Chairman’s Message I begin this message by thanking you all for your patience and support during these difficult and unprecedented times and I hope that you and your families are safe and well. The Coronavirus, and in turn Government restrictions, have severely impacted on the number of Events that we could hold, with only 7 out of 33 planned taking place during 2020. I would like to thank those Marshals who put in a lot of effort and hard work to ensure that their Events were Covid secure. However, at the time of writing this message we still have a number of Events for 2021 without Marshals. It is hoped that in 2021 our caravans/motor homes will do more miles than our wheelie bins have done this year! As we prepare for 2021, we cannot predict what the situation will be like and if we will still have to run Events with Covid 19 restrictions in place. In the absence of an Event Secretary, my sincere thanks to Paula, who with help from the Committee have managed to put together a full programme of Events. This year saw the introduction of our new website with online booking and payment system. Tony, assisted by Claire are to be thanked and congratulated for their hard work, for what is an extremely useful tool for this Centre. One of the Events that managed to go ahead this year was our 35th Birthday Celebrations. During the weekend a sponsored walk was undertaken, and 5 West Dorset members performed their version of the ‘Full Monty’. We raised £1,460 in aid of the Chairman’s Charity. To those Committee members that have decided not to stand for re-election, I thank you for your support and efforts during your time on the Committee. I welcome the nominations for 2021 of Luke and Laura Harris and hope that they bring fresh ideas to the table. Looking ahead, there will be Officer and Committee positions available for 2022. A growing number of Centre’s are going into hibernation due to being unable to fill posts on their Committees. Let us hope that the West Dorset Centre does not find itself in this unfortunate position. Finally, please take care of yourselves and stay safe. EVENT INFORMATION 1. The event fees for 2021 will be admin £1.25 plus VAT and a minimum of £1.00 event fee plus VAT (As agreed at the 2017 AGM) 2. There will be a charge for event plaques 3. Unless otherwise stated, events will commence at 12 noon on Fridays and extend to Sunday pm 4. A deposit of £2.00 must be included with booking slips and is non refundable. Alternatively you can book and pay online via the West Dorset website This amount will be deducted from the cost of the event. To simplify methods of payment for deposits, £2.00 vouchers are available from Centre Officer’s and Committee. If you wish to pay your deposit with a cheque, the minimum value is £5.00, £2.00 of this is non refundable 5. Cheques must be made payable to: ‘CAMC – West Dorset Centre’ and not to individuals 6. Please ring the event marshal to ensure there are spaces available and address for booking slips to be sent to, before sending a booking slip and deposit 7. When booking tickets for social events, please remember children aged 15 years and over are classed as adults 8. Members booking onto an event, particularly if a meal is included, will be held liable for expenses incurred on their behalf if they fail to attend 9. Always carry levelling blocks as they may be required, also ensure you have enough calor gas. PLEASE NOTE: Blue calor gas freezes in Winter but red does not 10. Site direction signs used by the West Dorset Centre are as follows: orange background with black pointer marked W/D 11. Do not arrive at the event site before the time stated in the event book. If you arrive early please be prepared to wait outside 12. Holiday events – Please check with the event marshals for length of stay available PLEASE NOTE: Events held on commercial sites may attract full payment before the event commences. This is not a West Dorset Centre rule, we are governed by the site owners and the contract we have entered into with them. Most commercial sites require the final numbers at least 10 days prior to the start date of the event. After this time should you cancel, the site will expect full payment from the Centre. You are therefore liable for this payment. If you have not made a payment before the event and the Centre has to pay for a pitch because you have cancelled, the Treasurer will send you an invoice for the amount. Event marshals will always try to avoid paying site fees for cancellations by talking to the site owners to see if the charges can be waivered. HAVE YOU BEEN ON AN EVENT YET? YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT IT IS? It is simply a gathering of Caravan and Motorhome Club members, for a weekend or holiday, to promote friendship, pursue many pleasures and pastimes in a light hearted manner, and have some fun along the way. You should never feel obliged to join in anything which does not interest you. The event marshal is an ordinary member who volunteers to organise and run the event. This usually