                           PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

                           Happy Spring!

April is Earth Month! During this month, students will be thinking
about and doing all things GREEN. This is a time for us to reflect
upon our world and figure out ways in which we can all protect
Cliffside PS the environment. Whether it be walking to school instead of
27 East Haven Drive riding in a car, or bringing litterless lunches, every action we take
Toronto ON M1N 1M1 can make a difference. Remember the 3Rs: Reduce, Reuse,
Tel 416.396.6170 Recycle!

The month of April brings with it warmer (and sometimes wetter)
days. We will continue to go outside for recess and lunch rain or
SAFE ARRIVAL shine in order to allow students the opportunity for fresh air and
lots of physical exercise. Please make sure your child comes

Cliffside PS, along with all schools in the TDSB, will continue to be
Late or Half Day Absence mask-friendly. Students are permitted to wear masks at any point
416.396.6170 Press 1 during the day both inside and out. Our school has plenty of
disposable masks should students wish to exchange theirs
throughout the day. In addition, we have reusable ones
available. Please let your child’s teacher or the office know, and
we will be happy to assist.

For this month’s newsletter, you will notice many contributions
from Cliffside’s Journalist Team in both English and French! We
Principal had over 30 students in Grades 6-8 volunteer to take on
Andrea Chisholm assignments for our monthly newsletter. Different groups of
students will be assigned to complete a newsletter submission
Office Administrator similar to a real newspaper. We have editors, writers,
Michelina Adams interviewers, photographers, and sketch artists all contributing
their skills and talents throughout the month. Look carefully
Secretary throughout this newsletter to see which students assisted for
John Adams April’s edition!

Superintendent We look forward to another exciting month of learning here at
Liz Holder Cliffside PS. As always, we remind students to: Be Safe, Be
                           Responsible, and Be Respectful.

CLIFFSIDE CLEAN-UP CREW

SPRING CLEANING IS HERE!!!
The Cliffside Clean-Up Crew meets on Day 2 from 9:00am till 9:10am near Door
3. You will be greeted by Mr. Komendic, friends, and students as we clean up
the schoolyard. You should join the crew because you get to make the
schoolyard and the world a little cleaner, while making the space better to use
at recess and lunch. Not only that, you and your crew members get to use
claws for picking up trash and get to wear cool hats. The way that you can join
the crew is by showing up, no applications, no asking, just come at 9:00am and
help out. You don’t even have to come every time, you can come once in a
while or all the time - everything helps. When you do want to help out, let your
friends know maybe you guys can do it together, the more, the better.

préférées de différentes manières, telles que porter des maillots ou bien porter
les couleurs de leur équipe préférée. Voici quelques photos de nos élèves

WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS DAY
April 2, 2022
Written by Farah & Takia, Room 2 (Edited by Helina)

Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), refers to a broad range of
conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive
behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. Autism affects an
estimated 1 in 44 children in the United States today. We interviewed Ms.
Spadafora to find out about Autism Awareness Day

Farah & Takia: What's your knowledge about autism?
Ms. Spadafora: I am actually very knowledgeable about autism because
I have first-hand experience, as my son has autism spectrum disorder. It
is a communication disorder which is definitely a spectrum. No two
autistic people are alike. They all demonstrate different strengths and
challenges.

Farah & Takia: If you witness an autistic person getting bullied, what
would you do?
Ms. Spadafora: I would definitely intervene and help to resolve the issue
as best as I could, but equally important, I would take the time to
educate the perpetrator about Autism Spectrum Disorder and what
he/she could do to understand, demonstrate respect, and help the
person with ASD.

Farah & Takia: What would you have done to raise awareness for autism
awareness day?
Ms. Spadafora: I provided all staff members at Cliffside with online and
hardcopy resources about Autism which they can then use to teach their
classes as well as learn how to best accommodate students with ASD to
whom they teach. I also worked with students to create announcements
and a display case to educate our school community about autism, and
to celebrate World Autism Day.

Farah & Takia: Why do you think awareness is important for learning
about autism?
Ms. Spadafora: Autism awareness is immensely important because many
people don’t quite understand what autism is and how to interact with
those who have ASD. If we just take the time to learn about autism, we
could learn how to better interact with those with it as well as celebrate
their strengths and beauty in their uniqueness.
