Principal’s Welcome Thank you for considering Maitland Lutheran School for the care of you child. Our school prides itself on being welcom- ing to all our community and on promoting Christian and family values. We understand the well being and developments of any child hinges on them being supported in an environment that is safe and secure. As with our school this is a key aim for the environment we aim to provide in our OSHC. We believe strongly in the pivotal role that the staff and parent relationship has on the progress and well being of children. We will strive to foster positive and supportive partnerships with all of our families. We want all students in our OSHC to feel a sense of connectedness and belonging. As principal, and on behalf of our staff, please be assured of our commitment to your child and your family. We will constantly strive to be visible, present and available to our parents and students as we endeavour to provide quality out of hours care that supports those in our community who wish to access it. Philosophy At Maitland Lutheran School OSHC (MLS OSHC), our team is committed to providing all children with high quality care which is inclusive and safe. We ensure all children feel valued as we provide a learning environment that fosters the community and the church, acknowledging the importance of all children’s families, beliefs and values. We believe children’s wellbeing is developed and supported when they feel safe, valued and respected. In acknowledgment to this we: Provide an environment that is physically, socially and emotionally safe. Provide a welcoming and supportive environment that reflects children identities abilities and/or disabilities. Acknowledge appropriate behavior, outlining acceptable behaviour – evident in behaviour management and safety routines. Continue staff Professional Development to ensure best practices are applied. We believe students’ engagement in play is paramount to their development. In acknowledgment to this we: Provide an environment that fosters students’ creativity and imagination. Provide materials, resources and equipment that are flexible enabling children to initiate play. Provide opportunities for autonomy, small group and whole group interactions. Service Aim and Beliefs We believe positive and supportive relationships between staff and parents/caregivers is critical in aiding children’s development. In acknowledgment to this we: Regularly hold conversations with parents / caregivers (formal and informal) to discuss learning development. Provide parents/ caregivers with the opportunity to attend regular meetings. Provide regular communication in our fortnightly newsletter. Display children's learning in their individual portfolios, enabling learning and development to be seen. We support the schools Christ centered learning approach of ‘Enriching Education and Embracing Community’. Food and Drinks Healthy eating is encouraged at MLS OSHC, therefore, please limit the amount of unhealthy snacks in your child’s lunchbox. We would also encourage your child to bring their own water bottle which they will be able to refill during their session. Our service provides breakfast and afternoon tea, which will consist of a variety of healthy meals and snacks abiding by the eating guidelines, as provided in your information pack. Our menu will be displayed on our parent information board. * Please note we are a nut free service * Illness We encourage regular hand washing to minimize the transfer of germs. If your child is unwell, we advise that you keep them home to prevent the spread of illness. For various illnesses and infections there is an exclusion period. A list of notifiable diseases is included in the handbook. During the exclusion period, your child will be unable to attend the OSHC service. Please inform us if your child has an illnesses or infection , so the we can keep families informed of symptoms to be aware of. Medication Children are not permitted to carry any medication in their bags or pockets. Children requiring to take medication including Panadol during OSHC hours are required to have a Medical Authority Form completed by your doctor. Medication must be handed to the OSHC staff in its original container with the prescription label from the pharmacy. Children with particular medical conditions such as allergies, diabetes, asthma etc, are required to also complete an Individual First Aid Plan signed by your doctor. If your child requires medication, it MUST be clearly labeled with instructions on how to administer. Forms are available from the OSHC staff. Environment Our service is based in the School Gym and we have access to other areas within the school grounds to expand our activities and experiences. Page 6
