Have a question about the PCA or how to utilize your membership? ASK THE CLUB We asked members to share their questions with us about the Club. I’m hosting an event at the club. Can I bring in my own wine? The PCA does not hold a package license, which means we cannot let people leave our building with alcohol. If you wish to bring a bottle that will be consumed during an event, that’s ok, but you can’t leave with a bottle unless it has been opened and re-corked for a fee by our staff. The rules are laid out in the PCA Catering Policy: Alcohol Regulations - All sales and service of alcoholic beverages are regulated by the State of Alaska Alcohol & Marijuana Control Office. The Petroleum Club of Anchorage is responsible for the regulation of these laws within the PCA. Therefore, it is Club policy that any alcoholic beverage cannot be brought into the Club from outside sources. Any exception of this policy must have prior approval from the PCA Special Events & Catering Coordinator. Any Wine brought into the PCA cannot leave the premises without first being opened and re-corked. No wine can be brought in to be auctioned, sold, or given away unless it is to be consumed at the Club. Do you have a question about the PCA? We want to hear from you! Fill out an Ask the Club card next time you visit or email your questions to Sheri Underwood, General Manager at gm@petroclub.net, Tracy Dumas, Communications at marketing@petroclub.net or Jessica Thomas, Events Coordinator at events@petroclub.net. Petroleum Club of Lafayette Traveling to Louisiana for Mardi Gras? Make time in your schedule to visit the Petroleum Club of Lafayette. Two hours outside of New Orleans, you’ll find a gem of a club brimming with Southern Charm. The PCL began when oil companies started moving into the region back in 1952. At that time, a small group of oil workers expressed interest in building a place for relaxing, socializing, and discussing mutual issues after work. The group approached local land-owner and businessman Mr. Maurice Heymann with their idea. Mr. Heymann agreed to donate his land if the men would create a legal corporation and build the club themselves. They did so by forming a Southern Building Company for the purpose of selling stock. In a matter of months, they met their goal, which was to sell 200 shares at $200 per share. In April of 1953, the Petroleum Club of Lafayette was born. The PCL kept pace with the growing oil industry and it soon became the largest Petroleum Club in the world. In the 1980s the club extended its membership to folks outside of the oil and gas industry, along with women, who were not granted membership until 1986. Despite changes in membership, many club traditions have stayed the same over the years. Each morning, several members gather over coffee and biscuits to discuss business, politics, sports, hunting, and so on. PCL is also a regular gathering place for Oil Society Meetings. The club additionally hosts a weekly dinner dance on Friday nights, a regular Bingo Night, and a Sunday Lunch Buffet with favorite local dishes such as Crawfish Etouffee, Fresh Oysters, Crab Cakes, Smoked Brisket and more. Outstanding food and service have earned the PCL an unmatched reputation in the region. In February, join them for Valentine’s Day Dinner, a Lobster Night, or Wine & Dine Wednesday. However, the PCL will be closed in celebration of Mardi Gras on February 25th. So, spend some time at the Petroleum Club in TO LEARN MORE ABOUT RECIPROCAL CLUBS VISIT Lafayette and then head to New Orleans for Mardi Gras fun this month. Thursday Night Sponsors Whether you work for a small business, a large company, or even yourself, at one point or another, you may have considered being a sponsor. At the PCA we have several opportunities for sponsorship throughout the year, from Thursday Night Networking Events to Football Nights to the Annual Golf Tournament. What can you gain from jumping aboard the sponsor-ship (pun intended)? According to marketing experts, plenty. 1. Lead Generation/Brand Awareness – Hosting 5. Blocking the Competition – If your competitors a sponsor event brings new attention to your haven’t hosted a sponsor event, then your business. While giving away swag with your company, being the first to do so, gives your company logo is one way to draw attention, brand the advantage of establishing your consider hosting a sponsor event by creating an presence as the go-to source in the market. experience. Maybe it’s a give-away for a small prize or a service offered by your company by having people drop their business card in a jar. In return, you get to keep their names as future contacts. Or, you could set up a photo booth with your company’s logo as the backdrop so attendees can have a souvenir of the event. You could even have a foosball table set up or a blind wine tasting to keep a prospective customer around for longer conversation. 2. That brings us to the next component – Human Connection. Hosting a sponsor event has a much greater impact on a customer than what they’d get by just exploring your website because you are engaging in face-to-face conversation, making yourself available to answer questions specific to that potential client’s needs. Therefore, you’re more likely to get a return on your investment (ROI). 3. ROI – While the number varies, consider this: even if only 5 people who attended your sponsor event become customers, if their business each generates a few thousand dollars for your company, then together that number will increase your company’s revenue. And if you impress these new customers enough, then Make 2020 the year you grow your business they’ll share your brand with others and so on and connect with your fellow members and their and so on. colleagues by hosting a sponsor event at the PCA. 4.
