any faster, the boarding students were up and about early in the morning, excited for the day’s activity. The day began with a special breakfast made by Ms. Liezl of Belgian crepes with Nutella topped with fresh strawberries or for a more savory option, green onion pancakes, and mini sausages. Following breakfast, the boarding girls got ready to spend the afternoon at La Ronde with Ms. Meaghan. The girls really enjoyed going on the rides and snacking on ice cream, more crepes, poutine, and Beaver Tails! What more could one ask for then screams, thrills, and wacky hair-dos from the ‘Ednor’, ‘Goliath’, and ‘Demons’. The boarding girls were so happy that they had the opportunity to visit La Ronde in time before the end of the school year. La Ronde never seems to disappoint! For dinner, Ms. Celia made a delicious lasagna accompanied by salad with her homemade vinaigrette. The rest of the evening was spent relaxing and preparing for the school week ahead.
