MARCH 27, 2022 Fourth Sunday In Lent First United Presbyterian Church Houston, PA 15342 724-746-3040 houstonpresbyterian.org “I know not the way He leads me, but well do I know my Guide.” ― Henrietta C. Mears “Which One Are You?” PASTOR—BEN LIBERT
First United Presbyterian Church 102 North Main Street, Houston, PA 15342 724-746-3040 MARCH 27, 2022 “We will share the love of our Lord, building on our past, reaching in faith toward our future.” GATHERING AROUND THE WORD Welcome & Announcements Minute for Mission-“Making Progress Through Our Connections” (Karen Jones) Meditation Music: “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross” Arr.– Johnson (Jim Hanna - Bass Clarinet) Call to Worship L: Lent calls us to journey, this and every day, P: following Jesus wherever he leads us. L: Lent calls us to journey: P: to the place where God covenants with us, L: Lent calls us to worship together, P: to tell future generations the good news. L: Lent calls us to practice patience, P: to wait for the day of the Lord. L: Lent calls each of us to take up our cross, P: to trust the One who bore it for us. L: Lent calls us to trust God. P: Let us worship God, who leads us, this and every day. *Hymn: #216 - “Beneath the Cross of Jesus” Call to Confession How often are we like James and John, the sons of Zebedee, seeking glory, riches, and places of honor. We would much rather be served than to be servants for others. We need to confess our failures to God and beg forgiveness. Let us confess our sin together using the unison prayer of confession.
Prayer of Confession Great God who beckons us to move beyond where we are, we confess that we are afraid. You who called Abraham to journey to an unknown place call us to venture in unknown ways. Yet we turn away from your call because it is an inconvenience or we are unsure of where it you call us. We do not truly trust you to lead us. You promise us new life in you and yet we are not firm in our conviction that you are our living God. We have not trusted you enough. We have been fearful of changes you call us to make. Forgive us our lack of faith and give us courage to share the Gospel message of Jesus Christ. Silent Confession) In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen. Assurance of Pardon Jesus says, “the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.” Thanks be to God for the crucifixion, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ. My friends, believe the Good News of the Gospel: P: In Jesus Christ we are all forgiven. Amen! *Gloria Patri . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 581 *Passing the Peace of Christ L: The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
