ANZAC day is a day when Australians and New Zealanders remember and honour those who fought and died for freedom. We gather not to glorify war but to remember those who have served our country during times of crisis and to reflect upon their selfless sacrifice. Conscious that there are many men and women around the world still working for peace, we hold fast to the powerful hope that peace can exist today.
We remember and honour the service and sacrifice of Australia’s servicemen and women in World War One and in all other wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. We remember them, as they offered their bodies, minds, heats and spirits in fighting for a better world. All: Amen
O God, You have shown that peacemakers are your children. Grant to us, we pray that we can work together to live in a world with justice which will bring us true and lasting peace. Through Jesus Christ Our Lord All: Amen
A reading for the Gospel of John As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love… This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. The Gospel of the Lord All: Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ
. Ode of Remembrance They shall grow not old As we that are left grow old, Age shall not weary them Nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun And in the morning We will remember them All: Lest we forget
The Last Post: This is played on the bugle. It is an old Australian tradition dating back to the 18th century. At this call the guard was placed around the fort or barracks. Please stand for the Last Post followed by a minute’s silence.
Let us pause in silence for 1 minute. Our silence offers a time to reflect on the significance of ANZAC day. It is a sign of respect for all those who have died in war. The Rouse
Loving God, We have stopped to remember those who died in war. We pray for all who demonstrated love and peace in our world and have worked to continue to keep our countries safe. May we learn from the past and strive to spread the message of Jesus’ love throughout the earth. We ask for the gift of peace, through Jesus Christ Amen In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit Amen
Abide With Me is a traditional hymn sung at ANZAC day services.
Abide with me, fast falls the eventide Where is death's sting? The darkness deepens Lord, with me abide Where, grave, thy victory? When other helpers fail and comforts flee I triumph still, if Thou abide with me Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies Earth's joys grow dim, its glories pass away Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee Change and decay in all around I see In life, in death, o Lord, abide with me O Thou who changest not, abide with me Abide with me, abide with me I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still, if Thou abide with me Source: LyricFind Songwriters: Henry Francis Lyte / Will Henry Monk Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes Abide with Me lyrics © Peermusic Publishing, Universal Music Publishing Group, Shine through the gloom and point me to the Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC, Kobalt Music Publishing Ltd. skies Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee In life, in death, o Lord, abide with me Abide with me, abide with me
