2021 ROBA Annual Meeting Update All ROBA Members, With all of the uncertainty of COVID-19 and where we might be come March of 2021, the board is wanting to wait until early fall to de- cide a location, and timing, of our Annual meeting. The ROBA board will try to have a decision out to membership by October 15, 2020. Thanks for your understanding on this matter.
ROBA Rules Update Do I need a Exhibitor License to Display? ROBA has now added a “Link” on the new website that will take you to the USDA APHIS “Gray Book Licensing and Regulation Guide” . You will need to do the following to get to the section, that deals with Licensing Information. * Click on the “link” provided under ANIMAL WELFARE. *Choose ”Regulated Businesses”—Licensing and registration *Launch Licensing and Registration assistant. This will take You to the Gray Book. *Many of these regulations only apply to dogs and cats. Please pay atten- tion to Page 16-Domesticated Farm Animal Exhibits. *If your exhibit has a reference to Agriculture (tree farm, pumpkin patch or if you have a real sleigh by your exhibit, then YOU DO NOT NEED A LI- CENSE. *IF, you do displays for stores, cities, municipalities, etc.. You will need a license if you don’t have a real sleigh with you. Being Licensed can provide some level of protection for your business—if any negative perceptions of your reindeer business and displays arise. If you further questions, you can call or email- Tanya Tims– USDA APHIS Tanya.a.tims@usda.gov 913-638-1934. Thanks to Daryl Simon for taking the time to call and get info. ROBA REINDEER MANUAL Spot Light topics The following topics are covered in the ROBA Manual. I will start briefly hitting on some of these topics in the newsletters. Please reference the manual or your Vet. For more information. DEPO– Provera– or DEPO for short—Medroxyprogesterone. Has been used by Reindeer owners to calm male reindeer during rut. This is administered at the onset of rut, late August/early September. There are many factors in determining dose amounts and frequency of doses. You can find more information in the Reindeer manual or as with all medicines please con- sult your Vet. Prior to administering Castration- Two methods Open Or Closed 1) Open Castration– Is done by cutting the scrotal sac and removing the Testes. If done properly will not harm the Bull’s health. Will need to treat wound and watch for infection and flies The complete 4 step process is outlined in the ROBA Manual and also please consult your Vet. 2) Closed Castration- This procedure is preformed by using one of many types of plier like tools to crush the vessels, nerves, and vas deferens and prohibit the passage of material to the testes. Eventually, the testes will wither and die. This method is effective when don accu- rately, but room for error exists if tool is placed or used incorrectly,

PROBIOTICS DURING CALVING FASTRACK FOR REINDEER Probiotics are great to have have our reindeer, but not all probiotics are the same. The Fastrack line of products are superior to any other probi- otics on the market. Fastrack products are all natural probiotics & prebiotics ( food for the probiotics to flurish). JUMPSTART ULTRA GEL is a top seller especially during calving season. Dosage is 5 ml per calf. Each 5 ml serving as minimum of 5 billion colony forming units for the good bacterias. It also has antibodies against cor- novirus, rotovirus, colostridial C & D, Ecoli and Salmonelia, to name a few. The gel is made with all natural ingedients. JUMPSTART ULTRA GEL is also great for an adult with digestive issues. It will normalize the PH, and help get rid of the bad bacterias. Anytime you give an antibiotic you should be giving a probiotic to replenish the good bacteria in the gut. FASTRACK MICROBIAL PACK is a granular mixture of our probiotics and prebiotics that are top dressed on the animals grain. Available in 5# and 50# bags Support your reindeer immune system with Fastrack products. For more information or to order Call or email Carol Borton 269-491-8507 reindeerranch@sbcglobal.n
Note From Doug I hope this finds everyone doing well and still being patient with the Covid-19 issues that are still affecting our lives. In this issue I started a topic on Waterers, types, brands, users. I hope this is helpful. In fu- ture issues I will look at topics of Food/types—Vitamins/Minerals— Vaccinations– Handling chutes/pens– If you have any items please send me your ideas. Stay safe/Stay Healthy Thanks again– God Bless Doug CFR UPDATE/ REGULATION WATCH With the country in the social distancing mode—There is nothing to re- port on the CFR or regulations front. I Did call my USDA Inspector and had a good conversation with her, and told her what I was wanting to do with the updates to the group. She too , said nothing has move forward since first of the year. But she will help me watch as things get going again. If anyone hears of things at your state level please contact a board member so we can research and make calls. Sincerely , Doug