Parent Committee It is a requirement of the Education Standards Board that an OSHC advisor committee is formed. The OSHC Advisory Committee is responsible for: Supporting the School Governing Council, Principal and OSHC Coordinator to ensure the quality of care being offered is in keeping with the values, principles and policies of the school, council, community and the department. Ensuring that children, families and staff have a voice in the management of the OSHC service. Supporting the OSHC Coordinator and staff on a day-to-day basis. Making recommendations to the School Governing Council for its endorsement. National Quality Framework (NQF) The NQF introduced a new quality standard in 2012 to improve education and care across long day care, family day care, preschool/kindergarten, and outside school hours care services. Services are assessed against the 7 quality areas of the National Quality Standard. The NQF is the framework followed by all childcare providers. This outlines the outcomes and standards that need to be met. Sustainability Our service encourages sustainability practices in the form of recycling. We encourage our families to pack their children’s lunches and snacks in reusable containers. We also encourage families to share with our making corner any boxes or containers that can get another lease on life. * Please ensure containers have not been in contact with nuts or have previously contained nuts, as we are a NUT FREE service* Page 7
Infections & Communicable Diseases If your child has any symptoms, we ask you to please keep your child at home and abide by the exclusion periods. Students who are ill with norovirus or suspected gastroenteritis should be excluded from school for a Gastroenteritis minimum of 24 hours after diarrhoea or vomiting stops. Page 8
Enrolment Students attending Maitland Lutheran School are eligible to enrol for MLS OSHC. Younger siblings of MLS students who are enrolled/attending kindergar- ten are also eligible to enrol. The enrolment process MUST be followed and completed before any child can attend the service. A form may be collected from the OSHC room or the school front office. It is the families responsibility to complete the CCS application online with Centrelink to ensure they receive the rebate. Additionally, families with children with allergies or asthma MUST have an Individual First Aid Plan and medication for the service before attending. Bookings Bookings are to be made by contacting the OSHC service via phone 0460 010 107 or email oshc@mls.sa.edu. There are two types of bookings available; Permanent and Casual. Fees vary for these options which are listed on page 11. Cancellations of bookings may incur a fee. Children’s regular term bookings do not automatically book children into vacation care. Please ensure that if you require care for your children during the holidays, that you contact us for information. Cancellation of permanent bookings will require 14 days notice. Session Times Before School care (7.30 am -8.30am) Breakfast is provided and is available until 8.15am After School Care (2.50pm -6.00pm) Afternoon Tea is provided Vacation Care (7.30 am – 6.00pm) Breakfast and Afternoon tea is provided. Late Collection If your child is collected after 6.00pm, charges will apply and increase for every 5 minutes over the 6.00pm cut off time. The charges will be added to your next bill and must be paid before your child attends the service next. Proof of payment will be required. School Term Dates 2021 Term 1: 1 February 2021 — 9 April 2021 Term 2: 27 April 2021— 25 June 2021 Term 3: 19 July 2021—24 September 2021 Term 4: 11 October 2021—8 December 2021 Vacation Care Dates 2021 12 April 2021—23 April 2021 28 June 2021—16 July 2021 27 September 2021 - 8 October 2021 9 December 2021—17 December 2021 Please note Vacation Care will be closed from 20 December 2021 until 10 January 2022 over the Christmas and New Year period. Policies We have a comprehensive list of policies and procedures in place to ensure the safety and care of your child/ren and are available upon request. Lost Property All lost property is kept in the school front office. At the end of each term if items are not collected they will be discarded or donated. Page 10

CCS - Child Care Subsidy “The Child Care Subsidy that commenced on the 2nd of July 2018 replaced the Child Care Benefit (CCB) and Child Care Rebate (CCR). The Child Care Subsidy is paid directly to service providers and is passed on to families as a fee reduction. Families make a co-contribution to their child care fees and pay to the provider the difference between the fee charged and the subsidy amount. For more information visit: https://www.education.gov.au/child-care-subsidy-0 . It is the families’ responsibility to ensure their information is current so that benefits are received. Please note if your child/ren’s immunisation is not current this may affect your CCS subsidy. Payment of Fees Payment of fees are required to be paid to Maitland Lutheran School OSHC fortnightly via direct payment. NO CASH will be accepted. Our bank details will be provided on your invoice and are also listed below for your reference.
