Welcome > Notices > Diary Dates Week Commencing 14 June 2021 Weekly Bulletin for Families Message from the Head of School ‘Every new experience brings its own maturity and a greater clarity of vision.’ Indira Gandhi - Prime Minister of India 1966 - 1977 The first week of June has been a week full of new challenges and adventure for many students at SET Ixworth School. Monday 7 June saw the launch of GCSE option subjects for Year 9 as they embarked on their personalised GCSE journeys. Students have made an excellent start to their courses, rising to the Mrs P Parker challenge with confidence. Head of School On Thursday 10 and Friday 11 June, our Year 10 Duke of Edinburgh Award group set out on the first two of their four days of expedition planned for this half of term. In groups, students navigated routes between Rede and Hoggards Green on day one and Haughley to Bacton on day two, whilst carrying their rucksacks with kit including waterproofs, shoes, sleeping bags, roll mats, clothing and camping crockery. The students demonstrated impressive teamwork skills and resilience, working co-operatively and with great commitment. Well done to all of those who took part and a big ‘Thank you’ to the team of staff who made the expedition possible: Mr Langford, Mrs Stroud, Mrs Bass and Mrs Campbell and in particular to Mr Spurin for his extensive preparation work for the trips and delivery of the Duke of Edinburgh Award as part of our Enrichment programme. This week Year 10 students have also had the opportunity to engage in new experiences of a completely different kind as the interview process began for our 2021/ 22 Student Leadership team. Overseen by Mr Jackson, students had already been busy preparing their letters of application; interviews and presentations will be continuing to run in the coming weeks and we look forward to introducing the team for the academic year ahead prior to the summer break. One of the first sample roles of leadership for our Year 10 students has been in supporting Year 7 in their transition to lessons all around the school site in subject specialist rooms. The school has been re-energised by the students’ movement and the joy students have found in working in rooms such as our Science Labs, Drama Studio, Music, Art and DT rooms has been tangible. For Year 7 this has been an entirely new experience, and for those students in Year 8 the classrooms outside of their year group bubble had become a distant memory not having had the opportunity to move around the school since March of last year. Our final focus for the week on new experiences and adventure is a celebration. We are delighted to congratulate our Year 9 MFL French Pop Video group on their outstanding
achievement as: Vainqueurs régionaux - Angleterre Est (Regional winners for the East of England) with their entry ‘Au revoir confinement’. Each winning regional entry receives an £80 National Book Token and qualifies to compete for the national final where a jury will determine the best videos in the three age-categories UK-wide. The national winners will be announced on the 23 June at the Institut Français du Royaume-Uni. Our congratulations to Mrs Kelly and all the students involved! Please note the change in date for our Sports Day 2021, with a move from Tuesday 15 June ( as published) to Thursday 1 July. Our apologies for the late notice, the date change has been made to ensure that, following lockdown, students have the maximum amount of preparation time possible for all events and to use Sports Day as a transition to the final Enrichment days for this academic year. SET Ixworth Angels are walking for a good cause! A group of colleagues from SET Ixworth School are taking part in the St Nicholas Hospice Girls Night Out on 11 September, an 11.2 mile evening walk around Bury St Edmunds. The hospice is an amazing charity offering so much support to local families and now more than ever, following the pandemic, they need all the help they can get.
