VILLAGE OF TARRYTOWN DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS Household garbage must be placed curbside in front of your residence no earlier than 6:00 p.m. the evening before your scheduled collection day and no later than 7:00 a.m. the day of your collection. The village will collect from residential private dwellings the equivalent of two thirty-two-gallon containers per family each collection day. Garbage must be placed curbside in the Village issued cart or container in a location that is easily accessible. Garbage containers have been issued to all residents. Additional containers are available through Village Hall at a rental cost of $156.00/year. VILLAGE OF TARRYTOWN DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS Recycables that are placed at curbside for collection must be placed loosely in a clearly marked container for recyclables. 26-Gallon Recycling Bins are available for purchase at Village Hall at $15.00 each. Lids are an additional $3.00 each. Recycling container must be placed curbside no later than 7:00 a.m. on the day of your scheduled collection (Wednesday’s for residential households). Plastic bags containing recyclable items will not be collected. Recyclable items placed together with non-recyclable materials will not be collected. Household garbage placed for collection containing recyclable items will not be taken.

WATER The Village of Tarrytown operates its own Water System. You can view the Annual Water Quality Reports on the DPW webpage. If you experience low pressure or discolored water, please call (914) 631-0356. Discolored water usually occurs when there is a water main break or during fire hydrant usage. In case of discolored water, please run your water for 10-15 minutes. STREET LIGHTS To report a streetlight that is out of order, please call DPW at (914) 631-0356 and give the Pole Number (W# or NYT#) and the address of the light that is not working. LEAF COLLECTION See the following Leaf Collection Schedule and Guidelines SIDEWALK REPLACEMENT PROGRAM Residents may have their sidewalk replaced under the sidewalk replacement policy section 259-56 of the Code of the Village. The resident reimburses the Village of Tarrytown for the materials required to complete the installation of new sidewalk. The Village will provide the labor to perform this work at no cost to the property owner. SNOW REMOVAL The village will deploy salters and plows to keep the roads safe and clear of ice and snow. In certain instances, DPW will apply a brine coating to the roads to prevent an ice bond to the road. Please do not plow snow onto the street. Property owners are responsible for the removal of snow and ice from sidewalks contiguous to their property. Please read Village Code below: § 259-37 (SNOW) Removal by owner or occupant required. A. The owner or occupant of any premises shall cause the contiguous sidewalks and, in the case of multifamily dwellings, all driveways and access and exit roads on the premises to be cleared of snow and ice within 18 hours after such snowfall shall have ceased or ice shall have formed, except in the case of properties in the Restricted Retail Zoning Districts and the Neighborhood Shopping Zoning Districts in the Village, which shall have the snow and ice removed at all times between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. B. Where snow has melted and shall be frozen or where there has been an ice storm and the contiguous sidewalks shall be frozen, the ice shall be removed within two hours. The two hour period shall not apply between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. Should the snow have melted and shall be frozen or where there has been an ice storm and the contiguous sidewalk shall be frozen during the period from 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., the snow and ice shall be removed by 7:00 a.m. If the melted snow and ice shall be frozen to a degree that it cannot be removed within said period by customary means, the owner or occupant of the abutting premises shall cause salt, sand, ashes, sawdust or other suitable material to be strewn upon the sidewalks, driveways and access and exit roads within the said period. The said sidewalk shall as soon thereafter as weather conditions permit be thoroughly cleared of snow and ice.