includes arranging the event with the land owner, signing the approach to the event field and making sure there is a fresh water supply, facilities for the disposal of waste water, toilet emptying and containers for the disposal of general rubbish. Event marshals may arrange a social on a Saturday evening, which is family orientated. It may include games for the children or dancing for all ages and during the summer, perhaps a BBQ on the field. The event usually starts at noon unless stated otherwise; this is to allow the event marshals sufficient time to prepare for the event, so please do not arrive before this time. On arrival at the field please stop at the event office, where you will be given an envelope containing the event programme and simple advice on local amenities, restrictions and arrangements for waste water etc. Towards the end of the event Centre News Update will be held for people to gather together to welcome any visitors and new members, announce forthcoming events, hear the results of any competitions and extend thanks to those who have run the event. All you need in addition to items you would normally expect to take on a commercial site, are your own toilet with a water container to fill it (toilets must never be taken to the drinking water tap as this is a serious health hazard), a waste bin for dry waste and simple wooden wedges and blocks which may be required for sloping fields. The field is marked out to ensure there is ample spacing between caravans and a pleasing appearance. it is intended that the front offside corner of the caravan is on the marker and the owner’s car is parked along the offside. PLEASE NOTE: The speed limit on the event field is 5MPH Photographs may be taken to publicise media images of events to all members of the Caravan and Motorhome Club and the public, via the internet and publications. The site is within ¾ mile of the world famous village of Corfe with its Castle, and a short drive or bus ride to either Wareham or Swanage. The West Dorset Centre is excited to announce this new event for 2021 at one of Dorset’s most popular campsites in the amazing Purbeck area. New for 2021 and aimed at anyone who wants to have fun and a laugh. The West Dorset Centre are putting on a family weekend at the popular Norden Farm campsite. If you have never been to the campsite, or indeed the area, then you are in for a treat. The agenda for the weekend is family orientated, with activities to keep all ages entertained, whilst still allowing you time to explore the farm and the surrounding area. RALLY No: 26 DORSET COUNTY SHOW 03 – 06 September 2021 West Dorset Centre Invitation Post Code: DT2 7SD Event Commences: 12 Noon Directions: The Showground at Cokers Frome, Dorchester is situated on the B3143 Dorchester to Piddlehinton road and will be signposted from all directions. Continue past the main show entrance and turn left at the first cross roads signposted, Frome Whitfield. The camping field is approximately ½ mile on the left, adjoining the showground, look for and follow the West Dorset (W/D) signs. The Show is a two day event of non stop main ring attractions including show jumping, carriage driving and sheep dogs. Other rural community activities are on display outside the main arena, including a permanent lake for angling and gun dog demonstrations. There are also over 350 different trade stands selling everything from wellies to windows and tractors to truffles! There is a food hall with live demonstrations and marquees with flowers, prize winning vegetables and arts and craft. All members attending the event must arrive on Friday because of the congestion on Show days, when a one way traffic system will be in operation. Our event will continue until Monday 12 Noon for members wishing to stay over Sunday night. Bagwell is a mile past Chickerell on the left at the top of the hill after the Victoria Inn. Bagwell Farm is at the heart of one of Britain’s most beautiful landscapes. As required by rule 6 (c) governing Centres, nominations for Officers or Committee signed by the nominee, must be in writing and in possession of the Centre Secretary by 2.30pm on Saturday 19 September 2020, fourteen days prior to the meeting. Formal notice of motions, duly signed by the proposer and seconder, must be received in writing by the Centre Secretary not later than 35 days prior to the meeting. After the roads converge take 1st exit at the roundabout onto the A3094. Continue on this road for approx: 2.5 miles, at the sharp bend, turn left and follow the brown signs for Salisbury racecourse. After approx: 1.2 miles turn left into Old Shaftesbury Drove. Site is on the right in approx: 0.3 miles. From West: On A303 head towards Salisbury on A36. Situated on a landscaped level site, the park offers stunning views across Wiltshire with an array of trees, shrubs and floral displays. Salisbury with its cathedral and shops are only 4 miles away or Wilton House and Outlet shopping centre even closer. A little further afield are the famous stones at Stonehenge.
