Foreword by the founders In the beginning we asked ourselves, what type of learning experiences should children have? We imagined a place where they had time and space, both indoors and out, with opportunities to connect to the natural world. We wanted children’s imagination and creativity to flourish. Big natural spaces would be vital for them to take part in adventures, challenge themselves, take risks and develop their inquisitive minds. We pictured a place where there was a synergy between the indoor and outdoor spaces. Indoors children would learn in a calm and beautiful environment, with carefully considered resources, aided by considered loving adults. We knew the outdoor space must be as considered as the indoors and the children needed to have a sense of the near, the far and the great Ben Walliman outdoors. From this vision, Children’s Nature Nurseries and the Kids Love Nature approach was born. We want to share it with you. The Kids Love Nature Approach: The Kids Love Nature approach to early education has been developed through the collective experiences of the Founders and continues to evolve through ongoing dialogue with our teachers, parents, the local community and wider professionals and through observations of children’s learning and interactions within our considered spaces. The main influences that have formulated the approach include Scandinavian Forest Kindergartens, Montessori and Reggio Emilia. Everything we do is child centred and fosters independence, a child’s ability to make choices and lead their own learning, to take risks and solve problems, develop confidence, enable rapid language development, form strong social bonds and become emotionally secure. All these learning experi- ences are supported by considered adults who ensure that all children flourish in our innovative nurseries. “I can't thank you enough for the time you have taken with her and in turn how much I have learnt as a parent” (S.B) Prospectus Lymington 2014-2015. “We are so glad that we were lucky enough to find the best school, with the best teachers in the world, thank you” (E.Z) Children’s Nature Nursery at Lymington Children’s Nature Nursery at Lymington is situated just outside the beautiful, coastal town of Lyming- ton, Hampshire. This picturesque nursery combines a beautiful classroom, a kitchen, a delightful garden area and its own organic children’s farm, complete with pygmy goats and chickens! Children’s Nursery at Lymington also has its own area of woodland. Each and every day, children’s learning flow between the classroom and garden. From careful obser- vations, the adults sensitively support, nurture and guide children. In the farm and garden children grow vegetables from seed, collaborate to create sandy masterpieces in the supersized sandpit and engage in big scale construction. Water play and endless creative projects also help develop their inquisitive minds. Indoors, children’s creativity continue to flourish. The children select and use a variety of natural and manmade resources, clay, paints, pencils and crayons. Twice daily baking and helping to prepare their own organic lunch and snacks ensures hungry tummies are satisfied. Didactic materials support children’s developmental pathways. This includes the development of fine motor skills, activities such as threading, pouring and sorting, understanding of size, shape and dimension, the concept of number and differentiating between sounds. Stories in the cosy book corner and regular singing and music sessions are the building blocks of early literacy. Beyond the nursery in the ‘great outdoors’ offered by the woodland of the Pylewell Estate, children connect to nature during Explorer Sessions and Nature School. They experience the seasons in all weathers and learn about the animals and plants that thrive in the beautiful woodland and farm areas. Children’s Nature Nursery is the complete learning experience for every child. Prospectus Lymington 2014-2015. Copyright © 2014 Kids Love Nature Ltd. All rights reserved. 4
