First United Presbyterian Church 102 North Main Street, Houston, PA 15342 724-746-3040 February 13, 2022 - “We will share the love of our Lord, building on our past, reaching in faith toward our future.” GATHERING AROUND THE WORD Welcome & Announcements Meditation Music: “It is well” . . . . . . . . . . . Arr. – Kristen Dimarco (Solo: Terri Jeffers) Call to Worship L: Love is patient; P: Love is kind; L: Love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. P: Love does not insist on its own way; L: Love is not irritable or resentful; P: Love does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. L: Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. P: Love never ends L: And now these three remain, faith, hope, and love. P: And the greatest of these is love. L: Let us worship the God who is love. *Hymn: #475 - “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing” Call to Confession L: Dietrich Bonhoeffer writes in Life Together “he who is alone with his sin is utterly alone…But it is the grace of the gospel, which is so hard for the pious to understand, that confronts us with the truth and says: You are a sinner, a great, desperate sinner; now come as the sinner you are, to the God who loves you.” Let us trust in God’s love as we confess our sin together. Prayer of Confession L: Holy God, the Apostle Paul teaches us that love is patient and kind.
P: We confess the times that we have been hasty and mean to others. (Silent Confession) L: Your scriptures teach us that love is not envious, boastful, arrogant, or rude. P: We confess that we have so often been selfish and prideful. (Silent Confession) L: The Bible reminds us that love does not demand its own way, nor is it irritable or resentful. P: Holy God forgive us that we are so often full of our own desires and angry when we don’t get what we want right when we want it. (Silent Confession) L: Remind us that love never ends, P: because you, O God, are the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen. Assurance of Pardon L: Hear these words from 1 John 4: “God is love. God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.” My friends, believe the good news of the Gospel, P: In Jesus Christ we are all forgiven. Amen! *Gloria Patri . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 581 *Passing the Peace of Christ L: The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
