Charter Launched The new Sport Inclusion Disability Charter clearly outlines the five key areas people with disabilities are asking all organisations to consider in making active and healthy lifestyles possible for them. The areas are Openness , People, Activities, Facilities and Promotion. 8 ACTION PACKED 2018 Sports Inclusion Tennis for All Serve it, Smash it, love it... Cavan Sports Inclusion Development Officer in partnership with Cavan Tennis Club, served an inclusive 5 week Tennis programme for children with a disability aged 5-15 years. The initiative helped introduce children to tennis through fun games and activities, in an inclusive manner, which supported development of the children’s, agility, balance and co-ordination. Horse riding enhances the balance, coordination and motor function of the participants. It improves children’s self-esteem. 13 ACTION PACKED 2018 Pobal, Cavan Sports Partnership has aided the delivery of this initiative as we work to promote physical activity among the youth of the county as well as the disadvantaged, older people and those with health inequalities in our society. Under this initiative Cavan Sports Partnership delivered Healthy Cavan was first the Fit Schools and Fit Towns programmes, targeting launched in Feb 2018 schools and communities and delivering physical activity Funded by Healthy Ireland, initiatives in 5 areas throughout County Cavan; Kilnaleck, Department of Health and Cootehill, Cavan Town, Virginia and West Cavan. As part of the Fit Town Initiative 17 schools in these areas participated in “Fit Schools” programme. 1,309 pupils took part in the Daily Mile. The aim of the Daily Mile is to get children active for 15 minutes outdoors. Case Study Community Coaching Training A WIN WIN situation for coaches, communities, schools and CSP Cavan Sports Partnership in conjunction with Cavan Monaghan Education and Training Board delivered a Community Coaching course which commenced in January 2018, funded by Dormant Accounts. A hugely successful initiative seen 6 participants complete the course and obtain coaching certifications in Basketball, Tug of War, Tri-Heroes, Athletics and Volleyball. Community Coaches recieving their Coaching Certificates. All coaches also completed Safeguarding training, Disability awareness training, First Aid, and personal development and IT. Coaches are now in full time or part-time work and continue to deliver sports programmes to schools and communities throughout the county. 15 ACTION PACKED 2018 Kilnaleck Activity Hub Thrilled to Reveal 1st Activity Hub in County Cavan Sports and Community Clubs in Kilnaleck worked in partnership with Cavan Sports Partnership to successfully secure Dormant Account funding to develop an Activity Hub for their area.
