ZUMA’S KRAAL EMPTIES AS HIS DIARY
FILLS UP
Lungani Zungu

Jacob Zuma might be politically in the wilderness, but his cattle
kraal at his Nkandla homestead is a busy place.

According to his brother Khanya, since the former president
started hosting his now-famous tea parties last month, he has
slaughtered close to 20 cattle.

Both his allies and enemies have flocked to his homestead in
northern KZN, and every time a prominent person is there, the
generous former president slaughters another cow.

Last month, EFF leader Julius Malema was the first to feast at
Nkandla, the same place he once called a monument of
corruption.

He was accompanied by the EFF former national chairperson
Advocate Dali Mpofu who was seen licking his fingers in
pictures that went viral.

Khanya, who also stays in Nkandla, told Scrolla.Africa that they
would be slaughtering more cattle in the coming weeks for
other guests.

“We don’t like our guests to leave our house without eating so
we make food for them when they visit us.”

Earlier this week, SAA former chairperson Dudu Myeni visited
Zuma and showered him with groceries - saying she did it
because of the throngs of visitors.

Since tasting his cows, the ANC-aligned MK Veterans have put
up a tent at the entrance to the house where they are staying.
They have dared the law-enforcement authorities to arrest
Zuma.

Zuma has defied a Constitutional Court order to appear before
the state capture commission of inquiry and the commission
chaired by Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo asked for
Zuma to be jailed for two years for defying a ConCourt order.

Zuma has until Monday to file his opposing papers in the
matter that is set for 25 March.

Zuma’s former ally, Police Minister Bheki Cele, who shifted his
allegiance to President Cyril Ramaphosa, has also visited
Nkandla.

Cele was welcomed with open arms and offered delicious fruit
and juice. For Bheki Cele no cattle were slaughtered.

Zuma was said to be still bitter at those who orchestrated his

FLUSHED WITH JOY: Alex residents say
it’s like living in Sandton as smelly
buckets are replaced
Everson Luhanga

For over 20 years they lived with evil smelling
bucket toilets right outside their doors, but the
brand new flushing toilets handed over to
residents in Alexandra have ended the suffering of nearly 200
families who were using the bucket system.

Nikelwa Pongco said finally, people in that area will breathe a
sigh of relief.

“The place was worse than being in prison. We were forced to
live in a smelly area because this was the only place we could
call home,” she said.

She said the buckets were only cleared once a week.

“For the whole week, we were forced to use the dirty toilets. It
was the most inhuman experience I have ever had,” she said.

Those toilets were a terrible reminder of what poverty looked
like.”

The overjoyed Nikelwa and her neighbours ululated, cheered
and shouted at the top of their voices when officials cut the
ribbon handing over the flush toilets.

“I feel like I have relocated. I feel like I’m living in Sandton!” she
said.

“We finally have toilets that we can use without wondering
what the previous person did. I can now chat on WhatsApp
while I’m in the toilet.”

Nonkululo Pyomsa said they closed the doors and windows
when they wanted to have a meal.

“The situation got worse during lockdown where we had to be
home all the time facing the stench,” she said.

The new toilets were made possible after 30 Strong Voices of
Alex was formed during lockdown level five to help police to
reinforce the lockdown regulations and they discovered the
plight of the people.

Group chairperson Adolf Marema said it is sad that there are
people the government has “forgotten” just kilometres away
from Sandton.

He said 30 Strong Voices of Alex partnered with funders like
Turn2Love and Rebosis.

“The toilets will restore people’s dignity,” he said.

“Our partnership made this achievement possible.”

Career interruptus: ANC official quits
after sex video goes viral
Kabelo Tlhabanelo

Moses Moalusi has resigned after a video
showing him having sex - a video he recorded
himself - went viral.

In the video the woman looks shocked but doesn't dispute the
act.

Moalusi, ANC speaker in ZF Mgcawu District in Upington, said
the video showing him having sex with his partner was stolen
and he had agreed to step aside from his duties.

The video has angered some residents in the area.

Upington resident Jan Smith said the video showed what the
leaders were really interested in.

“This is evidence that we are led by people who want to benefit
for themselves. All they think of is sex and stealing money,” he
said.

