That being said, the fame and accolades is something he’s still getting used to. “At first, it was weird and shocking, but now I’m humbled by it,” he said. “Each time that someone says, “Hey, are you John Holiday?” it makes me feel good, and what I hope it means is that I’m doing something right.” In light of all the praise, Holiday is still honest. “Just as with most careers, some people will like you and some will not. I am not, by any means, oblivious to that. It is a big rule of mine to not read reviews,” he said, of how he handles the negative ones. “What I know for sure is that when one allows others to validate oneself, it gives others power over the journey, and I’ve decided to keep my power.” He pauses to remember the line from the poem “Invictus” by William Ernest Henley. “No matter how strait the gate, how charged with punishments the scroll.
