BASILDON MAYFEST! On Saturday 9th May, The Rotary Club of Basildon Concord and Basildon & Pitsea Carnival Association will be hosting the annual MAYFEST event in Basildon Town Square. This is a local event for charities and community to create awareness and showcase the work of their organisations. Event organiser and Past President, Danny Lovey said, “This is the 4th time we have run this event; the previous ones were in 2016, 17 &18. Each time they have been very successful. It not only showcases the local community organisations, but several local groups provide entertainment as well during the day, which all adds to the fun. Basildon Borough has the need for such an event for local organisations, as it gives local people the opportunity to meet and talk with the various stallholders and maybe join their organisation, or even provide financial backing to a cause that they would like to support. Stallholders we have found, particularly like meeting other organisations during the day and meeting like-minded people.” Local groups and charities are invited to apply for a stall, for which a £10 fee is payable. To register your interest, please email - stuart.mayfest@outlook.com or leave a message on their Facebook page – Basildon Mayfest COMMUNITYINVOLVEMENT@BASILDON.GOV.UK WWW.BASILDON.GOV.UK/COMMUNITYINVOLVEMENT

A BIG THANK YOU! On 19th December 2019, family, friends and officers celebrated the retirement of long standing rep Gina Andrews. Gina has worked alongside Basildon Council as a Sheltered Housing Tenant Representative for over 30 years and has had many achievements during her time. Gina started as the chairperson of the Chalveden and tenants Coordinate Committee, she lived in what was known as Crudens which had many issues such as poor design and crime. Through tireless campaigning she helped to shape the regeneration, the first major refurbishment work in Essex. Work commenced in1993 and took four years to complete and is now known as the Castles estate. Gina continued campaigning for the good of others and in 2004 her work was acknowledged in an article in the Housing News about her life as a tenant rep where she stated that life is never dull and it gave her the opportunity to speak up not only for herself but always with others in mind. Gina should be very proud of the significant changes she has helped to make, and for the positive impact and benefit for all residents. We would all like to thank Gina for her outstanding service that she has given to the community by carrying out the role with respect and dignity COMMUNITYINVOLVEMENT@BASILDON.GOV.UK WWW.BASILDON.GOV.UK/COMMUNITYINVOLVEMENT

The Radford Park Resident Association Community Fundraising The Radford Park Residents Association and local residents in Laindon recently raised over £1,000 to support local community projects and good causes that help build community cohesion that bring people together, reducing social isolation and loneliness. The local community came together to raise over £500 towards our Community Notice Board which was installed by resident volunteers in December. The highlight of the year was residents coming together to participate at the annual sponsored Fun Walk at Barleylands. During the annual Christmas Carol Service and Christmas Tree light switch- on, residents came together on the green with the Basildon Choral Society to raise over £500 towards the Mayor of Basildon’s Charity of the year – “The Jo Cox Foundation - More in Common Basildon”, working hard to reduce social isolation and loneliness in our local communities.
