Alaina 13y- “It was so amazing and fun!” Tuesday Disney is everyone's dream destination; it's a fantasy land where individuals who believe in magic may escape from the realities of life. People like Disney characters such as princesses, villains, mystical creatures, and so on. Our very own school, Cliffside, had "Disney Day" on the second day of spirit week, courtesy of the magic dust of those realities. Students dressed up as their favourite Disney characters (princesses, villains, etc.) and donned Mickey mouse and Minnie mouse ears, among other things, to symbolize their favourite Disney characters. Here are some photographs of students expressing their passion for their favourite Disney characters at our Cliffside spirit day. Marzia 13y - “I really liked Disney day because I am a huge Disney fan.”

WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS DAY April 2, 2022 Written by Farah & Takia, Room 2 (Edited by Helina) Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. Autism affects an estimated 1 in 44 children in the United States today. We interviewed Ms. Spadafora to find out about Autism Awareness Day Farah & Takia: What's your knowledge about autism? Ms. Spadafora: I am actually very knowledgeable about autism because I have first-hand experience, as my son has autism spectrum disorder. It is a communication disorder which is definitely a spectrum. No two autistic people are alike. They all demonstrate different strengths and challenges. Farah & Takia: If you witness an autistic person getting bullied, what would you do? Ms. Spadafora: I would definitely intervene and help to resolve the issue as best as I could, but equally important, I would take the time to educate the perpetrator about Autism Spectrum Disorder and what he/she could do to understand, demonstrate respect, and help the person with ASD. Farah & Takia: What would you have done to raise awareness for autism awareness day? Ms. Spadafora: I provided all staff members at Cliffside with online and hardcopy resources about Autism which they can then use to teach their classes as well as learn how to best accommodate students with ASD to whom they teach. I also worked with students to create announcements and a display case to educate our school community about autism, and to celebrate World Autism Day. Farah & Takia: Why do you think awareness is important for learning about autism? Ms. Spadafora: Autism awareness is immensely important because many people don’t quite understand what autism is and how to interact with those who have ASD. If we just take the time to learn about autism, we could learn how to better interact with those with it as well as celebrate their strengths and beauty in their uniqueness.