“I want to see development in the area. I want to see them
fight unemployment and crime and do something about service
delivery.”

ANC Northern Cape Secretary Deshi Ngxanga said they
welcomed the resignation.

“The ANC has deemed it appropriate to place him on
temporary suspension in line with the ANC Constitution,” said
Ngxanga.

He said the ANC condemned the incident especially when the
country is dealing with GBV.

Scrolla.Africa couldn’t reach Moalusi. On his personal Facebook
page he said he was offended by the circulation of the video.

“The video was recorded by me during a private and intimate
occasion with my partner at my house and was never meant for
the public. As seen in the video my partner consented and was
fully aware of what was happening,” he said.

He said someone stole the video from his closet in his house
while doing renovations.

Stuurman family gains an airport but
loses a son
Joseph Chirume

The shooting to death of Clyde Stuurman of Jeffreys Bay,
Eastern Cape has dampened the celebratory
mood among the direct descendants of Chief
              Dawid Stuurman.

The shooting came as Port Elizabeth Airport was in the process
deceased Clyde.

Dawid Stuurman was a Khoi chief who fought against Dutch and
British colonial rule between 1799 and 1819.

The alleged killer, Donovan Wolf, also of Wavecrest in Jeffreys
Bay, appeared in the Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court on
Wednesday and applied for bail.

He claimed he acted in self-defence.

According to an affidavit submitted to court, Stuurman, 26, told
his older sister, Lucretia, of an alleged threat he received from
an identified man on 18 January.

Wolf, through his attorney, Alwyn Griebenow, told magistrate
Una Rhodes that on the night of the fatal shooting, his wife,
Jodi panicked at seeing suspicious activity around their home.

The affidavit says Wolf grabbed his gun and was setting out to
investigate. He looked over the wall and saw someone walking
in the open plot.

Wolf is said to have approached the area while holding his
firearm.

He claimed that Wolf came face to face with a knife wielding
Stuurman.

The deceased’s cousin, Nicklaas Draai refuted Wolf’s statement
saying that he had promised to kill him before.

This is why the social platforms are jammed with angry people

be done.”

Motsepe on course for his goal of the
CAF presidency
Sizwe Sibiya

With only a few days left before the 2021 elections for the new
Confederation of African Football (CAF) president, the odds are
After reinstated CAF President Ahmad Ahmad was disqualified
following his five-year ban by FIFA in November 2020 (which
was revoked in January after his successful appeal), only four
candidates are left. They are gunning for the CAF presidential
seat Ahmad had hoped to occupy for the second term.

But it is slowly becoming Motsepe’s title to lose.
This is despite the fact that, unlike the other candidates, he has
never occupied the seat of his country’s football federation.
Augustin Senghor was president of the Senegalese Football
Federation; Jacques Anouma was former president of the
Ivorian Football Federation; and Ahmed Yahya was president of
the Mauritanian Football Federation.

However, Motsepe has all odds favouring him, including –
reportedly – the backing of FIFA.

FIFA favours Motsepe to take the reins from Morocco’s Ahmad,
who in turn replaced Issa Hayatou in 2017 after 29 years of
undisturbed leadership from the Cameroonian, according to
AFP.

Sources close to the FIFA leadership told AFP they have advised
the other three candidates to back Motsepe when election day
comes – and in return they will be assigned other positions
within CAF.

Two candidates, Senghor and Yahya, have reportedly welcomed
the idea of backing Motsepe and settling for vice-president
seats. Anouma of Ivory Coast will have to settle for a role of
being an advisor to Motsepe.
The CAF presidential election will take place in Morocco, Rabat,
on Friday, 12 March.

“Fix our road. Or nobody uses it.”
Zukile Majova

Normal village life has ground to a standstill in
               Ndakeni, Ngwekazana and Sithinteni villages
outside Mount Ayliff in the Eastern Cape – where
villagers have blocked a main access road demanding
resurfacing of the gravel road.

Local roads have been washed away by heavy rains over the
past two months, making it difficult for anyone to go to town
when it rains.

At least six local schools have been affected, including the top
performing village school called Zwelakhe High School, which
achieved a 98% matric pass rate from over 250 matric learners
last year.
Busses contracted by the state to transport learners – to Arthur
Ngunga High School, Mt Ayliff Comprehensive High, Zwelakhe
High School, Rhode High School, Saphukanduka High School,
and Sakhisizwe High School – were all blocked from accessing
the schools.

