Hello, & welcome to Algoma University! Congratulations on starting your journey at Algoma University! We are so excited to have you with us for the Fall 2021 Semester! We understand that the first few weeks of university can be both exciting and challenging. To help ease this transition, we have designed a series of sessions and events to help you start off on the right foot. Fall 2021 Orientation will begin MONDAY, AUGUST 30th and will conclude on SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 11th! To help you stay up to date on what's happening we have created a schedule of events that includes all 3 campuses (check out a virtual offering at any other campus if you like!) We also reccommed that you follow us on Instagram @algomau and @algomaustudentlife so you don't miss a thing!

Monday, Aug. 30th AUSU 101 AU SU EV When: 10:00 am EST EN T Where: Zoom Description: Get to know your Student Union and those who represent you, the students. Learn about all the services AUSU offers, and ask questions. Tuesday, Aug. 31st Ask Algoma When: 9:00 -10:00 am EST Where: Zoom Description: Do you have a question about Algoma University and aren't sure who to ask? Join us for Ask Algoma! Health and Wellness Fair AUS U EV ENT When: 10:00 am-12 pm EST Where: Zoom Description: AUSU is hosting a community wellness fair to highlight and showcase wellness resources, supports, programs, and initiatives within our communities of Brampton, Timmins, and Sault Ste. Marie. In addition, wellness resources and programming provided by Algoma U and AUSU will be highlighted as well. Link To Join: Health and Wellness Fair University Basics When: 11:00 am-12 pm EST Where: Zoom Description: This session covers basic things that all new students need to know about courses, the academic calendar, student portal, and academic supports. We will also spend some time talking about mindset and the role it plays in students being successful (hint:it plays a HUGE role!). Wednesday, Sept. 1st Health Plan Information Session AUS U EV ENT When: 10:00 am -12:00 pm EST Where: Zoom Description: Tune in to this information session to learn all about your UHIP & Student VIP Extended Health Insurance, when to use which service, how you can access services, make claims, Opt-out and ask questions. Managing Stress @ University When: 2:00 pm EST Where: Zoom Description: Transitioning to university can be stressful, and it's important to learn to manage that stress so it does not become overwhelming. This session will look at the main stressors experienced by students, general understanding of mental health and some resources and tools to access. Timmins Campus Orientation When: 6-7:30 pm (followed by course specific sessions) Where: Google Meet Description: Students on the Timminis campus are invited to review the Traning Course found in Moodle and join us to ask any questions you may have! Thursday, Sept. 2nd Algoma U Email: What? But I Like Mine Better! When: 10:00 - 11:00 am EST Where: Zoom Description: Learn about how and why you should access your algomau.ca email, some quick navigation tips and what to do if you have an issue. Learning Stratigies Simplified When: 11:00 am-12:00 pm EST Where: Zoom Description: Being a student is hard, but there are ways to make yourself more effective and efficient and those are called learning strategies. Thursday, Sept. 2nd Computer Science Meet and Greet When: 1:30-2:30 pm EST Where: Zoom Description: Are you a computer Science Student? Queer 101 When: 11:00 am-12:00 pm EST Where: Zoom Description: Queer 101 is an inclusive safe space for open dialogue and learning virtually through zoom. ALL are WELCOME. Interested in knowing more about Queer*/Trans* folks? Then this is the place for you. Build consciousness and allyship, through education and open dialogue. Join us for an exploration of privilege, history and what can be done to create change and develop inclusiveness. A safer space to ask questions and gain understanding. Saturday, Sept. 4th Residence Move In When : 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Where: Residedence Quad Description: Staff will be on site to welcome you starting at 8 am. Need a hand with your luggage? Let us know! The Housing & Residence Life Staff will be on site to lend a hand! Please remember to limit the number of family and friends supporting your move to a maximum of 2 people. Brampton Farmers Market When : 9:00 am - 1:00 pm Where: 2 Wellington Street W, Brampton, ON Description: The City of Brampton is celebrating 35 years as the operator of the Brampton Farmers’ Market! We look forward to seeing you on Saturdays from 8am to 1pm starting June 19 until October 23. Free parking is available in the underground lot at City Hall. Students will review professional expectations in the field placement context, and the roles of the faculty, staff, and director who are a part of the field education team.
