THE VINTAGE SPORTS-CAR CLUB PRESENTS 2019 SEASON PREVIEW www.vscc.co.uk VSCC PRINCIPAL ASSOCIATES AND PARTNERS
FORMULA Round 1 Silverstone – 13th & 14th April The opening round and a 2 day Race Meeting, VINTAGE with all the Pre-war Racing on Saturday and all Historic support races on Sunday. We are delighted to welcome Benjafields Racing Club who are celebrating Bentley Motors Centenary with a 60 minute race. There will also be a new initiative which sees Vintage Racing and Sports Cars pitched against each other on the same grid. Round 2 Oulton Park – 18th May Once again, we return to Oulton Park in Cheshire for the undulating challenge of the International Circuit configuration. The Cheshire Life Concours will support the event, with entrants parked on the banking overlooking the circuit outside the Fogarty Moss Centre. Round 3 Donington Park – 29th June This circuit holds a special place in the heart of every VSCC Racer, with the Craner Curves generally considered the highlight of many a driver’s season. 2019 will see the Club highlight its heritage with the Seaman Historic Trophy being contested by a grid of ERAs, Maseratis and their contemporaries. Round 4 Cadwell Park – 27th July Cadwell Park plays host to a number of important VSCC grids this year, as the mini-Nurburgring hosts the Triple M Register, Frazer Nash Race, Herbert Austin Challenge and the under 30s Race. This meeting is one not to be missed. Round 5 Brands Hatch – 24th August The highlight of the Club’s 85th Anniversary Celebrations this Race Meeting will be one not to be forgotten for many a year. Edwardian Racers will thunder around this natural amphitheatre Photo: Sue Ballard alongside many VSCC grids and races in celebration of the longevity and success of the Club through the decades. Formula Vintage Endurance – Snetterton Racing with the Vintage Sports-Car Club is one of the most inclusive, welcoming and – 21st September enthralling elements within the Club. A totally new, exciting and aspirational event for the Club will see teams of up to 6 cars and drivers Formula Vintage is the name that links the whole season together and 2019 will see take to the track in a 6 hour endurance relay race. the Club visit 6 of the top circuits within the UK racing scene. VSCC SPEED Round 1 Curborough Speed Trials - 19th April This ever popular venue will play host to the opening CHAMPIONSHIP round of our Championship. Competitors always enjoy the relaxed atmosphere in the Paddock and the tricky bends to re-establish the friendly, competitive element of the competition. A great season opener. Round 2 Wiscombe Park Hill Climb - 12th May The picturesque grounds of Wiscombe Park make this one of the most stunning venues we visit. The demanding hill set against Bluebell woods makes it a great spectator venue and a challenge for even the best drivers. Round 3 Harewood Hill Climb - 1st June BARC kindly host this round for the VSCC. Set just a stones throw from the delightful Yorkshire Dales the whole of this fantastic hill is visible from the paddock - a popular venue for the public and Competitors alike. Round 4 Brooklands Sprint - 15th June With the Paddock set in the historic Brooklands Museum and the track over the road at Mercedes Benz World this makes the most of this special venue. This round is popular with our Competitors as it also forms part of the Brooklands Double Twelve competition. Round 5 Shelsley Walsh - 7th July This round forms part of MAC’s Vintage and Classic weekend which draws in a great crowd for both days. The hill is a firm favourite with VSCC Speed competitors and the trackside viewing is exceptional. Round 6 Prescott Vintage Speed Hill Climb 3rd & 4th August This long established Hill Climb is undoubtedly the ‘Jewel Photo: John Hallet in the Crown’ of the Vintage Sports-Car Club’s year. The pinnacle of the Speed season, this historic event draws competitors and spectators from afar to compete or watch the spectacular action on this historic hill. The VSCC 2019 Speed Championship will consist of 9 rounds, with each Rounds 7 & 8 Competitors 8 best rounds counting towards the overall score. Loton Park Hill Climb - 7th & 8th Sept Set within the confines of the estate’s picturesque Enrolment becomes automatic after the participation of 5 rounds.This year’s deer park this popular venue plays host to our Double Awards are being sponsored by Blue Diamond Riley Services and the on the day Header round each day being a separate round of the Championship.With fantastic vantage points for spectators Awards, which include Fastest Overall Time, Fastest Vintage and Fastest Young this venue is a popular choice with our Members. Driver, will be sponsored again by Louis Latour Wines. Support your club, buy them today! Round 9 The Championship returns to popular venues such as Prescott Hill Climb, Prescott Long Course - 28th Sept Curborough Sprint Course and Loton Park to name but a few. An amazing 16 Our final round brings us back to Prescott where we take Classes are set to battle it out for another thrilling season competing at a host of on the Long Course. VSCC TRIALS John Harris “Derbyshire” Trial 2nd March Set in the Derbyshire Dales based in Ashover near CHAMPIONSHIP Chatsworth, this is the first Trial in 2019. The rocky tracks of the Dales await Competitors. Herefordshire Trial 16th & 17th March The Herefordshire Trial is based at the How Caple Court and is one of only a couple of two day Trials that we run, the supper on the Saturday night adds to the social occasion. Scottish Trial 6th April Based at Coulter near Biggar, the McCosh family allow us to run the Trial on their land on a mix of forest tracks and grass slopes. The Scottish has its own special atmosphere. WelshTrial 12th & 13th October The oldest Trial in the Club’s calendar take place in Presteigne as part of the Welsh Weekend, only open to pre 1931 cars and over two days it is always a very popular Trial. Lakeland Trial 9th November Founded 50 years ago the Lakeland Trial is run amongst the Autumn colours on the Lakeland Fells and Forests. Who would not want to pit themselves against the slope of Drumhouse. Cotswold Trial 16th November The Cotswold Trial was restarted as a Novice Trial and is the only Trial in the calendar to have a Novice Class. The Cotswold Hills have a range of climbs to pit your skills against, with the event starting and ending at Prescott. Photo: Richard Connally Trials were originally used by manufacturers in the early twentieth century to advertise how robust their cars were. The VSCC started trialling in the early years of the Club, we now run Trials all over England, Scotland and Wales - all of which provide a different challenge. The Trials championship starts with the Welsh in October and finishes at the Scottish in April. Support your club, buy them today!
