2021 Parish Council Elections—Candidate Bios Over the past two weeks, we have run biographies of candidates to be considered by you, our Parishioners, to fill three At-Large seats on the Parish Council. Two seats have a term of three years and the third seat a term of two years (to fill a vacancy). The top three candidates will be elected to the Council with the third place candidate to fill the vacancy that has two years remaining. Elections will be held the weekend of April 24th and 25th. Ballot boxes will be located in the vestibule of the Church and outside the Holy Family Chapel, with ballots available before and after each Mass. (Please see page 8 of the bulletin for a ballot for your use.) John Albrecht Especially during the Easter season, we hear in Acts of the Apostles how members of the early church dedicated themselves to serving God through serving one another and the larger community. As a parish council member, I hope to serve the members of Saints Peter and Paul by learning the needs of the many people and ministries present in our parish and facilitating coopera- tion within our very active faith community. Saints Peter and Paul is my home parish. This is where I was baptized, had my first Confession, received First Communion, and was Confirmed. In 2007, I left for Marquette University where I studied Accounting and Theater Tech. For five years after graduation, I lived in two intentional lay communities in Chicago working in marketing and technology at a Catholic grade school. I was active in my local parish as a catechist for First Communion and a reader at Mass. My time in these communities in Chicago taught me the importance of commitment to faith in the presence of a dynam- ic community both at home and in parish life. Since returning to Saints Peter and Paul, I have made my home here, serving as an active member of Fishers of Men, the SSPP Young Adults Core Team, and Catholic Sports. I am committed to a weekly Holy Hour in the St. Francis Adoration Chapel, read regularly for Mass, and host a weekly men's Bible Study. Whether we have known each other since childhood, share in one of the ministries here, met after Mass only recently, or we have yet to meet, I hope you will let me serve you as an at-large member of the parish council. Thank you for your vote! John Bonato My name is John Bonato and I am looking to serve Saints Peter & Paul as a member of the Parish Council. I grew up in Calumet City, Illinois and attended Catholic school throughout my entire life. From St. Andrew the Apostle Grade School/Parish to Mari- an Catholic High School to eventually graduating from DePaul University with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting. My Catholic faith is incredibly important to my family and me, as I have always strived to serve the church. My wife, Caitlin, and I became parishioners at Saints Peter & Paul Parish in mid-2019. We have a son, Ronald, and we are expecting a daughter in mid-April. I work as a Treasury Manager at IDEX Corporation and am a member of the Knights of Columbus here at SSPP. I would be honored and humbled to be given the chance to serve in this role. Have a wonderful Easter season and God Bless. Tom Gavin When, after many thoughtful discussions and prayers for guidance, in 1983 my wife, Elaine and I decided we should move away from our families in suburban Detroit to accept a new employment opportunity in Naperville. We had three children, Anne, Tim and Susan. Our youngest, David, was born two years later at Edward Hospital. All are now grown and married and we are blessed with eight lovely grandchildren, all of whom live within twenty minutes of our home. I was originally a member of St Margaret Mary Parish when we first moved to Naperville, where I served as a lector and extraordinary eucharistic minister. I also served on the parish finance committee and the parish council where I was its president for several years. After a move to a new home in Naperville, I joined Saints Peter and Paul Parish in 2003. I love our beautiful church, our active, generous and kind parishioners and of course, our faithful, hardworking and encouraging clergy. There is so much going on in our very large par- ish with so many activities to become involved in. It’s easy to meet fellow parishioners that you might not otherwise have ever met and to have experiences you might never experience by volunteering. After 18 years at SSPP I am still amazed at how diverse our parish activities are and how frequently I discover things happening that I never knew before. I am greatly fulfilled by volunteering at our vibrant parish. While at Saints Peter and Paul I have been a lector and an EME. I’ve also volunteered to serve on the Christian Worship Commission, the Christian Service Commission as its chair and the Administration Commission (Finance) also as its chair for a number of years. As chair of the commissions, I was ex officio member of the Parish Council. I also served as an at-large member and its president for two terms. I am seeking to become an at-large member of Parish Council because I very much enjoy serving our parish and helping to advise on its direction. I believe my experience with many of our commissions, as well as my career in finance will be helpful as the parish confronts the issues associated with coming out of the pandemic and moves toward a hopeful future. 