Preconference Workshop Thursday, April 5 7:45 am – 5:00 pm Registration Open 8:15 am – 11:30 am 010: Preconference Workshop 3 Contact Hours Pelvic Muscle Rehabilitation Diane Newman, DNP, ANP-BC A review of the use of biofeedback-assisted pelvic floor muscle rehabilitation will be provided. Emphasis will be placed on the use of equipment for augmenting this treatment with a hands-on interactive session. Presentation of case studies including interpretation of biofeedback graphs will be presented. Lunch will be provided to paid registrants immediately following the session. Only full conference attendees can register for this workshop. Tamera Bavendam, MD, MS Dr. Bavendam will build the case for paradigm shift from treating bladder conditions to understand- ing bladder health across the life course of women as a necessary step to prevention of bladder condi- tions that manifest as lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). It is crucial that the stigma surrounding LUTS be lessened. The NIH funded, Prevention of Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (PLUS) Research Consortium will be introduced. 8:30 am – 10:00 am Exhibits Open 10:05 am – 11:05 am 102: GENERAL SESSION 1 Contact Hour Surgical Repair of Pelvic Organ Prolapse and the Mesh Controversy Heidi Harvie, MD, MBA, MSCE This session will address the complex issues connected with pelvic organ prolapse and explore the positive and negative impact of using surgical mesh as a method to repair and restore anatomy and prevent recurrence. 11:05 am – 12:05 pm Exhibits Open 12:05 pm – 1:20 pm Lunch (pending a sponsor or on your own) 1:20 pm – 2:35 pm 103: GENERAL SESSION 1.25 Contact Hours Pelvic Organ Prolapse - Postoperative Management and Potential Complications Ariana Smith, MD; Lily Arya, MD; MS, Mary Y. Wang, DNP, CRNP; Kirstin Liu, CRNP This session will be held in a panel format with 4 speakers, (2 physi- cians and 2 nurse practitioners). The focus will be on the potentional post- operative issues that can occur after surgery for pelvic organ prolapse, with special attention to the role of the advanced practive provider in man- agement and patient education. Each speaker will give a brief presenta- tion on a topic of interest (e.g., management of postoperative pain or constipation), and the remainder of the session will be opened up to the floor for discussion of specific questions. 2:40 pm – 3:55 pm 104: GENERAL SESSION 1.25 Contact Hours Brain MRI in Women with Overactive Bladder (OAB) Ariana Smith, MD The central nervous system controls the ability of the bladder to prop- erly store and empty urine. Evolving literature utilizing MRI technology, in- cluding functional MRI, has increased our understanding of the centers of brain control over bladder function. 4
4:00 pm – 5:15 pm 1.25 Contact Hours — ℞ 105: GENERAL SESSION Interstitial Cystitis/Painful Bladder Syndrome Update: Evaluation, Diagnosis, and Treatment Alis Panzera, DrNP, WHNP-BC, RN Interstitial cystitis is a condition that is often difficult to diagnose and is often mistaken for other dis- eases. This session will address how proper evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment can improve symptoms to provide a better quality of life for the patient. 8:00 pm – 9:00 pm 106: Networking Session 1 Contact Hour Challenging Urology Case Discussions Facilitated by Donna Thompson, MSN, CRNP, FNP-AP, CCCN-AP This session is an informal gathering of your peers to review and discuss challenging urology case studies. Participants are encouraged to bring and present a challenging case from their own daily prac- tice. Moderator guided discussion will follow, providing an opportunity to exchange different approaches and opinions. This session will bring together the wealth of knowledge in the urology advanced practice community, providing an invaluable opportunity for networking and professional growth. In addition, genetic testing for prostate cancer is becoming more widely available. This presentation will review the latest data on screening for prostate cancer and how to approach genetic testing for inherited prostate cancer risk. 9:25 am – 10:25 am 202: GENERAL SESSION 1 Contact Hour The Lifespan of the Neurogenic Bladder from Spina Bifida to Spinal Cord Injury Joy C. Kerr, CPNP, CRNFA Explore the causes of neurogenic bladder from congenital to acquired etiology and discuss the importance of an accurate diagnosis through correct imaging and diagnostic studies to ensure appropriate therapy and successful treatment outcomes. 5
10:25 am – 10:40 am Break 10:40 am – 11:40 am 203: GENERAL SESSION 1 Contact Hour Transition to Adulthood: Preparation, Planning, Process, and Patient Engagement Symne Trachdenberg, MSW; Adam Greenberg, MSN, CRNP For young people transitioning from pediatric care to adult care, there can be challenges in taking charge and advocating for their own health. Discussion in this session will include the proper time for transition of care, the transfer of medical records to a new care provider, the need of care providers to communicate effectively during the process, and the support that is necessary to address existing health needs, particularly those of a chronic disease or disability nature. 11:45 am – 12:45 pm 204: GENERAL SESSION 1 Contact Hour Primary and Secondary Incontinence Prevention Diane Newman, DNP, ANP-BC Bladder health is important for overall health and is influenced by internal and external factors. Pri- mary prevention can help promote healthy bladder habits, and education on normal bladder function and early treatment seeking for bladder conditions can be part of secondary prevention. This lecture will present current research on the area of bladder health and the role of urology nurses in education. 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm Certification Exam Preregistration is required. The Society of Urologic Nurses and Associates (SUNA) is accredited as a provider of con- tinuing nursing education by the American Nurses’ Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation The SUNA accreditation is reciprocal in the states and specialty organizations that rec- ognize the ANCC-COA accreditation process. SUNA is also a provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number CEP 5556. Accreditation and approved provider status of CE in nursing does not imply ANCC-COA approval or en- dorsement of any product, advertising, or educational content.
