ST MELLITUS NEWS 26th March 2021 Don’t forget that the clocks go forward by one hour this Sunday! Dear friends, this Sunday we celebrate Palm Sunday which begins Holy Week- a special week for followers of Jesus as we enter into the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection to remember and celebrate all that He has done for us. As such, I’d encourage you to take time to stop and reflect this week. Perhaps re- read the story of Jesus’ last days, join in with our 24 hours of prayer (more details of how to do this are below) or come to some of the service or events we’re holding both in-person or online. This week we identify with the pain, suffering and desolation of Jesus, and yet the week ends with the joy and hope of Easter Sunday-the promise that after death comes resurrection. Given all that’s happened over the past year, this Easter promises to be extremely powerful and poignant for us all. On that note I’m pleased to say that from this Sunday we are reopening the church doors and able to gather in-person again. This service will be at 10am and there’s room for as many of the church family who feel they want to come at this stage. We aren’t able to other children’s groups yet, but there will be a family slot in the service, and we will be providing activity sheets for children. There’s no need to book, but you will of course be familiar with all the usual measures we have to take to keep one another safe. Alongside this, one other change this week is that we will live streaming our 10am Sunday service rather than creating the pre-recorded service you may have become used to. As we do this, we ask that you bear with us-there may be some teething problems (!), but as we’ve continually sought to do over the past year, we will learn from them and together work to make everyone’s experience of worship as good as it can in the circumstances. So, friends, as we go into this special week may you know the presence, peace and hope of the Lord Jesus-crucified, yet resurrected, and alive today. This is a wonderful book exploring suffering and the pain of unanswered prayer, with a hard- won message of hope and comfort, and many are finding it particularly helpful in the light of all that happened over the past year. Pete writes: ‘If you are hurting and secretly wondering “Where is God?” and ‘Why’s this happening to me?’ and ‘How come my prayers don’t get answered?’ then I dedicate this book to you.” If you would like a copy, please get in touch with Stu.