When Scrolla.Africa visited the villages on Wednesday, dozens
of pensioners could not get transport to Mount Frere and
Mount Ayliff to draw their monthly pensions.

Gogo Mambhele Juba said: “We are on our way to draw our
pension money. But now we can’t get there.

“We are supposed to get pension money on Wednesday,
Thursday and Friday. Then it’s the turn of those who draw the
child support grants.

“If we miss our turn, it’s going to be too overcrowded in town
by the weekend.”

Umzimvubu Municipal Manager Thobile Notha said the
municipality had instructed a contractor to fix the road as far
back as December.
“The community says the contractor arrived and promised to
begin work on 11 January, but it’s March now.

“That’s why we have this anger here.

“But we are going to attend to this matter urgently.

“The contractor will be here on Friday and immediately fix the
most damaged sections.”

The protestors have vowed to mobilise other villages and block
the N2, a popular tactic that has forced the government to
quickly resolve such matters in other villages along the busy N2
in the past.

MURDERED FOR A CELL PHONE
Lungani Zungu

Eighteen-year-old Nontobeko Mtshali was
beaten to death with a hammer and sticks in
front of her siblings and her mother - allegedly
for stealing a cell phone.
The night of heavy drinking at her neighbour’s house in
Empangeni, KZN, ended when a cell phone disappeared and
four men accused the teenager of the theft.

The four suspects, who are known to her family, followed
Nontobeko to her home, where they allegedly started beating
her in front of her siblings.

Her mother, Zethu Nkwanyana, watched helplessly as her
daughter took her last breath.

“They continued to beat her even though she was crying for
mercy. They were shouting ‘where is our phone?’ Those boys
are heartless,” she said.

They continued to hit her even after she gave them the phone.

Nkwanyana said her daughter told the suspects she kept the
phone because the owner was drunk and said she was not
stealing it.

The alleged killers appeared at the Empangeni Magistrate’s
Court on Tuesday, and the case was postponed to 22 April.
Nkwanyana described Nontobeko as a loving and caring
daughter.

Hundreds of residents gathered outside the court on Tuesday in
support of the grieving family.

Resident Thabani Ngcobo said: “We want these boys to get the
harshest sentence for the pain they caused the family.”

Ward Councillor Sipho Ntombela said it was painful that
women continued to be killed despite many campaigns to fight
gender based violence.

“We need to do more to educate men that women are not
objects,” he said.

He said they would do everything they can to see the killers
behind bars.

Police Minister Bheki Cele said recently that violence against
women and children remained his top priority.

Branden Grace wins golf title for his late
dad
Timmy T Maranda

An emotional Branden Grace has dedicated his title victory at
the PGA Tour Puerto Rico Open to his late dad who succumbed
to Covid-19 complications earlier this year.

The 32-year old South African golfer carded an eagle-birdie
finish to claim a one-shot win to clinch the win on Sunday at the
Grand Reserve Country Club.

Grace recorded the second PGA Tour event title and his first
title since the 2016 RBC Heritage Tournament in Canada. His
latest title victory was at the SA Open last year at Randpark Golf
Club in Johannesburg.

Brandon tested positive for the virus in August last year while
at the Barracuda Championship. In January this year he lost his
father, Steve Grace.

Branden said losing his father made him look at life differently.
“My old man passed away not too long ago and I have not been
the same since,” said Branden on SAFM Sport On with Thabiso
Mosia.

"I played for my dad. I am grateful for what he did for me. He
taught me to play aggressively. Every time I play, I do it for
him," said Branden.

The South African Golfer said now he wants to improve his
ranking and to play better golf.

Nomzamo Mbatha is coming to America
too
Sizwe Sibiya

It is every actor’s dream to go to America let
alone to star in a Hollywood sequel of a megahit.
Nomzamo Mbatha, who played Thandeka Zungu on South
Africa’s favourite television drama series Isibaya, is done
dreaming. She is living it.

The 30-year-old star from Durban KwaMashu plays Mirembe in
Coming 2 America.

