Session Times & Fees All day 7.30 am – 6.00pm Age Group 2 - 5 Morning Session (7.30 am to 12.30pm) Monday-Friday Age group 2-3 Whilst our emphasis is on heuristic activities, a great deal of planning makes sure that as a whole and individually all children are progressing through the early years curriculum effortlessly and with enjoyment. At the age of 3 the children graduate to the afternoon sessions. We aim to guarantee a place for all children in the afternoon no later than when they are 3.5 years. This usually happens at the end of a term and we will hold a ‘GRADUATION’ ceremony for those children that will be attending the afternoon session in the new term. This is important as a milestone for each child but also to help manage change in a positive manner. Afternoon Session (1.00pm to 6.00pm) Monday – Friday Age group 3 - 5 For our young ‘graduates’ the emphasis will remain on development through play. One major difference is that there are more adult led activities to familiarize the children with a primary school setting. We also find that this age group show rapid progress with lessons such as Italian, Cooking, Dance and Tennis. In addition, there are many more outings exploring places of interest. FEES: We endeavour to keep our fees as competitive as possible without compromising our standards of high quality education. Put simply, we continuously invest in infrastructure and people. It has been shown repeatedly that the early years are the most important for laying the foundations for a life long journey of learning. Fees are reviewed annually and at least one month notice is given indicating any change.

Parent/child induction After your initial enquiry you will be invited into the nursery to view the facilities and talk to the Principal about your child’s individual needs . There are a number of forms to sign at this point including the Day Nursery Agreement and Nursery/Parent Contract and permission forms for outings, emergency medical attention and photographs. No child will be included in filming etc without the prior permission of their parent/guardian. This visit will also give you the opportunity to ask any questions regarding the nursery, its staff, its activities and routines etc. We would also suggest that your child has some preliminary visits (no charge) prior to them starting at the nursery to ensure that they are as settled as possible from their first day. There are also some questions that the nursery Principal will ask you. It is necessary that your work numbers and emergency contact numbers are kept on record at the nursery. We also need some details concerning your child’s health such as the name and telephone number of their GP, whether they require a special diet or if they have any allergies. Fees are shown on the application form. A fixed monthly fee is calculated based on the number of sessions booked. All fees are paid by standing order on the 1st of each month. A deposit is required to reserve a place. What you should bring for your child Included in the fees are Nappies/Wipes. We are currently updating our kitchen so we would ask parents to bring a packed lunch until further notice Suitable clothing for outdoor play (digging for worms and jumping in puddles can be messy!) should be provided.
An Introduction to Willows Pre-school We are self contained within Wilton Grove Tennis club. The nursery has been open for 21 years and was recently refurbished to provide a bespoke purpose-built facility to provide up to 30 places for children aged 2 to 5 years. Willows has played a key role in responding to the Government’s National childcare strategy. Childcare places are available to the wider community including children of working and non-working parents. The nursery is managed on a day-to-day basis by the Principal who is responsible for childcare and daily supervision of the staff. The Principal is well supported by a strong team. Our aims We aim to provide good quality, accessible childcare and education in a warm, friendly, happy environment where each child is recognised, appreciated and encouraged to reach his or her full potential through praise, sensitivity and mutual respect. As well as giving people the chance to enjoy excellent education throughout their lives Willows aims to support parents by providing good quality, accessible childcare. It is expected that childcare offered at Willows aims to meet the needs of parents and children and will be accessible, convenient and of a high quality, always. Willows has an excellent reputation for a happy, well-organised, aesthetically pleasing day nursery where parents are happy to leave their children knowing they will receive the highest quality childcare and education. Willows is committed to ensuring that its nursery meets the National Standards laid down by OFSTED. All staff are Police/Ofsted checked. Equal opportunities Children are unique and special as developing individuals and it is important that we recognize the individuality of each child. Toys and reading material are provided with equal opportunities in mind. Children will have safe access to toys and play materials so that they can make choices and use their initiative.

Three and Four year old children are eligible to claim an Early Education Merton Council, via the nursery. Working in Partnership with Parents Parents are the most important people in a young child’s life. We want to work in partnership with parents and carers to enhance and support their role at this very significant stage of development for children. We will encourage parents to be aware of our aims, policies and procedures. We have an open door policy where parents are encouraged to share information with staff and staff will share nursery day information and information about their children’s development with parents. Parents are also invited to volunteer to join in with activities at the nursery, by prior arrangement with the Principal. We encourage parents to become involved in a practical way through the Parent Nursery Association. Progress meetings are held to enable staff from the nursery to speak directly with parents and effectively address their needs. Parents will be involved in shared record keeping about their own child, verbally or from examples of work and play. Parents should have regular contact with staff and are always welcomed into the nursery. Feedback from parents is welcome and important. We will regularly carry out surveys to assess and inform improvements.
Principles underpinning young children’s learning Every child is recognized as having individual needs and their own way of learning at their own pace. Children learn in many different ways; by playing, talking, observing, planning, doing, questioning, experimenting, testing, repeating, reflecting and responding to adults and to each other. Well-planned play both indoors and outdoors, is a key way in which children learn with enjoyment and challenge. The staff in the nursery believe that young children learn most effectively when: • They feel happy and secure in their environment • Are interested and involved in activities. • Their work has purpose in a practical sense • They have the support of adults who are interested and informed as to the purpose of their activity • The experiences offered are relevant to their current levels of interest • Their previous experiences and achievements are valued and used as a starting point for the next level or stage of their learning. • They are encouraged to be positive about themselves and have pride in their achievements. • They are encouraged to make independent decisions about their learning and what they want to experience. • Parents/carers are actively involved in their learning experiences. Curriculum We recognize the importance of providing children with the best standards of education appropriate to their age. Staff training and curriculum reviews take place regularly to ensure a high standard is maintained and the guidelines set by OFSTED are followed. We are committed to working towards the “early learning goals” as specified by the School Curriculum and Assessment Authority and reinforced by OFSTED. These concern: 1 Knowledge & Understanding of the World 2 Communication, Language and Literacy 3 Mathematical Development 4 Personal, Social and Emotional Development 5 Physical Development 6 Creative Development
Progress Records Records for individual children should be a positive way of identifying what children have achieved, what they understand and can do. Over a period of time they also indicate how children have progressed, the rate at which they have progressed and where children may need further help and support, or extending in their learning. Our aim is to continually monitor and assess children’s progress to enable us to take their individual needs into account when planning activities in the nursery. Activities within the nursery are planned and designed to meet the needs of children within all age groups. Further more detailed information is available from the Principal. Every Child Matters. We ensure that all children: • Be Healthy • Stay Safe • Enjoy and Achieve • Make a positive contribution Outings As part of the curriculum planning and topic work we will want to take children off the premises, usually walking to somewhere close by or the school bus to local areas of interest such as Penponds, Isabella Plantations, Kew Gardens, Wimbledon common, Kew Gardens, Museums and Horton Farm. These opportunities are special for the children and are important as ‘milestones’ in their development.
