We have donated over 3,000 high quality books Donations have included to our own students, local primary and secondary schools, local theatres and to a charity that will transport the books to Africa for distribution. We believe reading is really important and want to encourage and enable as much reading as possible! National Tuition Programme In March we joined the National Tuition Programme to support our students affected by the school closures. We were able to arrange 45 groups of virtual tuition delivering 15 hours for each student. This programme involved 136 students in English, Science and Maths. Students completed the tuition at home or in school. Over the last 5 months we have had 420 sessions of tuition delivered with over 440 hours completed. This included year 9, 10 and 11 students – with some year 11s continuing the tuition after they left in anticipation of their A- Levels. We have been incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication of our students. We are sure that the hard work will have made a positive impact on their future GCSE grades. Imagine We recently had some year 7 and 8 students published in a poetry book called Imagine. The English department are incredibly proud of our students hard work and creativity! Tottenham Hotspur development centre to launch at Havering Sixth Form The Tottenham Hotspur Football Development Centre has linked up with New City College to launch an academy for students at Havering Sixth Form campus from September. Students studying Sport courses at the college in Wingletye Lane, Hornchurch, will be able to train up to three times a week with Tottenham Hotspur Global Football Development and Academy coaches. They will also get to play competitive matches in local and national league competitions every Wednesday as part of their study programme. The launch of the Tottenham Hotspur Football Development Centre at Havering builds on an already successful partnership between the club and New City College. From September 2021 the Football Development Centre programme will be offered at five NCC campuses across London and Essex – Epping Forest, Redbridge, Hackney, Tower Hamlets and now Havering. Across NCC, around 300 young sports men and women, aged 16 to 19, will be able to join the programme and will benefit from professional training, sports industry preparation and work experience alongside studying for a BTEC qualification in Sport. The Tottenham Hotspur Global Football Development team help students on the course reach their full potential by providing authentic coaching methods developed within the club’s academy. As part of the programme, the coaches monitor each player individually, giving them the opportunity to learn and develop their skills so they can play attacking football with the flair, fluidity and passion that are the hallmarks of the club. Reminders: Wear the correct uniform at all times Parents MUST inform the PE department if there are any issues with PE kit.
Reporting Absences Any absence from school due to illness, appointments or any other reason MUST be reported to the Attendance Office by 9.00am at the latest Please either call the Attendance line on: 01708 691441 x 208232 or via ParentMail App or via email jbryan@hornchurchhigh.com Absences should always be followed up by written confirmation from the parent/carer. Your co-operation would be greatly appreciated. There is a clear link between poor attendance at school and lower academic achievement – how can your child learn if they are not here? Attendance is important because your child will not make progress if they do not attend school. If your child receives an attendance figure of 90% every year of their school life, they would miss over a whole year of their schooling. We need your help to raise whole school attendance. Any students who arrive late to school or lessons will be issued with a red Late Slip and MUST attend a Late Detention for 30 minutes after school on the SAME day.

Staff Blurb Name: Ms T Amoa-Sakyi Job Title: Food Technology Teacher Where were you born? I was born on the beautiful, tropical island of Jamaica. What is your favourite thing to do in your spare time? During my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family. We sometimes play games, prepare meals together or watch movies. In addition, I like to experiment in the kitchen and try new recipes. I find it very relaxing and inspirational, to try recipes from other countries. This gives me the opportunity to explore a variety of ingredients from around the world. What is the best book you’ve ever read? The best book I have ever read is A basket of Flowers. I read this book as a teenager. It speaks of faith, redemption and forgiveness. It touched my heart and has stayed with me ever since. What is your favourite film? My favourite film is Amistad. It speaks about the history, racism and slavery of black people. Because I am deeply connected to my roots, this film speaks to me. What made you want to teach? Originally I did not set out to be a teacher. I have always been interested in the Hospitality and Catering Industry. When I started my training for Hospitality, I realised that I liked teaching. I liked the idea of moulding young minds and being a role model for young people. I enjoy sharing information, that contributes to learning. I find it very fulfilling. A word you dislike? I dislike the phrase “ I'm bored”. I think sometimes we tend not to use the opportunities that we have to engage our minds. Sometimes children want us, as adults, to think for them and find solutions.
