Developing their characters It is important we develop the children’s characters through the curriculum we teach. We will be ensuring that each subject is taught with a development of character at the foundation. Here are some of the character's we will be developing. • Independence • Positive attitude to learning • Adaptation to different situations • Good communication • Sense of pride • Resilience • Taking responsibility

Writing • Capital letters and full stops Texts: • George’s Marvellous Medicine • Range of sentence styles - question, exclamation, • Where the Poppies Now Grow command • Traditional tales • Expanded noun phrases – beautiful, blue butterfly • Extending sentences with conjunctions • Common exception words Children will be encouraged to use their own ideas. Reading widely - imagination, new vocabulary and a knowledge of sentence structure.
Reading • Whole class reading and guided reading • Individual reading book which will be changed three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday). • Please read every night with your child and remember to sign their reading record when they have finished their book. • Ask questions about what they have read. • Children are expected to read aloud with fluency, pace and expression. Handwriting Focus • Continue to develop continuous cursive handwriting • Focus on lowercase and capital letters • Show clear ascenders and descenders • Introduce the different letter joins • Encourage children to join when they are ready www.teachhandwriting.com – show exercises to develop fine motor skills and correct letter formation clips
Maths • Counting and number sequences to 100. • Place value of any 2-digit number • + - x ÷ • Times tables- 10, 5 and 2 times tables • Fractions – ½, ¼, ¾ • Measuring in centimetres, metres, grams and kilograms. • Telling the time – o'clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past. • 2D and 3D shapes • Handling data
Deepening understanding • Reasoning and problem solving • Applying their knowledge and strategies • Explaining how they have calculated an answer • Explaining why an answer is correct or incorrect and how they know that

Homework • Build on and consolidate any classroom learning – handed out Friday, due in following the Wednesday. • Make sure that you support your child to complete their homework to a high standard. • Weekly spelling test • Reading and arithmetic • Family days out, discovery and building relationships are also of great value.
White Equipment and uniform shirt or t-shirt All items should be named clearly • An adult shirt to be used as a painting Navy overall; skirt, • A Launde book bag trousers • A pair of indoor shoes (plimsolls or or shorts other); • Uniform – please ensure your child conforms to the schools rules and is free from makeup, jewellery and hair accessories. All hair if it is long enough, should be tied up and outdoor shoes plimsolls should be sensible and plain black.
PE kit In addition to this the children Red t-shirt will need to have their P.E. kit available throughout the week; this needs to include… Red shorts or • Red T/polo shirt and shorts; joggers • Red joggers, sweat shirt; • Trainers (not school shoes) • Sports socks. Over the holidays you could… • Visit the Oadby library and take part in the Reading Challenge • Read with your child from a variety of sources (e.g. comics, newspapers, fiction, non-fiction, poems, etc.) • Complete the fun maths activities to practise numbers bonds to 10 and 20; 10, 5 and 2 times tables. • Physical outdoor challenges - Develop your child’s general knowledge by providing opportunities to try something new • Write and send a postcard • Remember to relax and have a good rest!
