VOTED BEST OPERA FESTIVAL IN THE WORLD 2017 South of Dublin, along the east coast, you’ll find Wexford – home of the National Opera House and the internationally acclaimed Wexford Festival Opera - voted Best Opera Festival in the World in 2017 at the International Opera Awards. PHOTO © GER LAWLOR The festival which has been running for 67 years was founded by an ambitious group of local enthusiasts in 1951 and has since become one of the most renowned opera festivals in the world. The 2018 Festival will run from 19 October to 4 November and will present 17 days of world-class music and song with truly great International and Irish artists, operatic gems that are rarely staged anywhere, an exclusive array of concerts, short-works and recitals around the majesty of the National Opera House all in a warm, inviting town by the sea. Since its birth, the festival has stood for a number of things: the highest quality productions, striking a balance between tradition and innovation, as well as being a champion of often-overlooked operatic gems. This trifecta has struck a chord worldwide. Our international profile continued to sore in 2017 with a stellar artistic programme and the ‘Best Festival’ Award at the International Opera Awards. 58 journalists from 15 countries attended the Festival. The Festival regularly appears in international and UK publications include Vanity Fair, The Sunday Times, The Guardian, Opera News and more. The Wall Street Journal referred to us as ‘Ireland’s Cultural Jewel’ and Frommer’s Guide listed us as one of the top three opera destinations in the world. Due to our relationship with the European Broadcasting Union, our unique productions reach millions of additional listeners in the US, Canada, Australia, as well as here in Europe. We have a history and heritage to be proud of, and we are committed to maintaining the values that have underpinned our success thus far.
