Wednesday 20th July 2022 Visit us at www.kingsavenueschool.co.uk Y6 Prom 2022 Our year 6 students certainly know how to have a good time! We were delighted to provide students with an opportunity to enjoy their final days in primary school with a Year 6 Prom. They have endured a difficult and uncertain couple of years in their primary school experience, but they have faced these challenges with resilience, good humour and genuine consideration and care for their peers. They have been an absolute credit to the school. We had an evening of food, dancing and prizes! Thank you to all the staff involved in making it such a successful evening for our students.
As part of the end of year trips, 5/6 and 6 went to the natural history museum on June 6th to look at all the fossils and to take part in a Dino dig workshop. It was a great day and the children be- haved exceptionally. Code Club A Great Success Code Club has been great this term! Children in year 6 have been practicing their coding skills using Python and HTML. These sessions are run by our digital leaders who are pupils with fantastic computing and leadership skills!

Well done Kirk! Who will take Kirk’s spot next year? Get practicing! During the last half term year 5 had been learning about the ancient Greeks and their impact on modern civilisations. They learned: Who were the Ancient Greeks? Their contributions include Democracy the Olympic games, Gods and Goddesses and the Battle of Troy and made comparisons with today and the impact the ancient Greeks have had on western life. They learned about Gods and Goddesses such as Athena and the Parthenon temple that was dedicated to her. This inspired some of the children to build replica models of the Parthenon and paint and make models of ancient Greek vases. They rounded up their learning with a class assembly performance, showcasing what they had learned by reciting a poem, singing a song and reading out useful facts about the Greeks.
Year 1 Newsletter In year one this year we have worked hard and learned lots. In Science we learned about the weather and know that ev- ergreen trees stay green all year and deciduous trees change with the seasons. In RE we have learned about Christianity and Judaism. Geography taught us about where we live and our place in the world. Mary Anning was one of our history topics, she was a famous palaeontologist who found fossils. In maths we have learned so many things but our favourite topic was unequal and equal groups. Equal groups have the same amount in them but unequal groups do not. We also went on a school trip to Battersea Park Chil- dren’s zoo which we loved but most of all we loved our learning in English. We learned so much and are very proud of our work. Here are some examples of our work. The zoo One scary night there was a huge hog running away. He had escaped from a huge zoo. Something happened. There was a shadow in the shape of an orangutan following him. It was an orangutan. The hog and orangutan decided to have a race. They ran to a pig and then ‘BOOM’ they crashed! Then they chased some chickens. Suddenly they got some more energy. This energy made them run faster than any other animal. They kept running to get the prize. The prize was an Easter egg and a golden bunny. “Quick” said the orangutan the volcano is beginning to erupt “Volcano!!!!. ARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH” said the hog. They both quickly ran but the lava was rising to the top. The hog and orangutan ran again, this time they ran to the top of the world. They saw a bird here and they all went into space. They all got a magical handshake and did somersaults on a yellow shiny UFO. The hog and orangutan then got caught in a thunderstorm as they came back to earth. When they got back to their zoo, it was brand new! - Jervaise (Narrative) Dear Avana I am going to the park, ask your mum if you can come with me. If she says “no” then maybe I can come to your house. We can play lots of games and invite my other friend Lisa. We should all have a play date. You eat lots of food on a play date. Let’s bring our favourite teddies too. We can bring all of favourite food too. It’s going to be so, so, so, so, so much fun on our play date. And then we can go to the fun fair and then play and then go to Flip out. And then we could go and make donuts. After that we could go to Mc Donald’s. I really hope we can have a play date. Lots of love Ayse
My holiday One cold day me and my mum went to the theatre to see Frozen one. Some of it was different to the film. I went to see it in the evening and I was so excited. I didn’t know when to stop talking. When it started the lights turned off so I could see better. I really like watching Frozen, it was fun. After the show, it was night time and me and my mum went to an American candy shop. It had lots of crazy candy in it and a big lolly pop dummy. It also had some cute fluffy cuddlies in it. After that me and my mum went to pizza hut. We ate pizza and chicken and it was delicious. I had a good holiday, - Nyama (Recount) Goldilocks and the three bears Once upon a time Goldilocks ran way from her house. She found a small little house. She knocked on the door three times but no one was in. So she went in. She was very hungry and saw three bowls of porridge. She tried the big bowl and said “this is so hot”. Next she tried the medium one. “No, this is too cold”. Then she tried the last one. “This is perfect”. She was so tired so she sat on the big chair. “this is too big” She then tried the medium chair “this is too soft” She then tried the last one “this is perfect” and then it broke …”oh no” Goldilocks then went into the big bed, it was too hard. Then the medium bed, but it was too soft. Then she tried the last one and it was perfect. She fell asleep. The three bears came home and they saw everything was different. They were angry. They scared Goldilocks. - Rozerin (Retell) Our Experience at Thomas’ Foundation Firstly, on Thursday 14th was very fun as we launched water bottle rockets using bike pumps for air pressure and they went very high. We used Bunsen Burners to melt different types of materials such as crisps, aluminium foil, a wooden splint and paper and separated the minerals from Martian soil. On Friday 15th, we used protractors to navigate where aliens, camps, landing pads and spaceships would be in space. We also made a dance about space, which we liked the most. We have enjoyed the experience at Thomas’. The subjects we have been learning about are: Mathematics, English, Science, Art and P.E., however, science was our favourite out of all the subjects. In science, we learnt that the hotter the water the faster a vitamin c tablet can melt. In English we have learnt about Shakespeare. We did paintings of a fish in art. It was a 10/10 experience.
