Usually the only way I know school is back in session is the traffic gets exponentially worse. We are wrapping up our Summer What’s Vacation Photo Contest (see page two for details). Claudia and I are excited to be heading to Alaska for a couple weeks at the end of the Inside month. Too bad we can’t enter into our own contest. We would also like to ask you to please keep RMSCare Manager, Tom Sommer, in your thoughts and prayers as he recovers from surgery. Thank you! Time Is Running Out! Ticketmaster Targeted Page 2 If you are someone who enjoys going to concerts, it might interest you to know that Ticketmaster Shiny New suffered from a data breach this year. Ticketmaster is a ticket purchasing website that is used globally Gadget for many types entertainment. Page 2 It was discovered on June 23, 2018 that malware on a customer support product hosted by a third- Nightmare party supplier sent data to a remote location, but Plant this could have occurred as early as September 2017. Five percent of their customer base comes out to 11.5 million, Elachee Nature so we will have to see if their investigation into the breach will reveal more affected Science Center customers. Page 3 This breach highlights how supply chain vulnerabilities can lead to massive data loss and exposure. Companies dealing with customer data / PII should have elevated Senior Citizen security controls in place to prevent vulnerabilities. Scam Hackers show no mercy or regard. Businesses from all Page 3 countries, of all sizes, across all industries are targeted. At least 230 million individuals and 110 million businesses are exposed on the dark web in just one week’s time… YIKES. RMS can check to see if your credentials have been compromised. Stay tuned! Shiny New Gadget As we draw close to the end of summer, many of us are stowing our grills in preparation for the cooler months. Others never had a grill in the first place, banned by their lease from ever grilling. Regardless of the reason, pretty much everyone bemoans a grill-free existence. Enter the Kenyon City Grill, a handy grill for those of us who need to stay inside to cook a hot dog or hamburger. With some engineering tricks, the grill can cook anything you throw at it with virtually no smoke, exceeding the requirements of city fire codes and preventing you from getting smoked out of your kitchen. Nightmare Plant The giant hogweed is a nightmare of a plant. This 15 foot umbrella of white flowers is an invasive species that is slowly spreading its way from New York through dozens of states, and in June it was found in Virginia for the first time. If you see one, don't go messing around with it! Its sap is so toxic that it can give you third-degree burns. Humans vs. Robots This month, Vancouver is hosting the annual world championship of Dota 2, one of the internet’s most-watched videogames. The world's best gamers will come together to fight for millions of dollars, but a team of five bots backed by Elon Musk—named OpenAI Five—has been practicing against itself millions of times, and has already notched a victory against a team of semipros ranked in the top 1 percent of the game. Can human players beat a robot that's been playing the equivalent of 180 years of Dota 2 per day?

Lee Irminger, Natural Resources Manager, says that Elachee’s mission is to “promote environmental understanding through education and conservation.” He has worked for Elachee for three years now, and one can certainly see the love and passion that all of the staff have for working there. If you want to check it out yourself or take your family, their 26th Annual Snake Day would be the perfect opportunity. It is on Saturday, September 8, from 10 am to 3 pm. They are showcasing nearly two dozen regional herpetology experts who will entertain audiences with live demonstrations of exotic species of snakes, alligators, lizards, turtles, tortoises, toads and frogs. Senior Citizen Scam Christine was a retiree in her 70s with a terminally ill husband when she got an email saying she could receive $660,000 if certain “fees” were paid. So she began paying. Over the course of a few months, those “fees” drained the couple’s life savings of $142,000 completely dry. Unfortunately, Christine’s plight is too common. Elderly people are embarrassed and unwilling to talk about being victimized by fraud. Combine that with their vulnerabilities – social isolation, cognitive impairment and bereavement – creates a perfect storm. People have to talk openly about these crimes, because silence is only making things worse. Why was a blatant con on the elderly noticed only after the damage was done? Ask us how you can protect yourself and your loved ones from this same fate with our SpotlightID.
