TWO PARKS ONE DESTINATION EXPLORE THE INDIANA DUNES NATIONAL & STATE PARKS The Indiana Dunes is made up of both a National Park and a State Park, and each park has its own fee. On March 31, 2022, the National Park Service implemented an entrance fee for the Indiana Dunes National Park. National Park passes can be purchased at the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center, Paul H. Douglas Center, West Beach gatehouse (seasonally), and online (recreation.gov). Separate passes are needed for the Indiana Dunes State Park and can be purchased at the Indiana Dunes State Park gatehouse. For discounts and special passes, check online. On February 15, 2019, Indiana was given its first national park! After 53 years as the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, this area was renamed the Indiana Dunes National Park. It’s no surprise considering the park sees nearly as many visitors a year as Mount Rushmore. Also, the park’s biodiversity ranks fifth out of all 400-plus National Park Service protected lands.
