But we couldn’t do it without people like you, our fabulous fundraisers who do amazing things to raise vital funds for our services. Top tips for planning your fundraiser The people who use our services may sometimes feel that they have a mountain to climb, so it is apt that some of our supporters do just that to help them. Mountain climbers, marathon runners, abseilers, tough mudders…anyone who takes on a physical challenge to support Changing Lives stands shoulder to shoulder with the people who access our services, giving them courage to continue with their own personal challenge. But it’s not just physical challenges- your fundraiser can be whatever you fancy. If you are struggling for ideas, check out our ideas on the next page! Here are a few things to think about when you are deciding what fundraising activity or event you would like to do: Planning Think carefully about the timing of your fundraising activity or event. Make sure you have plenty of time to raise your money! Organisation Keeping organised is key. Write a timetable or checklist for the event to help you keep on top of tasks! Sponsorship Taking on a sponsored challenge is one of the most popular ways to raise money for charity. Below are step-by-step guidelines for creating online sponsorship pages on Virgin Money and JustGiving. You could even wear a Changing Lives T-shirt! Make sure to tag us in your social media posts. Keep updating your page, tell people about your progress! Post your Just Giving page to your social media pages and email out to your contacts. Keep your page going for a couple of weeks after your event for those last-minute sponsors. Don’t forget to ask those donating to tick the Gift Aid Box if they are a UK taxpayer. We can claim an extra 25p per £1 donated!
Stay safe and legal When planning your activity or event please bear in mind the following: Health and safety Make sure that you have completed your own risk assessment prior to the activity or event. www.hse.gov.uk has information about how to undertake this and any additional information about safety during your event. Public collections If you would like to do a collection please email fundraising@changing-lives.org. uk to request a collection tin. If you are collecting in the street or public property you must contact the local authority who will issue you with a license. Promotional materials Please make sure that all of your promotional material states that the event or activity is in aid of Changing Lives (operating name of The Cyrenians) Registered Charity No. 500640. First aid Ensure that you have adequate cover for the size of your event. This could be just making sure a First Aider is on site or for large events ask St John Ambulance www.sja.org.uk Food and drink If you are using a venue they must be licensed, if not you must obtain a temporary license. For smaller events, you are responsible for any food you have prepared personally. Insurance Changing Lives cannot provide insurance for your activity or event. Check with the venue about their public liability insurance. If you are holding a raffle/bingo etc. you must check the Gambling Commission Website.
After your event Thank you so much for choosing to raise money for Changing Lives. Once you have finished gathering all of your donations and sponsorships you can send the money to us in a variety of ways: Online Any money that you have raised via JustGiving or Virgin Money will be paid directly into our bank account. Cheque You can also send any money raised to us in the post via cheque.
