ABOUT Chosen as one of the “Top 10 Urban Escapes” by National Geographic, the 61st National Park is a series of sites along the southern shore of Lake THE Michigan, which includes 15 miles of beaches, more than 50 miles of trails, dunes, bogs, historic sites, NATIONAL camping, and more. On February 15, 2019, Indiana was given its first national park! After 53 years as the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, this area was renamed the Indiana Dunes National Park. It’s no surprise considering the park sees nearly as many visitors a year as Mount Rushmore. Also, the park’s biodiversity ranks fifth out of all 400-plus National Park Service protected lands.
