The City of Stirling would like to thank you for your ongoing commitment to sorting your waste correctly. Do not use bin liners in the yellow-top bin, and place all recyclables loosely inside it. Soft plastics in any form (including plastic bags) cannot be recycled in the yellow-top bin. 2. Buy products with minimal packaging and recycle all packaging where possible. 3. Clothing and shoes are not permitted in the yellow-top bin. Donate them to a local charity or attend our next Charity Clothing Drop off Day event. 4. Do not put any chemicals, batteries or globes in the red-top or yellow-top bins. 5. Place your bins on the verge prior to 6.00am on your collection day to ensure your bins get emptied. Remove your bins from the verge within 24 hours of your collection service. 6. You can book all of your on-demand services online. 7. Your tip passes are attached to your annual rates notice. Please keep them safe as they cannot be reprinted. 8. Hazardous waste Gas bottles Top tips: • Items disposed of in your red-top bin go directly to landfill. Dispose of recycling correctly in your yellow-top bin and help us achieve a waste diversion target of 65 per cent by 2020. • The City encourages you to start composting and worm farming if possible. Garden hose Top tips: • Place items loosely in the green-top bin, free of plastic bags. • Food waste, including fruit and vegetables, should be placed in the red-top bin. Recycling Centre Balcatta The City has a dedicated recycling centre at 238 Balcatta Road, Balcatta. Open: Monday to Saturday 7.30am to 4.00pm and Sunday 8.00am to 4.00pm. Closed: Christmas Day, New Year’s Day and Good Friday. The following items can be dropped off at the recycling centre free of charge: • Aluminium and steel cans • Globes • Bicycles (working) • Household furniture in good condition • Batteries (at the discretion of the contractor) • Clothing, fabric, shoes • Landscaping items • Dry cardboard, magazines and paper • Mixed plastic • Electronic waste • Polystyrene and bulk packaging • Glass bottles and jars • Scrap metals (including broken, lids removed) • White goods (excluding fridges and freezers). The following items must go over the weighbridge and fees apply: • Air conditioners • Mattresses and bases • Fridges and freezers • Tyres. • Household bulk waste Tip passes City of Stirling ratepayers receive tip passes on their annual rates notice. Tip passes can be combined with cash or EFTPOS payments if the delivered weight exceeds the passes provided. Fees apply after all tip passes have been used. Tip passes are provided on an annual basis for residential use only and are non-transferable: • Proof of address and the tip pass are required on entry to the recycling centre • Expired tip passes will not be accecpted • Tip passes cannot be reprinted so make sure you store them in a safe place. Use your tip passes to dispose of the following items for free at the Recycling Centre Balcatta: • Household bulk junk – up to one tonne including two mattresses or bed bases and two fridge disposals (additional mattresses, bed bases, fridges and freezers will incur an additional fee) • Clean green garden waste – up to one tonne • Clean sand, bricks and concrete – up to one tonne (no timber, roof or wall tiles, super-six sheeting, asbestos or plastic buckets with dried cement). The Recycling Centre Balcatta does not accept asbestos materials. For disposal options, contact Mindarie Regional Council or Redhill Landfill Facility. Hazardous waste Up to 20 litres or 20 kilograms of hazardous waste can be brought to the Recycling Centre Balcatta per day, free of charge. Commercial quantities will not be accepted. We will accept: CDs and DVDs Ink and printer cartridges Pool and other Corks (household quantities only, household chemicals commercial quantities not Electronics/mobile accepted) Smoke alarms phones LPG gas cylinders (that Solvents and paints (dry/ Flares and red fire hold less than nine kilograms empty tins also accepted, up to of gas) 100 litres per day including dry/ extinguishers empty containers, commercial Fluorescent light globes Motor oil, coolants and quantities accepted) Household and car filters (household quantities Varnishes and stains only, over 20 litres not batteries accepted) X-ray film. On-demand collection services To enable residents to dispose of household junk at a time that is convenient to them, the City has a range of on-demand collection services. Electronic waste Mattresses/bases Skip bins will be collected two business days after delivery. Delivery and collection will occur between 6.00am and 6.00pm Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays. Skip bins are 1.8 m long and 1.65 m wide. Do not overfill your skip bin as overflowing skip bins will not be collected. The collection of the skip bin is a two-stage process. The skip bin is first emptied, and then a second truck will collect it. There may be a delay of a few hours between the skip being emptied and removed. In the interim, please do not place any items in the skip bin. For enquiries relating to an existing booking for a skip bin delivery or collection, or overfull skip bins, please contact SUEZ on (08) 9350 7137 between 7.00am and 5.00pm Monday to Friday. Green waste verge collection In addition to your green-top bin, the City offers green waste verge collections. You can find your collection dates in this guide, via the City's website or alternatively you can refer to your local community newspaper for details. The City no longer notifies residents of upcoming verge collections via mail drop. Green waste items must be placed on the verge by the start date of the scheduled collection. Items can be placed on the verge up to nine days before your scheduled collection date and may take up to two weeks to be collected. It is illegal to place green waste on parks, reserves, vacant land or commercial properties. Penalties apply. If you witness any illegal dumping, please contact the City's Customer Contact Centre on (08) 9205 8555. To ensure green waste can be collected from your verge, please make sure that: • Branches are no more than 1.5 metres long • Branches that are more than 25 centimetres in diameter (thickness) have been cut into lengths of no more than 30 centimetres • Green waste is not in cardboard boxes or hessian, polypropylene or plastic bags • Green waste is free of contamination. DO NOT place green waste on or near: Footpaths or driveways, or allow it to overhang onto roadways, obstructing views Artificial turf, trees, stumps or sprinklers Water meters, Telstra covers, electrical green domes, manhole covers or posts Fences, walls, letterboxes or fixed objects.
