2021 JR World Ski Championships Canadian Team Selection Criteria 1. Preamble The FIS 2021 Junior World Championships are scheduled to take place in Krasnoyarsk, RUS from March 15th to 28th, 2021. Freestyle Canada will select athletes for the 2021 FIS Freestyle Junior World Ski Championships from our disciplines to compete in the following events based on the selection criteria outlined in this document: ● Moguls and Dual Moguls (one team selected to compete in both events) ● Aerials and Team Aerials ● Slopestyle and Big Air (one team selected to compete in both events) ● Halfpipe Alpine Canada Alpin (ACA) will be responsible to select athletes to participate in the International Ski Federation (FIS) Freestyle Ski World Championship for the discipline of Ski Cross. Please note that Freestyle Canada’s participation in this event will require approval and endorsement from our Medical team. As we near the event, our team will do a detailed analysis of the COVID situation and the risk of travel. 2. COVID-19 Statement Freestyle Canada is carefully following the evolution of the coronavirus on the global and domestic level and how it may impact obtaining quota and attending events in respect to selection of athletes for the High-Performance Program and qualifying events. Unless otherwise required by exceptional and unforeseen circumstances related to the impact of the coronavirus, FC will respect these published Selection Criteria as written. However, situations related to the coronavirus pandemic may arise that require this Selection Criteria to be modified. Any modifications will be made promptly and as often as required following developments that directly impact the Selection Criteria. In such circumstances, any modifications will be communicated to all affected individuals as soon as possible. Further, situations may arise that do not allow this Selection Criteria to be modified or applied as written due to time constraints or other exceptional and unforeseen circumstances. In such situations, any decision, including nomination decisions, will be made by the individual(s) with decision-making authority, as stated in this Selection Criteria in consultation with the relevant individual(s) or committee(s) (as applicable), and in accordance with the stated performance objectives and selection philosophy and approach as stated herein. Should it be necessary to make any decision in this manner, FC will communicate with all affected individuals as soon as possible. Freestyle Canada – December 2020 Page 3 of 11
2021 JR World Ski Championships Canadian Team Selection Criteria 3. Authority The FIS Freestyle Junior World Ski Championships are conducted under rules established by the FIS. Freestyle Canada will be responsible for: ● Creation and management of the Canadian athlete selection criteria ● Ranking and selection of eligible Canadian athletes ● Selection of coaches ● Logistical and planning support for the team ● Management of entries. 4. Guiding Principles The following guiding principles have been taken into consideration in the development of the 2021 FIS Freestyle World Junior Ski Championships selection: ● Freestyle Canada’s primary objective is to send Canadian athletes who are podium contenders. ● Selected competitors will gain a high performance international competitive experience. ● Coaches selected will also experience preparing for and executing a plan for athletes to perform at a high-performance international event. 5. Athlete General Eligibility ● Freestyle Canada member in good standing ● Have paid the FC International License Fee ● Have an active FIS number ● Must be a citizen of the country of which National Ski Association she/he has a license and prove this with a valid passport; in this case, Canada ● Have a valid Russian VISA (application for the invitation letter has to be done before January 15th, 2021). ● Age Requirements: o For the disciplines of Halfpipe, Slopestyle and Big Air, athletes must be born between January 1st, 2003 and December 31st, 2007. o For the disciplines of Moguls and Aerials, athletes must be born between January 1st, 2001 and December 31st, 2006. ● Athletes will also be required to meet the discipline specific minimum skill levels as described by discipline in section 8. 2021 JR World Ski Championships Canadian Team Selection Criteria 6. Liability and Insurance The organizer cannot be held liable for any damage or accident. All participants have to be sufficiently insured against accidents and illness by themselves or their National Federation. As a member of Freestyle Canada, each athlete and coach have 3rd party liability insurance as part of their Freestyle Canada membership. ● Athletes who have purchased the Freestyle Canada International License will be automatically registered with SAIP insurance (as a minimum). This will cover out-of- country medical expenses. ● Coaches need to ensure they have adequate out-of-country medical insurance that does not have any COVID exclusions. 