Welcome to Houston and ANG’S 47 TH ANNUAL SEMINAR Deep in the Heart of Stitchin’ W e are so happy you are here to enjoy our Houston hospitality. Lone Star is the lead chapter helped by our sister chapters in the Houston area: Bay Area Stitchers, Lake Houston, Piney Pointers and Needlepointers of the Woodlands. We have all had a great time putting the local part of this Seminar together. Special thank you to Carol Moody, designer and stitcher of our logo piece; Michele Roberts for designing the Teacher and Participant Nametags, the Specialty Ribbon Centers and the Texas Star Ornament; Dr. Cynthia Rigoni, Exhibit Chair; Laura Mergens, Shipment Coordinator, and our Hospitality Chairs Margaret Painchaud and Laura Smith. The other members of our organizing committee are: Susan Allen, Denise Fischer, Barbara Gessner, Leticia Jaroski, and Dr. Linda Walker. A big thank you to the over 50 members who worked on nametags, ribbons, stuffing Toros and all the other things that go into hosting Seminar. Be sure to stop by the Hospitality Desk for ideas on shopping and restaurants in Houston. While our seminar is going on it is Houston Restaurant Weeks. This is a chance to try some of our best restaurants with moderately priced three or four course meals and a portion of the price benefiting the Houston Food Bank. We have five wonderful needlepoint shops in Houston proper and the Hospitality Desk can help you with directions to all of them. We hope you enjoy your visit to Deep in the Heart of Stitchin’. L I F E PAT R O N Seminar Life Patron Luncheon Guest Speaker S herri Cooley, current Chairman of the Presidents’ Skirt Committee and past president of Lone Star ANG, will present at this year’s Life Patron Luncheon. Sherri is a current member of ANG and past president of the Lone Star Chapter in Houston. She has participated in that chapter’s creation AUGUST 6 –10, 2020 of 21 chair seats for the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center (1999) as well as the reproduction of the rug at Rienzi Museum www.needlepoint.org in Houston (2004). Each year Junior Forum members make a unique skirt adorned with heavily beaded appliqués for the president to wear to the annual fundraiser and other special events. Originally conceived in 1948, the earliest skirts had a “Fiesta” theme and were fashioned after brightly patterned Mexican skirts. Over the years the themes of the skirts have evolved to a theme favored by the president, or reflecting American, Texas, or Houston history. The invitation only luncheon will include a collection of the skirts THE WESTIN LA PALOMA with a brief history and a short style show. TUCSON, AZ ANG Seminar 2019 Participant’s Handbook 21
