Overview • Title I is the largest federally funded program for schools. • It provides funding for high poverty schools to help students who are behind academically or who are at risk of falling behind in our State’s academic content and performance standards. • Schools qualify for Title I funds based on economic needs (free and reduced lunch). • The Title I program supports a variety of services based on school need including but not limited to: additional teachers, instructional materials, technology, additional training for staff, parental involvement program support, etc.
Parents’ Right to Know: In accordance with ESSA, Section 112(c)(6) PARENTS RIGHT-TO-KNOW, every parent of a student in a Title I school has the right and may request information regarding the professional qualifications of your child’s classroom teachers including, at a minimum, the following: • The baccalaureate degree major of the teacher and any other graduate certification or degree held by the teacher, and the field of discipline of the certification or degree. • Whether the teacher has met State qualifications and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction.
• Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which State qualification or licensing criteria have been waived. • Whether the child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.
Our Parent Involvement Plan includes… • Annual Title I meeting for parents and/or information shared. • Parent Academy Nights (Face to Face or Virtual) • At least one official parent teacher conference and any others requested by teachers and/or parents. • Ongoing parent communication (Wednesday folders/emails/phone calls/Connect Ed Calls/Class DoJo) • School-parent compact outlining the shared responsibility of student learning. • Exit Ticket/Surveys concerning parent involvement activities. • Send suggestions to sharon.huneycutt@wilsonschoolsnc.net
Wells Elementary Parent Compact • Promise to work together towards achieving our common goal during face to face, remote and virtual instruction. • Students: • Come to school every day and on time. • Complete all classroom and homework assignments • Reading 20 minutes every night at home • Follow our 4 PBIS rules: Leaders are respectful, responsible, prepared learners. • Parents/Guardians: • Make sure your child comes to school every day and on time. • Provide a home environment that encourages your child to complete their assignments and read every night. • Encourage your child to follow our 4 PBIS rules. • Actively participate in the parent meetings and parent education programs. • Work closely with and communicate with teachers to ensure your child is successful at school.
Wells Elementary Parent Compact • Teachers: • Come to class well planned and well prepared. • Provide a learning environment that includes enjoyable, engaging, rigorous and relevant activities for every student. • Use data to plan activities that lead to student academic growth and success. • Remind students of the 4 PBIS rules. • Maintain clear, consistent communication between school and home through student progress reports, report cards, Class DoJo, parent conferences, etc.

Website: NC School Report Card Note on missing data: On March 23, 2020, the U.S. Department of Education approved North Carolina's request to waive spring statewide assessments, accountability ratings, and certain reporting requirements in the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) for the 2019-2020 school year due to widespread school closures related to the novel Coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