It is a sequel to one of the biggest comedy hits of all time,
Coming to America, which starred Eddie Murphy as an African
prince who travels to New York and goes undercover to find a
wife that he can respect for her intelligence and strong will.

Coming 2 America again features Eddie Murphy as Prince
Akeem along with some of the former cast such as Wesley
Snipes and veteran actor James Earl Jones.

But this time there’s a bit more real Africa, including Ghanian
Michael Blackson and Nomzamo whose character Mirembe
lives at the royal house of the fictional kingdom as the royal
groomer.

Nomzamo who starred in a number of notable South African
movies and television dramas told BBC that, this being her
international studio movie debut, the director made her feel
welcome by making sure that everyone pronounced her name
correctly. Being on set with big stars felt like a master class.

“I would not even sit in my trailer,” said Nomzamo.

“I’ll be like, I am here to learn. This is a master class ohk,
Hollywood royalty through and through.”

Rejoicing as hundreds of Nigerian
schoolgirls freed
There was joy and celebration as hundreds of
schoolgirls who were abducted by armed men
from their boarding school in Northwest Nigeria
on Friday were freed on Tuesday.

But thousands more remain captives of bandits and extremist
groups whose range of operations, once restricted to the North
East corner of the country, has spread across Nigeria’s
predominantly Muslim north.
The release of the girls was the second time in less than a week
that gunmen have returned kidnapped schoolchildren.

The girls were taken from a government secondary school in
the town of Jangebe in the state of Zamfara.

“It gladdens my heart to announce the release of the abducted
students from captivity,” the governor of Zamfara State, Bello
Matawalle, said. About 279 girls were in the group.

Young boys and girls have increasingly become targets of
kidnapping by armed groups looking to make money. The
Nigerian government denies paying ransom money for them.

Distraught parents described how they heard the shooting and
learnt that their daughters had been taken.

One man, who has two daughters at the school, found his
youngest daughter crying.

“I rushed to her and grabbed her firmly, hoping to hear that
her older sister was safe, too. But she shook her head and said,
‘They took her away.’ And she broke down in tears again.”
His daughter told him that the armed men were wearing
uniforms and claimed to be with the military.

The younger daughter, 13, hid under her bed and watched as
her older sister, 14, was led away with hundreds of other girls.

A video posted on Twitter showed some of the girls walking
past journalists in a straight line — solemnly and silently — as
cameras flashed. The footage showed some as barefoot, while
others were limping.

On Tuesday, the state governor, Matawalle, struck a note of
celebration. “I enjoin all well-meaning Nigerians to rejoice with
us as our daughters are now safe.”

Swallows coach: ‘The loss was a good
omen ahead of our next game’
Sphiwe Masilela

Swallows FC coach Brandon Truter reckons the 2-1 loss to TS
Galaxy is a good omen for his team.

Following the Swallows’ loss, Mamelodi Sundowns is the only
team in the DStv Premiership to taste defeat this campaign.

It’s been almost a year since The Birds last lost a game, and
ultimately their 25-game unbeaten run came to an abrupt halt.

“Yeah, it could be a good omen. I mean, it’s almost exactly a
year since we last lost a game,” said Truter.

“We look to keep good form in our next games against TTM
[Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila], but I am really proud of the
performance from the boys. I just need to emphasise that
because they really played well and I can’t fault them.”
The two-time coach-of-the-month winner (in December and
January) says he thinks his players will now play without fear of
losing their next game.

Truter says they will be looking for vengeance against the
Limpopo-based outfit, who knocked them out of the Nedbank
Cup. It was decided by a 4-3 loss on penalties, after a 2-all draw
in 120 minutes of football.

Since TTM brought in new chairman Dr Abram Sello, things
seemed to be going their way and results have been coming.

Swallows and TTM will battle it out on Sunday afternoon at the
Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto.

Meanwhile, goals were a scarce commodity in the Wednesday
mid-week games in the DStv Premiership.

Chippa United, who eliminated Cape Town City in the Nedbank
Cup last Sunday, played out to an entertaining goalless draw at
the Sisa Dukashe stadium.

In a more entertaining clash, Lamontville Golden Arrows were
also held to a goalless stalemate by Baroka FC – despite there
being a lot of action and intensity in the game.