2021 Parish Council Elections—Candidate Bios (continued) Sam Entile I am a full-time marketing professional in the financial industry and also hold a Masters Degree in Theology from Franciscan University. My journey at Saints Peter & Paul began in 2000 upon moving to Naperville. My prayer for Saints Peter & Paul, as well as the universal Church, is for orthodoxy to permeate all facets of the life of faith. From the liturgy to home life, my hope is for a Church that is Christocentric, Marian, attentive to sacred teaching, and always serious about the faith, unafraid to shine the light of truth. Donna Pelletier My name is Donna Pelletier and I would be both delighted and honored to serve on the Saints Peter and Paul Parish Counsel. I was baptized at Saints Peter and Paul Church. Many years later, in 2015, after a 27-year career in relationship management, quality assurance and advocacy work, I returned to Saints Peter and Paul Parish, along with my husband Tom of 40 years. We have 5 children and 2 granddaughters. Although baptized as an infant into the catholic church, my faith awakening really began when I became a parent. I was thirsty for additional knowledge of our rich and beautiful religion, which led to a lot of spiritual reading, going on pilgrimages, as well as years of spiritual direction. Ultimately, I found myself anew when I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, which lead me to the beautiful experience of consecration to The Sacred Heart of Jesus, The Blessed Mother and Saint Joseph. Through surrender, prayer and healing I found myself “on fire” for our faith. I served a few parish communi- ties as a religious education instructor, parish retreat coordinator and parish cancer support group facilitator. I have also coordi- nated and led the Marian Consecration Retreat Program; “33 Days to Morning Glory”, bringing many parishioners closer to Jesus through Mary. In 2020, I began a dial-in ministry for The Rosary of the Seven Sorrows, which continues today. Outside of my faith life, I cherish time with family and friends. I enjoy cooking, travel and music and I am currently attempting the bass guitar! I find peace in nature working in my garden, and one of my favorite relaxing things to do is to enjoy a glass of wine with a good read. We are living in challenging times and I like to put everything into perspective with the motto: Faith over Fear! I appreciate both your consideration and your vote for the Parish Counsel. God Bless you. Bob Schuhriemen Learning more about your faith, including a more in-depth knowledge of the Scriptures, can enliven your faith, help you draw more meaning from the Mass and sacraments, and enable you to give greater glory to God. As a member of the Parish Council, I hope to further evangelization and religious education at Saints Peter and Paul. Whether you are new to the Parish or some- one who has been a part for decades, strengthening your faith is something we can all get excited about. Creating more oppor- tunities for parishioners to meet and build up each other is also something I would like to foster as part of the Parish Council. I, my wife, Theresa, and our six children have been members of Saints Peter and Paul since 1997. I am currently active in PADS, which provides meals for the homeless; Edward Hospital, where I distribute Communion to the sick; assist with Hands in Prayer, a ministry to foster praying for our parish priests; and participate in Fishers of Men (if you haven't checked out Fishers of Men, you should. You will be glad you did.). I hold a Masters in Divinity with an emphasis in Scripture from Mt. St. Mary's Universi- ty. Thanks for considering me. Jim Walsh I am Jim Walsh and I would like to be of service to you as an At-Large member of the Saints Peter and Paul Parish Council. My wife Mary and I moved from the south suburbs to Naperville in 2010. We have two children—our son, Jimmy, who is a senior at NCHS and our daughter, Claire, who is in eighth grade at SSPP. During our time at Saints Peter and Paul, I have volunteered with our Cub Scout Pack 506 as a den leader and pack leader. I am a member of the Knights of Columbus #1369 and a found- ing member of the Fishers of Men group. I currently work in publishing as the Executive Sales Director. I enjoy living a life of service to others and I believe my experiences coupled with my skills and abilities have prepared me to provide assistance to our Pastor and Priests and provide sound guidance to our various parish and school commissions. I feel called to assist and it would be my honor to serve you and the parish. Saints Peter and Paul Church • April 18, 2021 • sspeterandpaul.net 7