7. Disciplines/Events The following men’s and women’s events are planned: Event Notes Moguls Skiers selected for Moguls will also be entered in Dual Moguls Dual Moguls Aerials Mixed Aerial Team Up to 3 entries from qualified Canadian Aerialists Slopestyle Skiers selected for Slopestyle will also be entered in Big Air Big Air Halfpipe Ski cross (Alpine Canada will be responsible for the selection of those athletes.) 8. Quota The FIS determines the number of athletes that may compete at the FIS Freestyle Junior World Championships for each country participating. Freestyle is designated a quota of 38 total with a maximum of 22 of the same gender. The FIS has established the following quotas: there is no requirement for Freestyle Canada to fill all quota spots. Freestyle Canada – December 2020 Page 5 of 11

Athlete Selection Process 9.1 Timelines o August 15th, 2019 through February 24th, 2021 Event Eligibility Period: The selection period will include the eligible events within this timeframe. o January 15th, 2021, Long List Entries Deadline: To obtain invitation letters for Russian Visa purposes, top ranked athletes in each discipline will be added to a long-list of entries by January 15; each athlete can make their decision if they are willing to travel if selected or if they will apply for a Visa and may not be selected to the team. o February 24th, 2021: Team Selection: The team selection will be done on or before (3 weeks before the arrival day). Final entries are due no later than March 5th,2021. To obtain invitation letters for Russian Visa purposes, top ranked athletes in each discipline will be added to a long-list of entries before January 15; each athlete can make their decision if they are willing to travel if selected or if they will apply for a Visa and may not be selected to the team. 9.2 Spot Allocations Round 1 Spot Allocations (28 available spots): • Maximum available quota spots for each discipline: o Moguls - 3 spots for men and 3 spots for women o Aerials - 3 spots for men and 3 spots for women o Slopestyle/Big Air - 4 spots for men and 4 spots for women o Halfpipe - 4 spots for men and 4 spots for women Freestyle Canada – December 2020 Page 6 of 11
2021 JR World Ski Championships Canadian Team Selection Criteria • Each discipline will have its own minimum skill level, as described in section 9.3 and HPP ranking from the Jr World Championships eligibility period. • Any unallocated spots from Round 1 will go back in the pool and be allocated in Round 2. Round 2 Spot Allocation (any available remaining spots): A place point ranking will be generated: • Athletes will use their three (3) best results from the eligibility period including the following competitions: o NorAm competitions o Sr Nationals (Aerials only) • For calculations, a win is worth one point, 2nd place is worth 2 points and so on. • Athletes will be ranked in increasing order. • In the event of a tie, the skier with the higher placing will be selected first. If the three counting results are identical, Freestyle Canada will look to their 4th best competition result for the higher placing. Freestyle Canada reserves the right not to fill all quota spots. 9.3 Athlete Performance Eligibility a. Aerial team The HPP Aerial Selection Committee will be responsible for nominations to the Aerial team. All competing eligible Aerial athletes are able to have the opportunity to compete in the team event based on available entry combinations, which will be determined by the coaching staff. Please note: the exact format of the team event has not been published at time of writing. Athletes will need to meet the following performance eligibility: ● Athlete will have to meet this minimum skill level: o Men: Have successfully competed on snow in the 2020-2021 season at least one (1) FF (or a jump with a higher degree of difficulty). o Women: Have successfully demonstrated their ability to land two (2) different doubles on snow during the 2020-2021 season. ● Each athlete’s 5 best jump scores done during the 2019-2020 or 2020-2021 season (jumps score eligible for the HPP rankings) will be used to rank the eligible athletes. A maximum of 2 jumps coming from the 2019-2020 season can be use and a minimum Freestyle Canada – December 2020 Page 7 of 11

Mogul Team The HPP Mogul Selection Committee will be responsible for nominations to the Mogul team. Athletes selected for single Moguls will also be entered to compete in Dual Moguls. Athletes will need to meet the following performance eligibility: ● Have finished at least one (1) time in the top half of the field at a NorAm event in the 2019-2020 or 2020-2021 season. ● Each athlete’s 3 best HPP score values and 3 best HPP place values from the 2019- 2020 or 2020-2021 season will be used for selecting the eligible athletes, consistent with the HPP Mogul selection protocols. ● For further information, please refer to: www.freestylecanada.ski/programs/hpp- policies/ c. Halfpipe Team The HPP Halfpipe Selection Committee will be responsible for nominations to the Halfpipe