Once the racer makes the turn onto Dixie Drive, support vehicles must immediately drive to the finish line. 3
For all racers: The traffic light at the intersection of Blackridge and Bluff Street (where racers make the final left turn onto Bluff Street), will not change to green for a cyclist. If a car is not present to trip the light, racers must push the button at the cross-walk and wait for the light to turn. CREW DRIVING DIRECTIONS FROM START TO 1st RACER SUPPORT POINT Please use the driving directions below. Race Start to Beginning of Rider Support for BOTH DISTANCES: Exit Best Western Abbey Inn from the rear of the hotel RIGHT onto Main Street. Go .2 miles and turn LEFT onto Bluff Street; then stay to the left. Go .2 miles and turn LEFT to enter I-15 North. Go 4.7 miles and take Exit 10 – Green Springs Drive, and turn RIGHT, but move immediately to the left lane. Make the first LEFT onto Telegraph St (the first light after exiting the freeway). Go 1.1 miles and turn RIGHT onto 300 E (traffic light);. Go 1.6 miles and turn LEFT onto Washington Dam Road (traffic light). Go .1 miles and find a place to pull off in the dirt/gravel; making sure the lane is completely clear. 500-mile Support Crews may not follow the route once their racer descends Snow Canyon. Any Crew caught on the route after the turn-off to Snow Canyon (without express permission from the Race Directors) will cause their racer(s) to be disqualified. No exceptions. Please use the driving directions to the finish line below. Snow Canyon To Race Finish at Best Western Abbey Inn: Please don’t forget to call Race Headquarters and report that your racer(s) is proceeding down Snow Canyon. Continue straight (or if you pulled into the parking area at the top of Snow Canyon, turn right) on Hwy 18 towards St. George. Do not, under any circumstances, follow your racer down Snow Canyon. This is a non-negotiable DQ offense. Our Snow Canyon permit allows only racers, and specifically forbids cars. Any vehicles other than bikes descending Snow Canyon will put the future of this section of the route in jeopardy. Hwy 18 becomes N. Bluff Street. The Abbey Inn is 10.6 miles from the top of Snow Canyon on the left side of the road. Support ends for 300-mile racers at the intersection of Sunset and Dixie Drive (McDonald’s on corner). Support crews may follow the route to the finish; but not stop along the way. Check-in at the Finish Line and wait for your racers there! 4
WHO’S WHO OF THE HOODOO - HALL OF FAME INDUCTION On this, the 14th Anniversary of the Hoodoo 500, we’re continuing the tradition of honoring the growing number of cyclists who have completed the Hoodoo 500 on five occasions. BROOK HENDERSON Woodland Hills, CA Brook holds the 300 Nomad record on the original course through Cedar Breaks. He has raced 500 non-stop, 500 Voyager twice, and 500 4x mixed relay team. This year we welcome Brook as a Voyager once again. 5
RICK JACOBSON Van Nuys, CA Our most loyal Hoodoo racer, Rick has been on our starting line every year since 2008; which he finished as a two-man team. Over the years, he completed Voyager three times and 500-mile stage race once. This year we welcome Rick to the 500 Stage Race again. Steve Hadley, Steve Meichtry and Julian Schafer are going for their 5th finishes in 2020! Good luck, to each of you! 6
JULY 2020 AUGUST 2020 SEPTEMBER 2020 The Race Directors of the 3 most challenging, most scenic, and all around greatest 500+ mile races in the world are excited to join together to support and promote each other’s events, and to provide meaningful, inspiring and memorable experiences for YOU. Special recognition, a personalized award, accolades, kudos and a place in ultra-cycling history for racers who complete 2 out of 3 races in a calendar year. Any distance and division counts. Each one of these outstanding events is a qualifier for the Race Across America. If you’re the type who prefers relay racing to solo endeavors (way more fun, we agree), the “shorter” distance events are the perfect way to train your support crews for RAAM. 2019 MWUC FINISHERS: All Three Events: Alexis Berthillier, Jon Shellenbarger Two of Three Events: Chris Davies, Kym Louie, Robert Mann, Brian Martin, Steve Meichtry, Shelby Weber 7