RALLY Measham Rally 19th & 20th January First run in 1950 the Measham Rally is again REVIVAL in Leicestershire and will be using some of Leicestershire’s finest Rallying roads. Competing on a Measham is a right of passage for any Vintage Member. Mini Measham Rally 19th & 20th January Introduced this year giving the chance to take part in the Measham, but not all night. The Mini Measham is the ideal introduction to night navigation. Champagne Rally 27th & 28th April This year the Champagne Rally will be based out of Hawkhills near Thirsk, with expert navigators and drivers on hand to impart their skills before a chance to put elements into practice on Saturday before a Dinner. Sunday will be a Rally with experts again on hand to help. Hertfordshire “Eastern” Rally 22nd June Based in Meldreth near Royston Hertfordshire. A new Rally utilising the lanes of Hertfordshire, with a good central location a good entry is expected. 85th Anniversary Rally 22nd August The first competitive event of the 85th Anniversary celebrations will be the Anniversary Rally. Starting from Brands Hatch the lanes of Kent beckon Competitors. Welsh Rally 12th October As part of the Welsh weekend the Welsh Rally will again be on Saturday based from Wents Meadow with the open roads around Presteigne to delight the vintage motorist. Photo: Michael Archer Rallying has long been a big part of the VSCC road events, each year starting with the Measham Night Rally where crews pit themselves against the challenges of both weather and the dark. To help promote Rallying we will be running again this year the Champagne Rally Weekend as an introduction and we have a new Rally with the Hertfordshire Rally. Support your club, buy them today!
DRIVING New Year Driving Tests 27th January The chance to compete competitively on the hallowed TESTS concrete of the Brooklands track, be that on the Test Hill, Banking or the Finishing Straight is one not to be missed. Enter and become part of Brooklands history, will you be able to get your time onto the newly restored scoreboard? Silverstone AutoSolo 13th April The first of our AutoSolos is at Silverstone, always a popular event the wide-open paddock allows the organiser to set up some great tests. A great way to combine a competitive event which once it is over provides you plenty of time to go and watch the racing. Oulton Park AutoSolo 18th May At Oulton Park competitors are in the thick of the action at the top of the paddock. This attracts a good crowd to watch the cars twist and turn as they wend their way around the cones. Scottish Driving Tests 30th June The Scottish Driving Tests is the second element of the Scottish Weekend in the Borders, where a weekend of Vintage motoring awaits entrants. Brookland Double Twelve Driving Tests - 16th June As part of the Double Twelve concept we return to the 1907 race track for the second time in the year, using the Test Hill, Banking and Finishing Straight once more, but this time with co-drivers. 85th Anniversary Driving Tests 24th August The Anniversary Driving Tests that will be run on the ‘GP Loop’ will compliment the Race Day at Brands Hatch and is expected to attract an exceptional entry Photo: Tim Harris of Members both young and old. TOURS Suffolk Tour 19th May Starting from Pakenham Water Mill. The SuffolkTour continues to find roads that locals did not know existed. Lincolnshire Tour 8th June New for 2019 The Lincolnshire Tour will be based at Woodhall Spa. The rolling roads of Lincolnshire will be used to arrive at locations of interest. Scottish Tour - 29th June As part of the Scottish weekend the Tour will be based at the Mabie House Hotel in Dumfrieshire, before participants head out onto the roads of Dumfries and Galloway. Sussex Tour - 10th August The Sussex Tour set in rolling hills of the Downs with interesting places to visit that will include a mechanical theme. 85th Anniversary Tour 21st August On the afternoon of the first day of the 85th Anniversary celebrations a Tour will be heading out from Brands Hatch into the Kent countryside. THE VINTAGE SPORTS-CAR CLUB PRESENTS 85 ANNIVERSARY th Friday 23 August Today, the Light Car & Edwardian Tour depart Brands to take in the scenery at a more leisurely CELEBRATIONS pace and our social event is a day trip to the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway. This promises to be one of the most spectacular vintage events of the season and we welcome our friends from all eras and marques of motorsport for Park & Display to join us on this red letter day. In the evening Frazer Nash will host their traditional beer festival with hog roast supper and we will be entertained by K Passa live on stage. 21st - 26th Sunday 25 August The ever-popular Homes & Gardens will provide the perfect wind down from the excitement of AUGUST Saturday’s race day and promises wonderful venues and the opportunity to explore the garages of some of our local members! In the evening, entertainment will be provided in the form of a Club Film Night. 2019 – Celebrating 85 Years of VSCC What better venue to celebrate this auspicious anniversary than the legendary Brands Hatch Monday 26 August circuit, scene of some of motor racing’s most audacious racing exploits. Never before has VSCC Sadly, Bank Holiday Monday sees the close of our celebrations but members can prolong the fun visited this world-class circuit and it promises to be an anniversary celebration to remember. and enjoy the fifth round of the rallycross championship at Lydden Hill.
