News/Kyoto Commitment Kyoji Sassa Announcement of 2018 ICL-IPL Conference in Kyoto, Japan -Planning of the Fifth World Landslide Forum (WLF5) and the Kyoto 2020 Commitment (KC2020)- Date: 1-2 December 2018 Venue: Room 665 and Room 501 in the Kyoto International Conference Center (KICC) Date: 3-4 December 2018 Venue: Large Seminar Room (R301) in the Collaborative Research Hub of the Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI), Kyoto University(KU) Outline programme: 1st December 2018 (Sat): Steering Committee meeting for ICL and IPL strategy for WLF5 and KC2020 with investigation of conference facilities in KICC. nd 2 December (Sun): Organization Committee meeting of the Fifth World Landslide Forum in Kyoto, 2020 in KICC rd 3 December 2018 (Mon.): 2018 IPL Symposium on Landslides in DPRI-KU 4th December 2018 (Tue.): 18th Session of the Board of Representatives of ICL (BOR/ICL), 14th Session of the Global Promotion Committee of IPL(GPC/IPL), the Council meeting of the IPL World Centre and the foundation of ICL-National Networks in DPRI-KU. Evening: Reception in Kihada Restaurant in Kyoto University, Uji Campus Programme for Each Meeting: 1. Steering Committee meeting (10:00-17:00 on 1 December 2018) Preliminary discussion and examination of all matters which need careful examination for effective discussion in WLF5 organizing Committee and BOR/ICL and GPC/IPL. A strategy for WLF5 and KC2020 will be discussed. 2. Organization Committee meeting of WLF5 (9:00-17:00 on 2 December 2018) Fig.1 presents the schedule of WLF5 (Sassa 2018b and WLF5 WEB ) 1) Thematic issue of Landslides “ISDR-ICL Sendai Partnerships 2015-2025” will be published in October 2020. This issue may be accessed and downloaded free of charge from 15 October to 15 November 2020. Papers to the thematic issue will be accepted in the Editorial Manager of Landslides from October 2018 to December 2019. Editorial manager: 2) Seven themes, their coordinators (as below), and session within each theme were decided in the WLF5 1
News/Kyoto Commitment organizing Committee meeting during 2017 ICL-IPL Conference on 29 November to 1 December 2017. The progress of session organizations will be reported by each coordinator. Addition and revision of sessions will be examined. Sessions are reported in Sassa 2018b and WLF5 WEB http://wlf5.iplhq.org/. New IPL project proposals. One of the proposers of new IPL project is required to orally present in the symposium for the evaluation of GPC/IPL members. Ongoing IPL projects will be decided at 14th Session of (GPC/IPL) on 4 December 2018. Proposers will be requested to submit the proposal form by 1 September 2018 to ICL Network . All proposal forms will be passed to the IPL Evaluation Committee for technical evaluation. Project proposal forms will not be included in the CD proceedings. 2. Activity reports of ongoing WCoEs and ongoing IPL projects 3. Reports of recent landslides and other research activities will be reported by ICL members, ICL associates and ICL supporters. CD proceedings of 2018 ICL-IPL Conference includes the submitted full papers (4-8 pages) and also the submitted PPT (16 slides in 8 pages). CD-proceedings is published by ICL with ISBN number. The deadline of submission of full papers and PPT is 30 October 2018. 4. 18th Session of the BOR/ICL and 14th Session of the GPC/IPL 3

The Council meeting of the IPL World Centre and the foundation of ICL-Japan, ICL-Italy and other national networks (16:00 -18:00 on 4 December 2018) The IPL World Centre (IWC) serves as the secretariat of the IPL and the GPC/IPL. The Council Members of IWC consists of advisors from Japanese authorities (Cabinet office, three ministries and Kyoto University), ICL senior advisor, IPL adviser, Chairs of IPL/GPC, ICL president and vice presidents for Europe and America, Executive director, Secretary-General, and representatives of ICL Japanese members. GPC/IPL will report their past activities and future plans to the Council members. The regulation of IWC will be modified to include the activities to support ICL-National networks to collaborate to promote the Kyoto 2020 Commitment. The plan of ICL-Japan, ICL-Italy and other ICL networks are being evaluated, and their establishment will be authorized with approvals from all members of the BOR/ICL, the GPC/IPL and the Council Members of IWC.
