First Steps at the University During the first week of your study there are some organizational things to do. Here is a brief overview: HFU-ACCOUNT When you are matriculated, you will receive your HFU e-mail address and the correspon- ding access data. It is important that you check this address regularly: The university will only send important mails about your exams and studies to this address! HFU-CARD You will receive your HFU card when you are matriculated. It is the electronic means of payment at HFU and serves as identification. It contains your photo, your name, and your matriculation number. You should update your HFU- Card at the beginning of each se- mester (the device for this purpose is in front of the cafeteria in the A-Building). You can also use the HFU Card as a means of payment in the magazine, in the cafeteria and in the Mensa. You will find recharging machines in the cafeteria and in front of the cafeteria. The HFU-Card is also the access authorization for the parking lot behind the I-Building - if all parking spaces there are not already full. Very important: Bring the HFU-Card to every exam! There you have to indicate your ma- triculation number and, depending on the professor, the HFU-Card will be used to check your attendance during the exam. Schedule On the HFU homepage, under Services, you will find the current lecture schedule your degree program. You can view the current schedule for each week by entering the date: https://stundenplan.hs-furtwangen.de/splan/ Digital / online lectures Due to the current situation, it is not possible to offer all lectures as face-to-face courses. Therefore, we will again offer some lectures in digital form. In the schedule you will find the link to the scheduled lectures. Here you will be guided to your lecture and find the corresponding link to the Online Room. Page 14
First Steps at the University SPO The Study and Examination Regulations contain all information on the structure of the study program, the number of hours, the practical semester, deadlines, examinations and much more. The SPO is divided into a general part, which is valid for the entire university and contains information about basic and main studies, bonus, and malus points, pas- sing and failing. There is also a special section for each individual study program. Here it is explained how the course of studies is structured, which lectures should be attended in which semester and in which lectures exams or papers are written. Page 15
Hints Preparing and following up your lectures After the lecture, go through your script again and mark the most important points. You can already make flashcards and recall them during the exam period. The more time you invest now in a well maintained and compre- hensible script, the more time you will save before the exams. If exercises were calculated in the lecture, calculate them again at home. Make a note of questions for the upcoming lecture. Don‘t be afraid to ask them - the professors are happy about your active participation and your colleagues will also benefit from it. Get together in learn groups and meet regularly to talk about the the topic in the topics and work on exercises together. You control each other‘s learning progress and also have fun in the group. In some lectures the script is not enough. Take it on yourself and find your way to the library to learn more about your subject Page 16