team. Athletes will need to meet the following performance eligibility: ● Athletes will need to have the following minimum skill level to be considered for selection: o Women: both directions of each Switch 360, 540 and Alley Oop o Men: on of each Flare, Cork 900, Switch 720 ● Athletes need to obtain at least one (1) time a result in the top 2/3 of the field at a NorAm event in the 2019-2020 or 2020-2021 season. ● Athletes’ 3 best HPP placing values from the eligibility period will be used for selecting the eligible athletes ● Athletes will be ranked using the HPP ranking process and using the Jr Worlds eligibility period. Slopestyle/Big Air Team The HPP Slopestyle/Big Air Selection Committee will be responsible for nominations to the Slopestyle/Big Air team. Athletes selected for the Slopestyle event will also be entered to compete in the Big Air event. Freestyle Canada – December 2020 Page 8 of 11
2021 JR World Ski Championships Canadian Team Selection Criteria Athletes will need to meet the following performance eligibility ● Athletes will need to have the following minimum skill level to be considered for selection: o Women minimum skill level: (must have but not limited to) i. JUMPS: o All direction 540s, o One 720, o 2 different grabs in any of their jumps ii. SIDE TAKE OFF: o 540 with a grab iii. RAILS / FEATURES: 2 different combinations achieved on urban competition rails including: o One direction 270 on, o Four directions 270 off, o One 450 off, o 3 directions swap, o Men minimum skill level: (must have but not limited to) i. JUMPS: o Singles: 1080 in four directions, o Doubles: 1080 in all four directions, & 1260 in three different directions, o 4 different grabs ii. SIDE TAKE OFF: o Double off axis flip iii. RAILS / FEATURES: o 450 three different directions on & off o 360 switch up, o Front 630 out ● Have finished at least one (1) time on the top 2/3 of the field at a NorAm Slopestyle event in the 2019-2020 or 2020-2021 season. ● Athletes will be ranked using the HPP ranking process and using the Jr Worlds eligibility period. Coaches Freestyle Canada will offer the opportunity to one (possibly two) coaches to attend for each discipline (MO/DM, AE, HP and BA/SS). Coaches will be offered the opportunity based on: ● Canadian registered coaches will be considered – generally, Comp Dev trained is required. Coaches must be qualified to coach the skills being performed by the athletes at the competition to be considered. ● If the majority of athletes selected for one discipline come from one program, the coach from that program will usually be prioritized selection (i.e. if 6 athletes are chosen from the NextGen Team – a NextGen coach will be prioritized). ● Experience needed to become an improved HPAD coach ● Freestyle Canada Coach certification Coaches will normally be selected four weeks prior to the first day of training. They will only receive expenses for this activity; they will not receive contractor fee; coach expenses will be covered through athletes’ contributions. Details on what expenses will be covered must be discussed and approved before the coach accepts the role. 11. Athlete Costs At present, there is no funding available from Freestyle Canada for this competitive opportunity. Athletes will be responsible for their own expenses as well as an even share of their discipline’s coach’s (es’) expenses; PSOs are free to contribute towards their athletes’ expenses. Each athlete will be responsible for: ● half board price for a maximum of CHF100 per day (accommodation, breakfast, dinner, and ski lifts)* ● airfare ● lunches, incidentals ● a share of the coach costs ● a share of ground travel *subject to clarification in the official invitation The coach and ground travel expense cost to the athlete expected to be around 1000$ per athlete. For budgeting purposes count on (per person): ● Estimated coach and ground expense fee per athlete: $1,000 Freestyle Canada – December 2020 Page 10 of 11
2021 JR World Ski Championships Canadian Team Selection Criteria ● Airfare: market dependent, subject to fluctuation and availability (COVID service reduction) ● Half board: approximately $800 CAD (100CHF/night * 6) for room, breakfast & dinner ● Food: lunches and snacks - $100 ● Forecasted total cost: minimum $5,500 plus incidentals per athlete 12. Unforeseen Circumstances In situations where an unforeseen circumstance (as determined by FC) do not allow the World Junior Ski Championships selection criteria to be fairly and objectively applied, FC and its selection committees reserves the right take appropriate course of action. If the criteria result in fewer athletes than the quota allows, FC reserves the right to adjust the criteria to include additional athletes. Due to the current COVID situation, the Selection Committees along with the medical team of Freestyle Canada will analyze the risk associated to the participation of our athletes to this event and will decide 30 days out of the official arrival day if they are sending a team or not. 13.
