~A Message from our Camp Director~ Dear Parent/Leader, On behalf of the Winter Blast staff and North Florida Council I would like to thank you for choosing Camp Shands for your winter camp. Our goal is to provide a safe and exciting event that your Scouts will remember for years to come. Winter Blast is a mesh between a traditional week of summer camp and an extended merit badge fair. A merit badge blizzard if you will! Our program staff has worked tirelessly to provide a unique experience with tons of merit badges and glaciers of fun. In this ever-changing environment, you can rest assured that our number one priority is the health and safety of all Scouts, Scouters, and visitors. Our highly trained health staff, in conjunction with BSA National Camp Standards and the North Florida Council’s Enterprise Risk Management Team, will “Be Prepared” for anything that comes our way. All areas of camp will be cleaned and sanitized periodically during the day. Hand sanitizer will be readily available throughout camp. The one consistency of the year “2020” is inconsistency. With that being said, the Winter Blast staff is prepped and ready to provide an outstanding camp regardless of the challenges that lay ahead. We ask that you are prepared for these challenges as well. This leader’s guide has been written months before the camp will take place. Change is always inevitable, and the likelihood that some items in this guide will need to be altered by the time our first merit badge classes begin is a realistic possibility. Rest assured that we are dedicated to providing the best camp possible and any necessary changes are made with you and your scouters safety in mind. I look forward to seeing you all this winter! Be Cool! Danny Knight Camp Director 2020 Camp Shands Winter-Blast 2 Register for Winter Blast at Campshands.org under the registration tab.
