Rising dance stars in Byford By Jennifer Dinsdale It’s a typical Tuesday afternoon and the RISE Dance Studio in Byford is literally buzzing with excitement. Students of all ages, abilities and backgrounds are in attendance to this afternoon’s Jazz Tap class. Studio owner Aimee McCormick and instructor Miss Britt welcome students warmly into the studio before beginning class with a series of stretches for flexibility, strength, and balance. A past student of WAAPA with over 20 years of dancing experience, Miss Aimee and her carefully crafted team of instructors are able to provide a safe and trusting environment for students, where everyone is guided through skills and techniques at their ability level; whether they are a well seasoned dancer or someone who has never set foot on a stage before. When asked about her favourite part of opening her own dance studio: “My students! There is nothing more rewarding than hearing about their days, watching them grow and seeing the love we all share for dance. I have taught students who began at 10 and are now 18. It’s such a special feeling!”. RISE Dance Studio opened its doors just a week after the Perth & Southwest snap lockdown, completing their first term at the end of March. There are currently 29 classes run each week for aspiring dancers aged 2, to adults in Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Pointe, Acrobatics, Lyrical and Hip Hop styles. RISE also holds morning adult fitness class for those who want to get fit the fun way! Recently they have just enrolled their 200th student- an incredible feat to achieve in such a short amount of time, and a testament to the family-oriented vibe that RISE Studio is quickly becoming well known for! Congratulations Aimee and the team at RISE Dance Studio! After this conference, I personally felt more confident and prepared for the future, and aware of the sorts of things I should look out for in the future. Everyone also learnt that sometimes we need to make sacrifices- if we pile too much stuff onto one another, then it can become stressful, which could possibly negatively affect the future of young people. In the end, the conference was worth going to and I personally believe that all schools should participate in this program, as it will not only help the students’ confidence and improve their rate of success, but it will also help teachers to be able to prepare their students better for life after school. Earth’s Crystals and their magical powers By Cassandra Hobb From an early age, I was exposed to new age therapies; a child with persistent eczema and asthma, my mum searched tirelessly for alternative remedies to assist with my autoimmune disease.
