4 WWW WANZL WORLDWIDE No 19 2017 EXPERT TOPIC 5 EXPERT TOPIC wanzl connect® The shopping of tomorrow begins today Wanzl’s Product Manager Markus Pfitzmaier is a man in high demand nowadays. Yet another TV team has just arrived at Wanzl’s Creative Centre, keen to find out more about the smart shopping trolley and everything it can do. Markus’ schedule has been almost fully booked up since Spring – as well as journalists, retail representatives from around the world have been requesting slots to see him too. The reason why he is so in demand is wanzl connect – a fully integrated digital store system where the smart trolley acts as an infor- mation hub. Wanzl showcased its prototype for the first time at the EuroShop trade fair in Düsseldorf, earlier this year and now visitors have the chance to see and test the new store system for themselves at Wanzl’s Creative Centre. “The next consumer revolution in brick-and-mortar food and near-food stores is on the brink of arrival,” says Bernhard Renzhofer, Head of Sales at Wanzl. Competition in the era of digitalisation and online shopping goes by the name of E-Food – a field of business with an incredible amount of poten- tial. For Renzhofer, this means one thing: “We have to start rethinking the way we shop.” Wanzl is capable of doing this; after all, the company was one of the driving forces behind the first consumer revolution 70 years ago. Back then, Europe was just finding its way with self-service shopping and Wanzl played a pioneering role by rolling out the first ever shopping ↑ CREATIVE CENTRE: Here, visitors get a live experience trolley. 6 WWW WANZL WORLDWIDE No 19 2017 EXPERT TOPIC 7 → INVENTORY MONITORING AND ANALYTICS: A wanzl connect shopping trolley is equipped with an RFID tag for its role as the customer’s companion around the store. The trolley not only transports items but also supplies the retailer with key information about shopping routes, usage habits, average shopping times and how long shoppers spend in certain aisles. wanzl connect also includes maintenance recommendations and reports if produce or trolleys have been stolen. Thanks to the smartphone connection, customer-specific information can be gathered, and personalised coupons redeemed instore as a purchase incentive. ↓ TRACKING: wanzl connect and its intelligent RFID shopping trolley starts its journey in the trolley shelter. The system logs each time a trolley is taken and returned. When a trolley is returned, the customer receives a coupon for their next purchase or they can decide to donate the amount instead. ↑↑ APP PAYMENT: wanzl connect also allows shoppers to use self-checkouts with their smartphone and an app. ↑ STORE MANAGER CONTROL CENTRE: This function collects all incoming data on a platform. It is used for the intelligent management of a store – from providing sufficient trolleys in the trolley shelter and checkout staffing that ensures customers do not have to endure long waiting times, to cash register control and monitoring of entrance systems, bakery stations or third party systems such as deposit stations, refrigeration units, etc. The customer also receives push messages to their smartphone about current offers.
